I'm definitely intrigued by these Xiaomi phones. An Aussie launch of the 17 Pro Max would probably get me over the line.

    • I'm waiting for exactly just that. Heard the 17 pro max wont be out in Oz till early 2026.

      • +1

There's zero reason to believe it will launch outside China, as usual with the Pros.

    • +7

      Over double this price though

      • +7

        Triple

        • +1

          Quadruple

    • But it will be close to the apple price.

      • +11

but it will 4x the phone compared to crapple!!! please bring on the negs from crappleatron fanboys that need to defend their pride! :D
EDIT: Keep the negs coming you Muppets! :D

        • -1

I did not neg you, but it wont be 4X iphone pro max feature wise. Maybe 1.4X max.

      • lol

    • +10

I miss my Xiaomi Poco F3 that was unfairly lost to the 3G shutdown. Not just the hardware, but actually the software.

I didn't realise how much of the HDR was handled by Xiaomi's auto-HDR which Nothing Phone didn't have.

      • My f3 stopped working on telstra, but still works on vodafone.

        • +8

I argued to Amazon that it stopped working during its reasonable expected lifespan as it had updates ahead of it, they gave me a full refund on a 2.5yr old phone.

          • @Jimbuscus: Wow, score how much was ur refund?

            • @SkyeMG: A$420, I had actually gotten A$20 Shopback cashback, so I netted +A$20.

Had bought on Amazon AU from Amazon UK, they made me return it to Amazon AU with a rather short window, I think a week.

              • @Jimbuscus: ah yeah nice so had to return still but not bad.

my f3 and mi 11i the batteries r so cooked now so it would've been nice if i originally bought it on Amazon lol

                • @SkyeMG: As Telstra's 3G SMS test confirmed and assured that my handset would not be disconnected, I didn't have any notice or time to get a good value replacement.

Spent A$639 on a Nothing Phone 2A+ which didn't last a year before it had major charge issues, unfortunately that wasn't from Amazon, it was from JB HiFi. Very covered under warranty and both JB Hi-Fi or Nothing are being completely unhelpful with my warranty claim.

Amazon is a bit overpriced, but the returns I have done over the years are incredible.

              • +1

@Jimbuscus: Yeah wow. I grabbed the same F3 deal from Amazon UK via AU I reckon.
I upgraded to a P8P after about a year and just put it in a drawer.

        • +1

Same, on vodafone, custom ROM and new battery and works just as well as ever. Am getting tired of the cat-and-mouse play-integrity arms race though due to the root. Otherwise wouldn't have needed to upgrade for years alas.

    • +1

But 17 pro max or 17 ultra with the big fancy camera

    • +11

Having been burnt by the oppo x9 pro launch… I'm not gonna be holding my breath!
What were they thinking charging 2.3k.

Xiaomi is a bit more sensible.. even if the RRP is 2k+, at least the launch offers will be better..

      • +1

You can get Find X9 Pro for more like $1600 if you import from Singapore (still global model)

        • I see they're listed for pretty cheap.. any way to import them? Might have to pay gst but I'm okay with it..

          • @bruhminister: Mobyshop ships internationally I think, there are probably other options as well though

      • It was alot but the watch and buds were enough to get me to go for local purchase as I can just resell it- still almost $1k in extras. Also Oppo ColorOS is simply far better than HyperOS.

        • +5

You will be super lucky to sell watch and buds for $1,000 😂

        • +3

I mean.. would you buy a preowned watch and earbuds for 1k? I think you'd be lucky if you can resell it for 600-700..

  • +27

I was pleasantly surprised to find out the 15T Pro has an IR remote. I missed it dearly, from the Galaxy Note 4 days.

    • +19

oh yeah, we used to have so much fun with public TVs.

      • +1

        At food courts
        Is anyone really watching this?
        Nah, didn't think so 😁

      • Yeah that's the selling point go to a place with TV don't like the channel just change it

Surprised the staff there someone hacked their TV

Probably buy a phone with IR blaster just for this purpose

    • mint!

    • I remember my HTC One M7 had an IR blaster too!

    • Yeah I miss it from LG G4 the boot loop master

Is this the only model with IR blaster? Like recent model from Xiaomi

    • +10

What's wrong with MediaTek? I know they used to be bad a while a back but they've come a long way.

      Edit: I ask this genuinely

      • +30

Nothing, just a person parroting everything they see on the internet

        • +4

parroting like 5 years old stuff, too.

      • +5

AFAIK, it's a valid concern if you are into modern emulation (e.g. Switch) as Qualcomm has better driver support. Admittedly the Elite series has no Turnip drivers support either but I'm guessing Adreno (Qualcomm) is still more popular and supported in general compared to Mali (MediaTek).

      • Violation of GPL by not releasing kernel sources so custom ROMs aren't a thing is my biggest gripe

        • That wouldn't make much of a difference with how Xiaomi handled bootloader unlocking.

      • +2

MediaTek is better overall in power efficiency.

In fact it has better performance/power consumption ratio than Qualcomm

They used to be pretty bad until their dimensity range came out in recent years. 9000 series is pretty much flagship quality from TSMC beats Snapdragon

Snapdragon had to chase up with 4nm manufacturing and still slightly lower on power efficiency

A lot of Chinese phones use Mediatek

The old stuff on Helios Chipset set was bad. But Dimensity a totally different story

Also Chinese brands have IR blaster unlike Asus, Samsung and Motorola

    • +2

its not 2017 anymore…. mediatek is good

  • Is it under amazon aus warranty?

  • Do the take the UK Vat 17% off and add Aust Gst 10%

  • +1

Will it cheaper on black friday ?

    • +3

I’ll let you know during the Black Friday sales.

  • +7

Is there a chance this phone will be blocked on aus networks because it's an import?

  • Great phone but OS kills it for me. Prefer native Android.

    • +4

native android ? I don't think any phones run that, not sure you can run a phone on the AOSP, they all use thier own skin one way or the other.

      • +6

yeah the native android narrative is a bit overworked. Some ppl prefer certain skins like Samsung or Motorolla.
Easier to just say "i only buy pixel". Which would be fine except they aren't that compelling anymore outside of camera AI.

        • +2

Not even pixel is native android

        • Call screening and automatic spam call blocking isn't a pixel thing?

    • +7

It's not much different to stock android, dual apps is a great feature.

      • -2

It is quite different actually, nowhere near what a Pixel is like. Alot of bloatware.

        • +4

          No bloatware on global rom…

        • +1

pixel is also not stock android

  • Older *T Pro had 120w charge and Snapdragon for this price.

    • China no longer wants to rely on Snapdragon. They have their own chips now and even use Taiwan one instead of anything Qualcomm

      Qualcomm will go under soon

      • +1

Always wanted. Both Samsung and Xiaomi tried already and miserably sucked. Qualcomm is top for a reason.

  • 17 pro max doesn't have esim at this stage.
Pros and Cons between cameras with 15t pro.

  • Can we claim gst if we buy this as gift and traveling overseas soon

    • +1

can't see why not as long as the invoice has it

    • Also interested in this. I looked at an invoice for a previous Amazon purchase (Amazon Japan via Amazon AU) and the invoice shows the GST and Amazon AU’s ABN). Tempting.

“Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd (ABN 30 616 935 623) is raising this invoice pursuant to Australia Goods and Service Tax on low value goods (i.e. goods with a value of AUD $1,000 or less) that are imported
into Australia, including goods sold by third-party sellers, as of 1 July 2018.“

  • -3

this place has it for $800.00

    https://spectronic.com.au/product/xiaomi-15t-5g-256gb-12gb-r…

has anyone bought from spectronic? are they legit?

    • +5

Non pro version, if you want the non pro Amazon UK has it for 650

  • +2

    General info for anyone interested.

    • Pro, ProMax versions historically don't launch outside of China, so dont expect the Xiaomi 17 Pro with the back screen to launch here.

    • China models don't support Android Auto, eSim's and banking apps, so don't buy if you want to use them

    • Xiaomi confirmed during the Aus launch that they work with 000 and use voLTE

    • MediaTek are good if not great these days, they had a bad reputation for being cheap, and closed source so custom ROMs weren't a thing, it's difficult to unlock Xiaomi phones these days anyway.

I upgraded from my Mi 11 lite to a 15T pro and am honestly loving it

    • Thanks! So do you think there will be no risk with this phone being blocked in Australia?

      • +2

Depends which phone and where your buying it.

The official mi Australian website will be fine
        Can't speak for grey imports

        • I mean the phone in this post available via Amazon UK. I'd feel bad listing it as a bargain of it's not fully functional in Australia.

          • @jshopper: Is it a "global" version? Usually identified by G at the end of the model no.
If this follows the rules with previous Xiaomi/Redmi phones and model no ends in G then it will work in AUS.
Xiaomi distribute the global versions to Philippines, Singapore, Australia (Xiaomi distributes officially here now) Not sure about UK. In my experience Xiaomi prices are often better in Manila and Singapore than in AUS. But warranty maybe nil.

            • @ocular: Where do you see this ends in G thingy?

              • +1

@John Doh: After sourcing many Xiaomi phones internationally have learnt that to work reliably here you need a global version. https://xiaomiforall.com/xiaomi-15t-15t-pro-global-launch-sp…
Confirms the global version of 15T Pro is available. And the model no. ends in G Need to find the model no. of the version in this deal. Otherwise don't purchase.

                • +1

@ocular: Support confirmed it's the international version

            • @ocular: I'm guessing the model number should be on the box? Worst-case scenario, I order and receive the phone, the model does not end with a G, and I return it to Amazon (paying the Amazon Global $15 return fee).

              Sounds about right?

              • +1

@eciuj: Yes the model no. for the Global version is 2506BPN68G and will be on box and under settings/ about in phone. Not sure why there seems to be resistance to publishing the model number and mentioning "Global" version by Amazon and Xiaomi. "International" version does not suffice as this can mean an international ROM on a CN (non-global) phone. This link gives a much better list of specs (including model no.) https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_15t_pro_5g-14178.php and links to the Amazon UK site where it is listed for 449GBP which is just over $900AUD so this deal for the 15T Pro 12-256 is good value delivered here with no extra GST ~ $854.27AUD - the same phone (hopefully) is listed on the Xiaomi AU site for $1299AUD

      • +1

I bought it from Amazon UK and it works great in Australia.

        • And the model no. is …….?

    • 15T Pro is available on the AU store, the ProMax/Ultra generally doesn't launch outside china.

    • Doubt there will be any issues with banking on CN ROM, most bank apps worked fine on Chinese HyperOS for me

    • No e-sim support? That's only the case if you get the CN version right? Global version should work fine
