Q Acoustics 2020i $259 Free Shipping from Selby Accoustics

210

Wanted to highlight these speakers as I have been looking specifically for a good deal on bookshelf speakers and have been monitoring prices and cross checking for awhile. While other retailers have been having EOFY sales, the 2020i from Selby are genuinely ~$90-100 cheaper than from anywhere else. Everywhere else is going ~$340ish on an inflated RRP of ~$419.

These are excellent speakers (http://www.whathifi.com/q-acoustics/2020i/review). Just to keep in mind, a reason why the value is so good is because the 3020i models have just been released and are going for ~$500.

Note: These are passive speakers and will require amplification.

  • I guess these were included in the previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198168 but good to point out these gems.
Great speakers for the price, can't beat that value. Beware of the size though, these are really deep, check the measurements. 2010i for $189 ain't that bad either…:o) Too bad I have too many speakers already…

  • Any amplifier recommendations that are on sale?

    • I guess the best deals are on speakers, couldn't see any standouts in the amp section.

I've bought marantz gear (2-3 years old) on gumtree for less than a mid-range Yamaha or Sony.

    • Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any amp deals that are equally as good.

    • Go to shopbot.com.au or staticice.com.au and have a look yourself. Don't expect people to do the work for you.

  • The krix atomix at the same price are also excellent value and would be my preferred option due to them being an Aussie company.

    • I'm curious about these speakers - my google-fu is failing me and I can't seem to find any reviews. Can you point me to any?

      • +1

Krix are generally regarded as consistently excellent, they sit in that band where most households would consider them very high end but below the point where price becomes astronomical. Many cinemas worldwide run Krix speakers.

        • I've been meaning to sample some Krix goods for a while, and my surrounds need upgrading. Happy coincidence.

I have a pair of 2020is as fronts and 2010is as rears as part of my home set up. Very impressed with the quality and strength of the sound I get from these bookshelfs for both video and music. They've won a number of awards in the UK. Here's another review:

At this price they are an absolute bargain!

how do these compare to the usher s520s?

  • +2

Is this really a bargain? The company I work for has the Graphite and Walnut 2020i for $255 (and they've been that price ever since I've been here)

The Gloss Black and Gloss White are indeed far more expensive so if the above are those units I'll shut up, yes it is a bargain, otherwise I'm surprised ANYONE is selling these for $340ish - we've never had them up that high.

    • Thanks for the heads up, almost pulled the trigger on the Gloss White, think I'll wait for some cheap Usher S-520 to come up.

Who is your company? I've never seen them cheaper than $360 most places they are $400.

      • My company is a small IT & AV consultancy firm 20 minutes South of Perth. I'm NOT SURE I'm supposed to mention the name on this forum as it would be considered advertising or spam? I will see if I can PM you the name.

I assure you, we DO have them for that price and have had for a while. We DO NOT keep stock as AV is only a smaller part of our business, but the distributor is in Osborne Park and I can literally get them within an hour or so. Any customers who've ordered in the past I've just third party drop shipped to.

As for "Link or it did not happen"…

We are a small IT firm and do not have a dedicated person who has time to keep an on-line web store. We are kept busy by over 120 customers and word of mouth referrals.

Speakers such as these we do not advertise specifically, but they are in our system.

        • I don't think it would be considered spam, you might have to mark it as rep though? Post the deal. I'm in the market.

        • +1

Everywhere else have been selling them at a premium until recently.

Your company doesn't keep it in stock, doesn't have a website, and seems to serve only select clients (as AV is a tiny part of the business) - can it even be considered something that's available or known to the wider public?

I can assure you if you advertised this price months ago you'd have lots of buyers lining up.

don't know since when but rio sound selling it for $257 with free ship - link

I think they just lately changed the price, I bought a pair from them for $319 four months ago, on special too. Funny thing was that their price was the same for all colours, gloss not being pricier like here.

        • This has definitely changed only within the last few days. When I last checked Rio was still 330+

        • How does one select a specific finish colour on the Rio website?

        • @skatoz: When I ordered I just specified the colour in the comments section of the order and also in an email to them. They rang and confirmed just before shipping.
And yes, I can confirm Rio have adjusted the price very recently as the pair I bought just over a month ago were over $300.
They haven't adjusted their price for the 2070i subwoofer though: $669 vs Selby's $359 ($419 gloss).

        • @irate: Just checked and we do that subbie for $350 so if Selby do free delivery it's a good deal. In fact the $419 for the gloss is a steal as our buy price is over $410.

        • @irate: Thanks, just ordered the 3020's for $395 with free delivery.

        • @skatoz: Just received a pair of black gloss 3020's for $395 delivered. Given that this is a new model and premium finish, not too bad.

  • Rio have sold out of the Gloss White and Selby want $339 for these, who can hook me up with these in White for $257?

    • $339 is actually not a bad price. The Gloss White COST ME OVER $300 WHOLESALE. I'd probably grab them to be honest.

It's only the Charcoal and Walnut ones that are cheaper.

  • I've been really keen on buying some speakers for the first time, and I can't believe this came up!
If I was to buy these, how long do I have left to make a decision, and what else do I need to buy?
Could you please recommend an amplifier less than $100?

    • It's supposedly End of Financial Year sales, so I'm assuming it ends on the 30th.

I've seen people recommend a Topping TP22 Amplifier which is ~$100, but haven't been able to Google anyone specifically recommending this speaker+amp combo.

Not saying that it will be a bad combo, I just can't find any evidence on the Net to back it up either way.

  • Get the Voll B44 and the Topping Amp, it's the best bang for buck to get you started in Hi-Fi.

  • Will there be any sales any time soon for more bang for buck and can anyone vouch for the combo of VollB44 and Topping T23?
