The regular fare for a direct full-service airline (Emirates, Qantas, Thai) is generally mid-$800. Emirates a week ago for a November departure was $872. So not a knock-em-dead price, but a good one.

Edit: I should have qualified this by saying this is for booking direct with the airline. There are cheaper deals out there, but I personally try to stay away from online travel agents. Once bitten and all that…

This is not the best deal. I bought ticket last 2 months for $590. This seems normal fare.

It took me a while, but I finally got the reference.

    • What period did you purchase for?

      Emirates?

Where did u book an Emirates SYD - BKK return for $590? Don't think I've ever seen a fare that low. You'd be doing well to get on Air Asia X via KUL for that.

As I said, $799 is not fantastic, but it's a pretty good fare. Their regular fare is $872, maybe $20 or $30 less if you want to deal with an online travel agent.

(<sigh> second deal I've ever posted, and the second time the first responder has shot me down.)

I chose to fly with Qantas for departing and Emirate for return, either you pick Emirates or Qantas they are codeshare flights. I would have paid $570 if I didn't use AMEX. Screenshot said it all. http://i.imgur.com/GLsq05W.png

OK, that was a late-April departure. Booked on 'Bestjet' by the looks of it. (I'll keep an eye on them.) Thx.

How far in advance did you book that?

Edit: (ooohh, just had a quick search on their name - lots of pretty awful "warning stay away!!" type reviews. Glad it worked out for you.)

          @moojar:

I've been used their services for 3 years. Travel 3-4 times a year and they have no hidden fee likes others ie skyscanner, kayak or whatsoever. They are great from my experience. I've never had any problem at all.
          Cheaper here. http://i.imgur.com/NV5522t.png

        • @cminez:

Yeah, still with the same mob, $719. I choose to heed the warnings of others on them, especially for the sake of an $80 difference. But that decision is up to the individual of course.

The $590 for April travel would have tempted me. :-)

    • that's almost as good as Expedia BR Quantas deal. RTN ticket to BKK for 2 was around $1100 mark. Good old days…..

      • Those certainly were good old days……..and $A1 was tickling 31 baht.

  • Cheaper prices with Thai

    • +1

From SYD? Thai was $805 last time I looked, including a "50th anniversary" $50 discount. But I hesitate to book on a Thai airline atm, the country's aviation industry has failed an ICAO audit, the US FAA will be doing their own audit this month. Japan and Sth Korea are already restricting Thailand airlines.

      • Yes from Sydney and price was variable by date. Qantas also has $763 direct fares and via singapore for $769, Emirate $765 etc. Other full service are also cheaper with a stopover

        • Who did you book thru?

      • WOW! Interesting info on Thai. Thanks to your tip off @moojar, I googled it. I suspect that Emirates would be one of the safest airlines in the world as they seem to employ foreign crews and pay well, and so would have the 'pick of the crop' worldwide. Sadly the deal hunter in me sways me towards AirAsia's mega sale deals.

        • Haha, I am flying up on Cebu Pacific later in the year, coming back on Air Asia. I have to overnight at MNL, but the deal hunter in me wouldn't have it any other way! :-p Am becoming familiar with the 'sleeping in airports' website. :-)

Found out about the CP special on this site actually - so thank-you to whomever that was that posted it. Was a $99 one-way to MNL special. MNL - BKK is costing me around $65, and Air Asia $250 to come home from BKK (DMK). Had to actually pay for a few extras to get the Air Asia fare over $250 so that my CC travel insurance would kick in. :-D

        • @moojar: You have done very well. I was happy with Syd - Mnl - Bkk with CebP. $213. It is great to know that all terminal fees etc are now included in their tickets. 4 hour connection time at Mnl should be enough leeway.

For the cheapest Emirates bookings from Sydney it seems that you need to take at least one leg on Qantas equipment. Not that there is anything wrong with that. 'Personally' I find EK more comfortable, but the food on Qantas consistently better. I find the Thai seats less comfortable out of the 3. EK lounge is the best!!
