can this support a usb 4g dongle?
      ^ edit:
      Question:
Hi, some question about Hi8 1) is it has GPS receiver 2) support external 3G modem? 3) is it has miracast/widi like Vi8?

      Reply:
Hi, sk ! 1.The item not support GPS,2.not support external 3G modem,3.it has no miracast/widi.

      • I don't understand why it wouldn't support dongles. If it's got windows, and a usb port..

The Screen may be lower res - but adequate for the size with output to HDMI. The battery is [nominally] 25% bigger and there is only 5% difference in the CPU passmark. Horses for courses really. Both put the Lasers and pendos we're being served up domestically in the shade, even at $29.

      @john
Thanks for the info. Yours is OK if you don't want HDMI.

      Let the people choose!

      • +3

        Yup, fair enough.

I personally won't need the HDMI so the Hi8 works for me, but the Vi8 is an equally good device. Plenty of reviews out there say it's the best value for money in the 8" Chinese Win8 tablets bunch.

  • The Hi8 is better and cost $85 USD from gearbest using the code RMNTGB (8% off)

    http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_192959.html

    • When I apply the code it comes up with $105.63 as it states you cannot combine 2 discounts together. Did you get $85?

      • last night i got it for 83. maybe its expired now. oh well 93$ much better value

    • No HDMI output.

  • why would you get this over the Hi8? 10aud difference

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199001

xEnt why is your post flagged as expired when its not? Also if the 8% off works update it with that and mention you can use cashrewards for further 7% saving. would be getting close to under 100 AUD.

    • is the HI8 better?
PS: code doesnt work, actually makes it more expensive!

      • +1

        I believe the HI8 has:

        higher resolution 1920x1200 vs 1280x800
better CPU Atom Z3736F vs Z3735F

The Vi8 has mini hdmi out the Hi8 has nothing.

        • Wonder how long it will take them to ship out the Hi8 as it is supposedly pre-release.

    • saw from another forum that gearbest has no stock on the Hi8………..

  • Does this one has 1 year office 365 subscription build in??

    • Does this one has 1 year office 365 subscription build in??

Mine does. Didn't install it though, as it would take up too much of the GB available.

      • if it does, i believe your eligible for a $25 cash back?

  • Any dual boot tablet which have gps?

I bought one a few months ago, and is definitely my favourite Impulse Buy this year!…I'm pretty happy for the price, not much space left as the 32GB is split between Windows & Android (I thinkk Windows had about 7GB free, and Android about 3-4GB free).

I use a 64GB MicroSD card in mine, plays movies etc really well. I've played Asphalt 8 (driving game) on both Windows and Android, and I can't tell the difference between playing the same game on my Ipad Air 2.

Forums are nearly all Chinese, google translate sort of helps but not really. I did a Windows 8 Refresh and the Android partition was still there. There are reports of successful Windows 10 install (but I'm not sure whether they kept the dual boot).

HDMI out DOESN'T work for me - I've read about poor connections and shaving down the plastic around the micro HDMI connector, but haven;t gotten around to it.

I went to activate the bundled Office365 subscription, but as I already have a 5 user subscription (yay $25 cashback and 20% off at tricky Dicky a few months ago), it wanted to REPLACE my existing subscription, not add to it. I guess you could probably go and create another MS ID etc if you really wanted it.

  • which is better if I just want a cheap windows tablet this or the unisurf 8?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199210

^isnt this better if i dont want android?

    • No. The Unisurf only has 1GB of RAM with less than 100MB free of RAM. This has 2GB with substantially more RAM to multitask. Unisurf will only be better in local warranties but this one will be better overall. You might be able to delete Android and recover the space if that is critical.

      • so is it worth the extra $35 for the 2 gigs of RAM? they both have the same processor and i don't really need any multitasking at all. i just wanna play simple games like league of legends and watch movies.

        • +1

Yes it is. Otherwise you will have to rely on swap file and even though its on eMMC, still much slower than true RAM. Note you cannot upgrade the RAM on these devices BTW.. so you should get the best of what your money can offer initially. Otherwise you will regret it later.

    • For reasonable performance, the 2GB RAM is important if you are going to install any Windows programs.

  • Is it easily doable to piss Android off and repartition the whole thing to just run Windows?
