You love storage devices. Don't you TA.

    • It's the tight insertion that gets him hot :-)

        Everyone loves the insertion

      Nice to meet you Dan.

oh wow they raised it to $11.46 from $9.97

  • Great deal. Thank you very much.

same price in post office too..

  • +3

I saw this today @ Aust Post for the same price. I guess that's why OW matched it.

    • +2

Thanks for this. I'll add it to the post :)

  • Bought this from OW last week for around $18. I was in a hurry. I suppose the OzBargain thing to do is to buy 3 and put them in the draw.

That's a shame. Never buy USB drives from brick and mortar stores. Ebay is the best place, because the prices are so low.

      • +3

Depending on the seller though you could get a fake. If you go Ebay then go a registered business that is known.

        • +3

Agreed. I don't like to buy SD cards or Flash Drives off ebay or any online store I haven't heard good things about. Any way it was 7pm in my regional city and I needed a flash drive to create a bootable Win 7 installer. It worked fine for the job.

Just a word of warning, the write speed on these is max 10MB/sec I have a 64Gb one and it takes forever to transfer a lot of data to it. It does read at ~USB3 speeds however.

    • +2

I have a whole bunch of flash drives from different years. I recently did some benchmarking and found really disapointing write speeds with the lot of them. The fastest of them can barely hit 9MB/s writes. The slowest clocking in at 1.6MB/s.

Now, these USB drives are either freebies or dirt cheap when I bought them. If I wanted better performance - speeds - what should I look for? I mean, they're all pretty much labeled the same! In recent years, USB3.0 support is the latest thing they put on, but you still get slow writes. I mean, is there a way of telling if a particular make/model of USB drive is going to be fast without having to research it's benchmarks online prior to buying it?

Look at Sandisk extreme USB 3 range. The 64gb model can reach 200MB/s

      • +3

Well you can't go wrong with Sandisk Extreme or Pro, Corsair GT/R and Patriot Supersonic Magnum. Buy one of those and you won't be disappointed.

        • +1

          Corsair GT/R

speed wise no.. reliability wise.. then yes :(

      • +3

"If I wanted better performance - speeds - what should I look for?"

Look for SLC flash drives. The vast majority of flash drives are either MLC or TLC with horrible write speed and abysmal write endurance/reliability. I keep my data on MX-ES drives http://www.mx-technology.com/en/product/flash2.php?sid=38 which indeed write at 200MB/s.

        Please compare write cycle endurance:
        SLC - 100000
        MLC - 10000
        TLC - 3000
But that goes for SSD NAND flash. I hear that USB flash drives are made with B-grade TLC with as low as 200 write-cycle endurance. No wonder your data tends to disappear from this type of storage.

The first Kogan 32GB flash drive (in aluminium case) was a SLC with 100MB/s write speed, but this model is no longer available.

This may be the cheapest price, but just know you can pay $1.50 extra and get it delivered to your door from a number of eBay sellers. Save petrol/transport costs. :D

    • It may be more convenient now, but I wonder what their after-sales service is like?

      • They're USB storage devices. It's highly unlikely you'll need to return it or repair it.

Thx for the eBay link. Fred delivery makes it all too easy. Cheers

      • How much does it cost with Fred delivery?

For an extra $1.95, The Sandisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 16GB provides better Read and Write speeds.

    Sandisk Ultra Fit

Sandisk must have improved Ultra Fit recently, mine writes only 28MB/s.

    • interesting that 100 upvotes have been given for this poor performing USB drive, and as you say for a tiny little bit extra you get a much better drive!

  • Not the fastest USB3.0 in market. Pay few bucks more and get better USB.
