StaticIce suggests that Maxo were previously selling this for $189.95 and cheapest is $177.87.

I think Gigaset phones are the best option for VoIP and you can add up to 6 handsets using cheap DECT compatible handsets, although the genuine handsets are much nicer.

  • why would someone spend this much when you can do the same with a normal cordless phone for $20 + a voip ATA adapter for less than $50.. a recent 4 handset deal was $80-odd recently, if I am not mistaken.

not criticizing the deal, but trying to understand how this is better. I understand that additional handsets of the gigaset are also very expensive..

The Gigaset offers better call quality (no digital-analogue-digital conversion introduced by the ATA/Cordless phone), multiple calls on the same base, VoIP functions like transfer/hold interact with the SIP PBX (ATA has to use dialcodes for any features). It also offers superior battery life compared to a $20 phone, is manufactured to a much higher standard, has extra features and a nicer, larger colour display.

  • C610 IP for $139.85

  • Can this phone be used to connect to IINet naked dsl VOIP service? Does this need any other adapter or will it connect to Modem via ethernet cable?

It can connect to any SIP service - it just connects to your modem/router with the supplied ethernet cable.

I just grabbed one of those cheap Huawei Phones on here a couple of months back. I connected it to my wifi, installed CSipSimple, entered in my provider, stare, voip number and password and it worked. I installed and app that starts csip simple if the phone reboots and configured it to keep running after the screen is locked. Total cost $ 45.

I completely agree with Shazbud. We used VoIP in the past and bought two Nokia E71 to do this over wifi. E71 has inbuilt VoIP calling facilities, so no app needed.

Contrary to OP. The call quality is amazing even with E71 + wifi.

Sorry OP. Doesn't look like a good deal to me. Besides this looks like normal price to me ..

Well I actually hadn't made a comment regarding smartphones yet.

Your smartphones with VoIP over Wifi just can't compete with DECT quality when moving about. There's a reason why none of the major manufacturers do Wifi VoIP phones anymore - the experience over wifi is often miserable unless you are standing still or have a very high-density business grade wifi solution.

I also understand your point - there are cheaper ways to go about it (isn't there with everything?) but none of the alternatives (Cheap smart phone, cheap cordless phone with ATA) will give you as good an experience as a DECT VoIP phone when it comes to call quality, ease of use, convenience.

And regarding the deal - I respect your opinion. This site is run by bargain hunters, after all - but you won't find one of these units cheaper in Australia, and that makes it the best deal available on this unit.

I agree with this comment. I have a C610 and it is much better than any smart phone with a VoIP app. I've tried Android and iOS phones and the WiFi latency is the problem. The C610 sounds better than the original analog phone with no echo.

Not sure what you are on about, mate. But I didn't find any issues with my set up.

Op, I need a 4 handset setup (two storey house). By your deal It wud cost me $150 + 3x $132 = $ 546, eh ? Whereas if you use a cordless set of 4 handset with ATA, it would cost you Max $150 with an answering machine. Which incidentally this one doesn't have. And if you decided to go with a deal like optus unlimited, you can still use it.

I once bought a c640 from freshtel for $109, which is probably where this one should be as well. Anyway, the handset wasn't bad but kept disconnecting from the Internet.. The SMS facility did not work, all in all not value for money so I returned it.

I guess this is a case of Buyer Beware.

  • I bought one of these a few years ago, the base system plays up sometimes won't turn on for hours/days after losing power.

I have more than given up with it now

    • We have never had the bluetooth models available to us. Sounds like perhaps the power supply for the base, or the base itself might have died. Depending on the model of the handsets, they could be compatible with newer bases but I'm unsure if the bluetooth features would work.

      • The bluetooth allowed transfer of phonebook from mobile devices.

It was UK version, lasted a couple of years before playing up.

  • I wish VOIP phones like these would connect to Skype…

    • My gigaset was struggling to connect to the Internet LOL

  • op you might want to add shipping cost in title :)

  • whats the difference between the 530 and 510…

    https://www.mynetfone.com.au/whirlpool/VoIP/Whirlpool-Shop/S…

bought the 510 for the inlaws a few weeks ago… works fantastic…(and obviously much cheaper)

    • C530IP has colour screen/headset port and some extra software features vs A510IP (previous Gen lower model)

      • you can change the colour of the screen on the A510 if that counts :D
