  • Yes spend more money and get better quality, Hikivision which can be purchased via Alibaba is an extremely popular choice for most..

Sure for the same outlay you will only get 2 Cameras but they will be absolutely crystal clear and get good detail at a far distance in comparison to these cheap cameras which really only are useful in daylight and when somebody is within a few meters.

    • too hard from alibaba i think..like the swanna seamless smart phone interface..so might just stick to the same..

only using inside the shop to catch petty thief anyway

      • +3

Aliexpress is pretty good if you check reputations before buying.

      • If its inside a shop then yes these will be fine, they will always be within a few meters of the camera then.

        • basically need real clear image of face, especially those scum with beanies on..

        • @Droid11: People who wear beanies are scum??

        • @pmupsinep: For those minority who always steal from me, yes they are! And don't ask me why, the group seem to always wear beanie..guess it's to cover up the appearance a bit..

        • @Droid11:

Late reply.. But dont buy this Camera then if you want real clear face image.

If theft matters to you buy a proper camera system that will have an amazing range when somebody is within 2-3meters of the camera, such as entrance mounting it with a dome camera.

    • Thanks Anton1o .. I was looking for a good quality camera without spending a fortune (as much as possible anyway).
Would you suggest hikivision is better than Swann as a general all rounder? Or is it a direct comparison with this particular model only

      • +2

Moreso an all rounder, i run 2 Hikivison Cameras to a Mini PC server which just has Recording Software and the quality cannot be beat.
I have a clear view of what is happening at 10+ meters away, Motion detection and generally everything is a world above..

$100 per Camera is not expensive either.. Dont let a cheap camera deal sway you into thinking that is the average price..

    • I can definately recommend the Hikvision camera's….best bang for your buck - I've got 3 installed at our place. I had some cheaper camera's previously but kept having issues with them and the quality of the vision was nowhere near as good as the Hikvisions.

I purchased 'Blue Iris' security software to go with them, allowing me to view the cameras remotely using their phone app.

  • 650 TVL is like Analogue TV not DVD-quality

  • any suggestion from Kogan site?

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/swann-8-channel-3mp-network-vid…

    OR

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/swann-4-channel-3mp-network-vid…

something like these maybe? the recording system any good? Which is better? I heard the NVR8-7200 is good

    • The 873004 - your 1st link has hdmi output which for me is more useful than rca output. It's a good system - esp
      At that price

      • actually they're both same model of NVR…so it's just the cameras that's different

    • What does it mean by network connected? all the other DVR & NVR can be connected via LAN connection no?

Also it's just 1MP. If I'm gonna spend money, might as well get the highest res out there.

      • From my understanding,

DVR uses BNC (Video) + Power cables.

NVR (with POE) uses a single ethernet cable.

Both can be connected via LAN to enable remove viewing.

        • so the camera connected to the NVR via LAN cable? I'm confused here, never had an NVR one..

          @liveyourlife: ahh…that explain it a lot :) NVR it is then .. :)

I have this kit and its my second Swann system the first being a 4 camera DVR 1425. The DVR-3425 is a higher resolution recording as well as an extra 100 lines on the cameras (540 to 640 TVL). Its a huge improvement. The beauty with the Swann is that it really is plug and play. The mobile app is mature and reliable and I love the scan in the bar code off the DVR screen and you have remote access all set up. For those who are looking at home automation Vera/Openhab etc just be aware that the picture "snapshot" feature on IP cameras is not available on this DVR. People have used Blue Iris to capture the jpg but I couldn't see the point. I come from a Blue Iris background with Foscam cameras and as much as I liked it, the stand alone DVR is far more convenient.

There are more burglaries per person in Australia than Vietnam, India or China. You Need This! or something similar.

    • +1

very true…the safety in Australia has very much deteriorated in the last few years..the new neighbourhood in my area had so much break-ins that local police had to organise secret patrol 24/7 to control the burglaries..crazy! Never heard of such things 10 years ago…

  • How much is it at DSE or Swann Store? Really need a set but don't know what to get. Any suggestions within this price range for 6 camera? I don't have $200 for 1 camera.

  • Bought the 3MP 8 channel model with 2gb preinstalled HD for $599. Only good for 5 days recording at default setting though. Will find a way to expand it. Hope i dont regret it.

    • +1

      correction..it's actually 2TB ;)

I bought the 1TB for $499, 8 cameras probably overkill for a small shop of mine

      • Ya 2 TB. 2 gb would be full in minutes. Was thinking the 4 channels model but then need the 5th camera or even 6th so better get the 8 channels one. Budgeted $350 but spent $700… Hope won't regret it. Thanks for sharing the deal.
Btw why is it marked expired? The price and free shipping still available

        • +1

nah mate, Swann although little overpriced is super easy to use and setup…

with this price, you can't go wrong

  • Got the first item of my order yesterday and waiting for the second item. Strange that they ship them separately?

    • Got mine after 2 weeks wait..not very happy as this wasn't been communicated in the first place.

guess they just take money first and order from Swann afterwards..Worked for first Kogan's TV dispatch before, but I hope they learn it's different era now..consumers expect differently now..

      • Have you installed yours and see how the quality is like yet? I am still waiting for the 5th camera I placed in the same order and install them all together.

        • I got the 4x 3MP camera package instead, haven't installed yet…
