  • will this allow my desktop computer (which currently has no wireless connectivity), receive Wi-Fi?

  • Is this dual band?

      does that help? ;I dunno

      No, checked dlink website.

      • Thanks.

Plus $10.91 Shipping cost brings it up to $18.91

Pretty sure this "nano" product would be pretty cheap to ship.

Unfortunately i am not near a store.

    No deal.

    • Store locations listing here, if it helps.

        None near me.

Free or cheap postage would help.

Or I could buy 4 of a similar product delivered for the same price….

    I use this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201069398209

Cost me $2.62 on special (now $3.13 shipped), great Wireless-N speed for streaming, surprising range (better than my laptop in-built Intel Wireless-G), and it is smaller than the D-Link advertised here so remains plugged into my laptop fulltime.

    • With those $3+ ebay jobs, at least you know what chip you are getting. D-link don't say, so its a lucky dip.
You cannot even google it easily, because MSY does not say which revision it is. Not the latest though, from the shape.

D-link can totally change the insides, without changing the model number. So your WD media player manual might say it is compatible, but be outdated.

      • Any idea if that works for MAC's? The listing only mentions Windows

        • eh? It has a MAC of course.
oh, a Mac - OSX does not have proper support for USB wifi like Windows and Linux do, though I read it can be done. You should do some reading.
          Is this for a hackintosh?

        • @manic: Thanks. Just for an old macbook only with wireless g that's pretty poor. So the wife can chromecast things like Channel 7 & 9 catch up TV.

    • I think, your link is for the same item. from China they are around $3 or $5 for Australian stock.

  • Would be handy for the wdtv.

  • What are nano adaptors like in general? Do they have any range?

Bought newer model from FUTU with 20% off deal last week for $18 delivered.

Better looking one but same specs as this one.

Chipset should be supported with my old Macbook with OSX 10.10 Yosemite.

    Couldn't fix internal Airport card.

    • MSY pic is outdated, they only sell the same newer model. You got literally ripped apart by Futu (They always are 20-30% more expensive then MSY on smaller items)

Even ShoppingExpress were selling them for $10 and in trifecta deals for even cheaper. No way you should pay $18-$20 for these.

      • Well, since aDaMoVEC got it delivered, his deal works out cheaper.

        • If they sell the new revision E for $8 pickup, I could save 10 bucks, but from the other side it wouldn't save me a trip to pick it up.

Bought it just for the design.

Radius at the edges is similar to Macbook ones.

        • Just pricebeat at Officeworks as he is in Sydney :P

        • @regenade: The old picture may cause issues with an OW pricematch.

  • Does anyone know if the drivers for this is included in the same USB dongle, or do you need to use a CD drive to read it, like a peasant?

    • CD drive? What is that, some kind of ancient Sumerian technology?

The most recent drivers are here. Choose one that fits the hardware revision (A, B or E). The revision number is usually printed on the box / packaging.
      http://support.dlink.com.au/download/download.aspx?product=D…

Usually drivers are given on a disc but it's always out of date anyway.

      • Yeah, but this is a networking device. Shouldn't Windows be able to install the drivers automatically when you plug it in, instead of having to download it again? How would Windows download it if the very networking device it needs to use is not recognised?

        • if you already having internet, then you using cable connected from computer to a router, modem.

          Option 1:

Best is plug the USB wifi card when you are connected to the internet via cable, and if you have at least Windows Vista or newer, driver will install automatically.

          Option 2:

If you don't have access to internet then i'm sure d-link will include CD with the drivers, but those drivers would be most probably few months even years old. Update is more than recommended in this case.

          Option 3:

If you have access to the internet from different PC/notebook, visit D-Link DWA-131 Drivers
Download latest driver and copy it to a USB flashdrive, then install wherever you need.

        • @aDaMoVEC:

Am I the only one who thinks this is a stupid thing?? Some printers don't even need drivers anymore. What's so difficult about putting in a bit of flash memory into this thing and have the drivers on the thing itself?? You would've thought it's a simple thing. Most of the times you plug in a networking device, it's because YOU HAVE NO NETWORK CONNECTION AVAILABLE.

          Okay, rant over.

  • Anyone here who bought it and can confirm it was the newest Revision E

    Thanks

  • Dropped in at my local MSY on the way passed and they virtually laughed at me asking for it for $8. Faaaark they can be rude.
    When did this end?
