180

Hey guys,

been looking at tablets lately and saw this one, it officially got released on their website a day or 2 ago. Gearbest have a 33% off sale not for long..

at this price, its probably the best value tablet in the world. Only downside i can see is the 4000 mAH battery.

Pros:

$93

Great resolution
Newer Atom CPU model (for the chinese mobile scene anyway)
microSD card slot

Probably wont be the best battery life, but i did read they claim 5-6 hours of usage
Small amount of space left over after both OS installs (get a micro SD card!)

  • Chuwi Hi8 Tablet

Can you attach the Chuwi on your boot ???

  • might want to add an actual link to the product…

    • apologies, its at the top of the thread until a mod can fix it!

  • Uhm.. ideally the "go to deal" button would actually link to the the product page on the gearbest site….. not just a picture of it

  • Is it easy to remove Windows 8.1 or order a factory installed one without Windows 8.1?

    • +1

Since it is dual boot, i think that means access to the EFI, and not locked down.
Repartitioning to give the extra space to Android will not be an exercise for the novice though.

  • Nowadays phones have batteries of around that capacity.

    • +3

And there is every chance the actual capacity of the included battery could be overstated as well, making things worse potentially.

  • compare with teclaat x89, which one is better? , I'm keen to buy one, can't decide it, thanks

    • probably the teclast (not by much) but thats also $65 AUD more…

  • sorry guys link updated in the first post. cant figure out how to change it at the top.

  • Miracast or HDMI would have made this a total must have :-/

    • it has miracast at least

      • In the answers section:
        "Question:
Hi, some question about Hi8 1) is it has GPS receiver 2) support external 3G modem? 3) is it has miracast/widi like Vi8?
        Reply:
Hi, sk ! 1.The item not support GPS,2.not support external 3G modem,3.it has no miracast/widi."

  • +2

I have a Chuwi Vi8 (720P) screen from an earlier Ozbargain deal. My tablet has Micro HDMI out…these devices are surprisingly well made, and quite 'fun' - I paid a little more for mine ($140 with a case), and while it has it's limitations, I love it.

But the 32GB disk is small, and is shared across both OS's, and once you install a few apps on either OS the space runs out quickly.
Watching movies etc of the MicroSD card is simple (I've got a 64GB card in mine)

It plays games quite well - Asphalt 8 on Android is barely indistinguishable from running it on my iPad Air 2. Windows 8.1 performance is quite good, after full updates etc you probably have about 6GB free for installing apps.

But documentation is poor (forum sites are in Chinese, and google translate doesn't really help). God help me if I brick it…getting it back to factory condition might be a struggle (if you do a Windows 8 reset, it leaves the Android part intact). I think I've got a Macrium Reflect whole disk image, but I've no real way to test it…

For those interested, I've found the following site with loads of info (interspersed with typical forum rubbish)
    http://forums.redflagdeals.com/hot-gearbest-chuwi-vi8-w8-1-4…

  • If it can be updated to Windows 10 (as it has an Intel cpu) then it will also be able to use Apple apps (which Windows 10 will be capable of running according to a contact at Apple Store).

    • i doubt that, and i wouldn't listen to much of what an apple 'genius' tells you.

    • Lol is that what the 'aPple gEnius' actually said?
The fact is that ios developers will be able to port their application to Windows. Will be interesting to see how many chose to do that and what the user experience will be like. Ditto for Android apps which will be able to run unmodified.

  • oh my god 1200p for under 100 usd…..

    everyone else can go home

  • good spec a 100$ pad

  • This is a great deal, i already bought a few days ago, well worth it!

    • i was eyeing this a few days ago but this same one said 1280x720p display or something. overnight they updated it to match the correct announced specs which is 1200p :)

  • cashrewards of 5.6% for further savings right?

  • Could be tempted on similar seeing as the local HP deal, fell through. Promised a FHD touchscreen (non IPS) across a realistic 14" 169 AU. So just require a x2 bigger
Have a couple of power banks sitting unutilized to smooth over drainage issue. if only tabs picked up cyanogenOS support would have a real contender.

  • I have bought one with cashrewards, :-)

  • +1

Very good value for the money. Unfortunately it's GearBest and my order placed 14 days ago has not been fulfilled.

Fortunately, Geekbuying has it for the same price $92.69

    • Have you received your order yet? mine was set to shipped on Friday.

my Cash rewards never received the cashback transaction either… not sure what went wrong there either.. annoying.

      • at least urs stated as shipped. I paid extra for 3-8 days autralia line.

but the receipt stated standard flat shipping…..

      • @rakerr I decided to ask for refund and have received the refund. Note that my order wasn't for this.

  • how long does gearbest shipped out usually?

it advertised as 3-5 days shipped.

it has been 6 business days now, has not been shipped yet.

    • mine apparently has shipped but the tracking number does nothing. dont even know where to insert it to. i paid for the extra toll aus line shipping too but my receipt says standard flat. some googling shows me that they are really dodgy with doing that in shipping. im guessing ill get it in a few weeks.

      • my friend paid for DHL has been shipped within 5 working days (1 dollar more than Aus line shipping)

we bought the same time, mine still no news from gearbest, after two email and finally shipped out.

tracking webpage provided…… http://www.szdpex.com.cn/ use google translate

        • Track "Aus Line" shipping here: http://eretaillogistics.com.au/tracking.php.

I had to ask the rep. I got mine yesterday, quite happy… finally! Case still has'nt shipped though, very frustrating.

        • @ibfragalot:

well….. from the webpage, stated my case is sent out 3 days later than the tablet.

Have recieved the case today. no sign of tablet.

the tracking system still stated as awaiting pick up.

  • So mine turned up and so did the 128gb sdcard from TA's big post. Despite it saying it will only support 64gb ones here are the results….

Warning: Only 121908 of 121909 MByte tested.

    Good?

    • what shipping method did you use, the Toll Australia Line one for like $6?

  • Also I think the 80ish gram weight diff from an ASUS Note 8 is due to the lack of glass over the screen. It has plastic and it will push against the display if pressed too hard (and by too hard, I don't mean that hard at all), and can even stick to it. It looks terrifying when it comes apart, the area goes all white for a second. Mine came with it sticking to it but after a few minutes of being on it popped apart.

  • the 2 i ordered have arrived. 1 of them has some bubble/ring in the middle of the LCD screen about the size of a 50c piece which im not happy with. the other one is fine, works great and very happy with it.

i do wonder what to do with this other one, how is returns etc with gearbest?

    • xEnt, How did you go with returning the unit with the bubble/ring? I ordered 2 units and they both arrived today and wife at home is reporting one of them has a bubble/ring similar to what you have mentioned. Just wondering if you have any recommendations on how to deal with Gearbest.

      • actually it ended up being (somehow) a software thing lol. I was about to send it back and my wife rebooted it and it was gone? was happy about that! try the same!

        • Wow. After I read your post I checked mine again. Restarting it didn't fix it but applying gentle pressure on the spot made it disappear. Thanks for your tip. Not sure if I would have discovered it without your idea. Now I have 2 perfectly working units!

        • @coldecol:

ah cool maybe that's what my wife did!

pretty happy with my tablet. only issue i have found is, plugging headphones in seems to make it go spastic (but only if you have a media player like poweramp that auto plays when u plug headphones in. i found a way around though, each time i plug it in, i quickly exit and stop the media thats playing.

battery life is meh, but i just bought a xiaomi 16000mAH power pack for that.

  • How do you boot it into Windows? Tried holding down vol+ when I turned it on but it sticks on "Waiting for fastboot command".

    • in android where you slide to dropdown the notifications menu from the top, do this over the right hand side of the screen, you'll see a toggle called OS Switch

      • Thanks. Holding down vol- when you turn it on also works.

  • got mine, surprisingly good screen
no office included as per geekbuying sale……

    • Came with office
