    • Yes - Apparently the deal has been so popular they are waiting on the cards to be printed

      • Got a mail yesterday, I thought finally here it is and the wait is over but.. it was from Amex Cust Service apologising for the delay and advising that they will be dispatching it on 21 Aug and will give me 10 more days to meet the spend eligibility criteria..what a pain, been waiting to book my overseas travel tickets..it would be great if they can waive off the annual fees for the delay ;) happy to wait couple of more weeks then..

  • Used your link GameOfScones. Simply because I'm a thrones fan ;)

  • I used Chthonic's referral link. Cheers!

I'll add mine to the list when I get my card - still waiting on approval (it's been 2 days now).

  • Hello,

Will i get 1 Velocity point for every $1 spent on my Foxtel subscription and gym membership ?
(I think for Internet Service providers it's 0.5 Velocity point for every $1 spent isn't it?)

    Thanks !

    • Hey mate,

1 point per dollar on your Foxtel & Gym but only .5 for your Internet.

      Hope that helps.

      Cheers,

  • Thanks Dazzywazzy :)

Just 2 final questions for everyone :

    1) Does Amex automatically transfer earned Velocity points to your Velocity account ?

    2) When does the " Spend $1000 in 3 months " period start ? Does it start the day you applied
for the card ? Or when you activate your card ?

    Thank you once again.

      1. Yes they do, monthly, a few days before your statement comes out.

      2. On activation of card.

      • Are you sure it's activation of card and not the date your application gets approved?

        • You're probably right, perhaps on approval, hence the 10 extra days some are getting

        • @wazza23: yes I was given the extra 10 days and I'm pretty sure that's what they told me when I asked when the 90 days (or 3 months, if there is a difference in how they calculate) is from approval date

  • I was approved when i applied for the card online. But i did not get an sms or email to say that i was approved. Did anyone have the same experience as me ?

    • I was approved online and got an SMS but this was a month ago now, from all reports they are so far behind in applications that although your application was auto approved, it probably still takes that human intervention to "push" the button for it to progress in the system. Shouldn't be more than 24-48 hours and you will have a SMS or an email or both.

Thanks Dazzy :)I will have to wait and see if i will get any notice within the next day or 2.

  • Hey guys, looking at doing this deal but I currently have an AMEX card issued by CBA. I dont think it is associated with "Amex" it self but reading the small print i saw this.

"Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12 month period are ineligible for this offer. 110,000 bonus Velocity Points will be awarded to your Velocity Account 8-10 weeks after the spend criteria has been met. This advertised offer is not applicable or valid in conjunction with any other advertised or promotional offer."

    Anyone else come across this?

    • Nope, it doesn't count. You are free to sign up! Remember to use a referral link from the wiki on the original post.

  • Hey all,

Been using my card (Platnium Velocity) and I noticed I also received 10,000 points like the others posted just after my woolworths purchase.

However I also noticed that my purchase pushed me over $500 spend on my card, and looking at the Platnium Edge Card this is what it says
"Receive 10,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points1 when you apply online by 30 September 2015 are approved and spend $500 on your Card within the first 2 months of Card Membership"

Do you think they have mixed something up? I havent hit the 1k worth of spend to get my 100K points yet….

    thoughts?…….

    • Don't worry, you'll get the other 90,000 soon. Just keep spending.

  • just re-read

  • Is this route right http://www.americanexpress.com/australia/campaigns/velocityp…

Since when they cut eastern states routes from Perth?!

    • +1

I called them yesterday and they said Sydney and Adelaide are still available return options FROM Perth

  • +1

I had an existing Amex but decided to apply after reading comments from wazza23 and others. Got my 110k within a couple of days of hitting 1k spend. Really happy camper right now.

Now to refer the wife and brother-in-law!

Planning a family trip to France in a year. Will be the first o/s trip for the kids. Flights comfortably the biggest expense, this will help make it affordable!

    Thanks wazz.

  • Just applied using the referral link (lucky last on the referral list).
    Cheers.

  • Has anyone actually got any of the 20,000 referral bonuses lately? I've referred a number of friends and family over the past 2 weeks, and haven't had any of these bonuses come through yet. Other people I've spoken to were receiving the bonuses the day after the person they referred got their application approved.

    • Having the same problem mate. I know of 1 family member I referred and signed them up myself, approved and all good but not referral bonus. Previous family members who I signed up I got the 20,000 instantly. Something fishy is happening.

      • Thanks mate. I checked with amex, and gave them an example of a family member I signed up. The family member got 110,000 points over the 100,000 for signing up without a referral link, so clearly the referral worked. Amex said they could see that I had referred the person, but the person I was chatting with said they didn't know why I hadn't received a bonus and would have to raise a job with some other department to find out. They did say the t&c's say the bonus can take 8-10 weeks to be credited, but then it's confusing that others have been receiving theirs in a few days.

        • Thanks for the info, keep us updated. I know they had to print new cards so there may just be a huge backlog. Either that or Virgin told them off for giving out too many points :)

        • @dazzywazzy:

I'm pretty sure I used your referal link dazzywazzy. I went with one that I liked the sound of. It was either you, wazza23 or Chimichanga.

        • @puffinfresh: If that's the case then thanks heaps mate, but I haven't received anything since 22/08/2015 - So if you were after this then this is probably the issue we are having.

        • +1

          @dazzywazzy:

I have heard the 22nd as a common date that people seemed to stop receiving referrals

  • +1

Applied on Thursday 3/9 and received cards today 7/9. Super fast and a great offer. Referral link also posted so don't forget to use it like i did.

  • I got one referral bonus on 20/08 thanks to an unsolicited good Samaritan (THANKS SO MUCH!)

I have since signed up my wife and no referral points yet. So another one for the 22/08 backlog.

A friend said today he would sign up but asked if I would split the 20k bonus with him. I said he gets 10k extra by using my link, so if we split the bonus pool, we should get 15k each and I'd send him a free 5k. I thought that was fair for both! Not sure what happens if family transfer doesn't work. Maybe send him 5k worth of gift card? Thoughts?

Oh, I guess the offer is open to others too if interested :)

  • Seems to be some discussion over on AFF about the 22/08 referral issue. Most people are saying it refers to the type of link, whether it was direct or marketing. Amex consider marketing if it comes from another source instead of say copy pasting the referral link into your web browser.

For example, the OzBargain wiki links would most likely come under marketing as the Amex system knows where the link was clicked. Same as if you shared it on Facebook. Amex has been known to investigate marketing links and ask people to provide proof that they are actually friends of family of the person you joined up. This is one theory as to why the referrals are taking so long as they have probably received so many that they are going to check them all.

People on AFF are reporting they've received points after 22/08 but only when their friends were DIRECTLY signed up.

I have only summarised what I read and this isn't my own opinion, nor has this been confirmed by Amex, but it gives us something to talk about.

  • Did anyone here have problems accessing their account information on the AMEX website tonight ?
I can log in but cannot access my account information and profile etc.

    • Ignore my above comment, all ok now.

  • Has anyone received their first statement which tells them to pay up the annual fee ?
Also, I received my card on the 27th of Aug, and used the card on some grocery shopping the next day.
However, my Velocity statement has not shown any points from that spending. Guess i will have to wait till
the end of this month and see if it comes through ?

    • +1

The first statement included the annual fee on mine.
All points are transferred over at the one specific time each month. I think I had to wait more than a month the first time, and then monthly at the same time after that. You won't see the points hit your velocity account until after that.
You can check the online Amex statement at any time for points accrual, though. It will also show the bonus.
Don't forget you also have to spend the minimum amount for the bonus - I think it was $1000 in 3 months?

      • +1

Thanks Anawth :) you are right about the $1000 spending within the first 3 months.

        • I got my 110000 points after spending over $500. I was at $497.83, then spent $150 at a restaurant, and the bonus points showed up in my transactions.

  • +1

approved and received in super quick time, now for a new tele i think to get me these velocity points.
Didn't expect to be approved so i didn't write down whose referal link i used, but it was towards the bottom of the platinum list. So hopefully one of you will get a nice little surprise soon.

  • +1

I convinced a friend to sign up.

I pay him $349 & shout him a nice lunch in exchange for points
He gets free flights and a nice meal
    I get 130k points for $400

The weakness is if Virgin block the 'family transfer'. Any idea how often they check family relationship?

If Virgin block the transfer, I imagine I could still (assuming Virgin don't kill the points)

    a) get my friend to book a flight in my name with his points
    b) cash in the points for debit cards etc

    Any thoughts?

@wazza23 - this deal is taking over my life. All I do is dream about ways to accumulate more points.

  • Just got my card too. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Guys check out the website. Looks like they processed the referral bonuses yesterday.

  • Yahoooooooooooooooooooooo bonus points from referrals have finally been posted!!!

  • Hi all, has anyone found it difficult to spend the minimum $1000 in the first 3 months using this card? Many of the merchants either do not accept the card or charge a surcharge. Also, AMEX cannot be used to pay utilities, council rates etc… Figuring out the quickest/easiest way to spend $2000 in 3 months (as I am signing up the missus also). Thanks!

    • How about stocking up on Wish/Coles gift cards?

      • This. $1000 of gift cards where ever you get your groceries. Use them when you need to.

    • I've found roughly 60% of places i try accept amex. I have been putting everything on the card and then paying when due. Supermarkets and restaurants are the easiest to use it at.

  • Phew, nearly forgot about this but managed to use a referral link and get approved!

Whoever Curveygirl is, you're about to be 20k points richer!

    • +4

My guess is it's a guy who knows a username like Curveygirl will get more referral clicks.

  • Someone used my referral link twice! I appreciate it so much! Thanks

  • Did anyone get the 100000 bonus points without spending the whole $1000?

    • No, i only saw it once i exceeded the 1000.

      • I saw it after $500

  • Hi everyone,
When does AMEX transfer your Velocity Points over to your Velocity account ?
Mine has not been transferred yet.

    • +1

Usually at statement time mate. Don't worry, it will happen :)

      • Thanks for the reply!
Just that i have already paid my first statement
on Sept 30th. Guess i will just have to wait and see now.

    • +1

When i sent them a message to ask they told me points are transferred about 6 days before the first statement.
That turned out accurate for me. My first statement is due to come this week and my points were transferred over last week.

  • Thank you for the reply Auspunkrocker :)

  • Don't forget to use the lounge passes - these will be loaded onto your VFF card.

    • If you are going to/from Sydney, you also have free access to the Amex Lounge.

I'm considering Perth-Sydney with a friend. I'll use my 2 free Virgin Lounge passes in Perth, and the Amex Lounge entry on the return flight in Sydney.

      • +1

Amex Lounge is in the international airport though..

        • Oh. I didn't know that :(

  • I hope "Chimichanga" you got the 20K points for the referral link.

I got my 10K extra for using your link !!! :-)

    Muchas gracias !!!

  • I recently got the platinum edge 15k points, I have no Idea how I missed this bargain :(

    • Ouch.

      • Platinum edge isnt so bad with its return fare 15k for signing up as referral, This is my first fee based credit card but the 349 would have been better in terms of benefits but you are locked into velocity but 100k points would buy some decent gift cards

        • +5

Well, I would hope people wouldn't be using it on gift cards, here the analysis I did for the points, all from Adelaide so it would possibly be slightly less points/taxes from other cities

          International:
          • Adelaide – Auckland/Christchurch return economy, 33800 points + $160 taxes flying Virgin
          • Adelaide – Auckland/Christchurch return business, 67600 points + $160 taxes flying Virgin
          • Adelaide – Bali return economy, 33600 points + $120 taxes flying Virgin (before 03/03/2016)
          • Adelaide – Bali return business, 67600 points + $120 taxes flying Virgin (before 03/03/2016)
          • Adelaide – Bali return economy, 47800 points + $170 taxes flying Virgin (after 03/03/2016) Via Sydney as no direct flights anymore from Adelaide after 03/03/2016
          • Adelaide – Bali return business, 95600 points + $170 taxes flying Virgin (after 03/03/2016) Via Sydney as no direct flights anymore from Adelaide after 03/03/2016
          • Adelaide – Los Angeles return economy, 94000 points + $188.31 taxes flying Virgin
          • Adelaide – Maldives return economy, 90000 points + $145 taxes flying Singapore Airlines
          • Adelaide – Abu Dhabi return economy, 94000 points + $145 taxes flying Etihad
          • Adelaide – Any main European city – one way economy – 62500 points + $87.83 taxes
          • Adelaide – Los Angeles one way business, 94000 points + $127.50 taxes flying Virgin
          Domestic:
          • Adelaide – Melbourne return economy, 13800 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Melbourne return business, 27600 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Sydney return economy, 21800 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Sydney return business, 43600 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Brisbane return economy, 21800 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Brisbane return business, 43600 points + $47 taxes
          • Adelaide – Perth return economy, 33800 points + $40 taxes
          • Adelaide – Perth return business, 67600 points + $40 taxes

This of course doesn't go into converting your points to Singapore Airlines and using their award chart, which is also quite generous.
