  • Do I Need Another tablet

  • Is this any good? Pretty interested in upgrading from ipad 2

  • I'd like something with these specs to plug into a monitor, so what can i get that's similar but cheaper and with no screen? -i.e. just a box.

    • Quite a lot. Not much cheaper though,
      This really is, right now as good as it gets. If the screen worries you that much, I suggest the following

      1- find your blu ray player
      2- turn tablet face down
      3- slide under blu ray player
      4- profit

      Obviously you need to hook up power, HDMI at some point, I suggest a step2a

      Seriously though, 2 gig ram is the killer thing here, buy one

  • Would be just about perfect if it had 64GB, but for ~$100 it's a bargain.
    EDIT
    ah bugger.. The 0.3 mp camera (640 x 480) would make it pretty poor for skype.

    • Thats almost DVD quality. (pity about the optics though)

  • Woo, micro HDMI and g sensor. Perfect for hooking up to the TV for KIDS and punching if it crashes ;-p

  • Looking for a tablet for just reading PDFs, watching in youtube and twitch. Is this good or would a samsung tab from dicksmith be better?

    No GPS :{

    Chuwi hi8 better? (but no hdmi)

  • Hmm $8 less than the Chuwi Vi8, but only 32 Gb max listed for the SD, against 64.. Does anyone know if that spec is just boilerplate?

    • I have a 64GB SD card in my vi8 (only about half full with music and video). Windows detects the card most of the time but it does drop detection every now an then, but a reboot usually picks up card again. I honestly didn't know that it had a 32GB limit. That would probably explain the issues I'm having.

      • No, the chuwi does claim 64 :-). It was this one I was wondering about….

  • if you don't need HDMI and don't mind spending an extra $10 - the Chuwi Hi8 has a much better display (resolution, brightness & colours) and better CPU. http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_192959.html

    Warning. Although the website says AU$106.21, and does not charge for shipping, the paypal charge is US$93.99, which is AU$121.84. I think they have their internal conversion wrong. I have contacted the rep to find out what is going on. The prices in Canadian and Australian dollars only make sense if the USD price is 81.99

    • And the Stirling price is too high. Do they give you a choice of currency when you pay, as Amazon does?

      • No. I believe there is an error on their page. You can only pay using Paypal, and the amount paypal charges your cc is USD93.99.

        • I just had a look and it was asking for AUD. Is your paypal account in USD? Try changing it.

        • @manic:
          Changed. Paypal says AUD, but when you get back to the newfrog checkout it says that the cc will be charged USD93.99

      @robbiequinn,

      Our currency is not very accurate. The page shows US$93.99, while if you change the currency to AU, it will charges you AU$106.21, and our paypal accept payment in AUD. That is the reason why you can see the price is not the equivalent

      • Still waiting for a reply. Although paypal says $106.21, after returning to your website I am told I will be charged US$93.99, which is about $121. Is paypal correct, or is your website?

          @robbiequinn,

          I have updated the title. The currency is not accurate.

          @Newfrog.Official:
          This is dishonest. The original price you quoted was in AUD - AU$106.21, which is about USD81.99.
          You had a problem with your website, and don't want to admit it.

        • @robbiequinn:
          I have asked for this bargain to be removed.

        • @Newfrog.Official:
          I have obtained an explanation and apology from the Store Rep. I have bought from them in the past and had no problems. Although the Paypal site told me I would be charged AUD106.21, I couldn't be sure that I wouldn't be billed USD93.99. I think the website was using very old conversion tables. They are now fixed, I think.

        • @robbiequinn: Yep - now A$121. Compared to the Chuwi, not a deal.

    I have the Teclast x89 with the same processor. I ran Speccy on Windows and it returned a frequency of 1.33GHz, so anybody know which is correct? 1.33GHz or 1.83GHz?

    • when all 4 cores are in use its 1.33ghz, when its in turbo/boost mode (using 1-2 cores) its 1.83ghz.

    • +1

      It is 1.33. or 1.83 Chinese GHz. (brief bursts)
      I've seen worse: one vendor multiplied the clock speed by the number of cores :-)

      • 'chinese ghz' love it!

  • See similar (cheaper) post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199769

  • Why would u bother they cant even tell you the correct price.the chuwi vi8 is a good tablet yes the hi8 has higher resolution but keep in mind these Chinese tablets don't have the same battery life as a decent tablet I get about 5-5half hours off chuwi vi8 so pushing the higher resolution on the hi8 cant see u getting more than 4 hours and after 3-4 months probably around 2 and a half hours food for thought
