Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card - 0% for 24 Month Balance Transfer Offer

70

Longest 0% Balance Transfer Offer in Market at 24 months plus (No balance transfer fees)

Transfer your credit card debt from up to 3 non-Westpac Australian issued credit, charge or store cards. These include credit cards from CBA, Bankwest, St George Group, Citi, AMEX, ANZ, GE Money, HSBC, Virgin and all small banks and Credit Unions. Then pay 0% p.a. on any amount you successfully transfer for 24 months.

This is a great way to reduce interest payments and work on a plan to pay down your debt. A transfer makes sense if you currently holding a balance and paying high interest on it. Think about the interest savings. Many credit cards are hard to pay off, especially when the balances get high, as the interest seems to eat into the payments. This way, when you make payments they can go directly off your debt, rather than going towards the interest. Many people struggle to pay their credit card debt down and are continually providing the banks with high interest payments.

You need a minimum income of $30,000 a year and good credit to apply.

Don't know what a balance transfer is?

  • What about annual fees? Isn't the platinum card about $500/year?

  • aint Citibank offering 24 months as well

    yes they are:
    http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/cards_platinum.h…

    • Citi one has higher annual fee. $199

      • yeh true, with no balance transfer fee.

pretty sure you can just ask for these to be waived though. especially the balance transfer fee.

Also Citi you can get a cheque to self. not sure about westpac

        • Not sure that Citi would waive the BT fee as they just introduced - it's worth a try though.

        • @rbleyer: they did for me. but im existing customer. but yeh- not 100% sure. can just try I spose

        • @edwinlin88: Yeah - banks can be flexible - it doesn't hurt to ask or you never get.

    • Citibank has a 2.5% balance transfer fee attached to its balance transfer. Many people may have Citi related debt from Virgin, BOQ, naturally Citi themselves and other banks that they issue for. This debt can be transferred to this offer, subject to credit approval

    • +4

Citi is 80% of the limit and Citi are a bitch, the head doesnt know what the arse is taking about.

  • Very good deal.
Just remember to cancel the credit cards you pay off when the balances are transferred or you'll end up in the same situation.

Variable purchase rate on this card is currently 20.24% p.a.

    • +2

And also remember that any balance you don't pay off reverts to the variable cash advance rate, which is currently 21.24% p.a.

Therefore you need to make sure you pay the balance off in full during the 24 months. Another option is to look to transfer out the debt again before the intro period is up to another bank, though this is subject to credit approval.

  • Sorry OP, off topic, but it's bugging me to no end.

At the bottom of the Westpac site it shows
    "take charges"
    "Proudly Supported By Westpac"

    WTF is take chargers?
Can't find it mentioned on Westpac site or Google.

    • lol - yeah its some new marketing campaign that Westpac have in the works - Take chargers ;)

  • Westpac wont give me a card coz Veda hate me :(

    • Join the club :( only 28 degree gave me a card…. everybody else hates me

    • Hard to get credit in AU if you don't have a good rating. I had 1 default years ago and then I couldn't even get long distance on my phone. You really need to be careful with your credit history and try not to stuff it up.

      • yeh Vodafone wont even give me a $50 RED SIM plan…
I think me trying to apply for it 3 times in 30 minutes also doesn't help… lol

      • My credit file is excellent and they still refuse !!!!

        • +2

That sux Tom - depends on your personal situation / income and expenses. Another point to be wary of is the amount of credit applications you make in a period of time. I suggest only making 2 applications maximum in a 6 month period. Many banks will automatically decline people, even with the best credit, income etc if they apply for more than 2 within 6 months. They look credit hungry and makes the banks credit departments scared. Its also a good idea to get a free veda report before you apply just to make sure there are no problems.

  • There's also this site to check your score

    www.getcreditscore.com.au

They are a bit overloaded right now haha

    • Better to go to a site that you don't have to sign up to all their offers and "for them to use and disclose my personal information for business and marketing purposes". Try this place:
      http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/home/free-credit-file.dot

      • Yeah - I just used this myself and had the report emailed to me - took around 5 days and at no cost.

      • They state:

        It's confidential
The personal information you provide is only shared with Veda and no one else. Ever.

I performed a check about 12 months ago, no extra spam from anyone postal or email.

OP. Add this to your post please. And DO NOT provide any general/personal advice as I can see you are Associated. Factual information ONLY.

    Why neg? Uncool.

I am not from Westpac - helping people out is what the world is all about. I am not giving advice, just suggestions from my 11 years experience in credit cards. Thanks for caring, what suggests can you offer? If you have some good points for people, its always welcomed I'm sure.

I like your deal, because I think it's a deal.

But ticking the "Associated" box, I would assume you are directly or indirectly linked to Westpac?

Not stirring anything, but trying cover your butt. Bet me, ASIC has a different opinion to you on what is considered as an advice.

"That sux Tom - depends on your personal situation / income and expenses. Another point to be wary of is the amount of credit applications you make in a period of time. This is at least a general advice, if not a personal one.

Perhaps quoting your own Aust Credit License somewhere down the buttom would be helpful?

I can see the deal has made reference to creditcard.com.au, so creditcard.com.au would get a referral fee for applications through the link provided. Whilst I still think this is a good deal, but I believe retail consumers are entitle to transparent deals.

The link contains "promoCode=WAAT3", I have tried replacing the code WAAT3 with other codes and it's still valid. So… perhaps more detail?

Okay. My apology. The WAAT3 still comes up after clicking on apply now. Looks like its linked to creditcard.com.au

Is it correct to make the assumption that you are indirectly associated with Westpac through creditcard.com.au?

So… is this where your 11 years credit card product came from?

Newly registered to ozbargain and posting a credit product referral deal… logic tells me that you are more than just being nice and willing to share.

I am happy to make a referral to ASIC for potential Aust Credit License requirement breaches on advertising a consumer credit product.

Sorry I can't answer your posts fast enough

          @rbleyer:

All good, buddy. Sorry. Sounded harsh.

Seem too many bad apples around.

I think retail consumer is always the first priority over big business and deserves more attention from a consumer protection perspective.

As I have emphasised. I still think it's a good deal.

        • @googleyahoo69: I hear you and totally agree - Consumers need to be number 1 - Banks have shareholders - shareholders demand profits and it just goes on and on. I am working on a very bold plan that will mix things up, will send me broke but it will deliver for the consumer like a other site ever has.

    Worth Noting:

You don’t make any purchases on your card until the promotional period ends or the balance transfer is paid in full
You only make minimum repayments on your card in the first 24 months
The interest rate applying to your non-Westpac credit card will not change
You don't pay your card off in full each month
The minimum monthly repayment will be paid by the statement due date each month. The minimum repayment on your credit card is whichever is greater of: 2% of your total balance, or $10, or the amount of outstanding government and interest charges
No cash advance transactions are made
Excludes any fees that may apply to either card, including annual fees and when they are charged.

Hi Smiles - this is the balance transfer calculator assumptions

  • Associated is correct - that is why I selected it - the offer is exclusive to CreditCard.com.au - AKA you cannot get it through Westpac directly or anyone else - you need to use the link provided or apply through creditcard.com.au - that's it. This is also stated on the Westpac landing page and in the terms.

PromoCode's are critical for Westpac application tracking and giving the offer - if the correct PromoCode is not attached to the application you won't get the offer, just the standard Westpac Altitude Platinum that you can get from the Westpac site directly right now. I know you are trying to help and I'm all for that but messing with the promo code is not the answer.

    Here you go:
The CreditCard.com.au is operated by Credit World Ltd ABN 11 128 435 861, Australian Credit Licence Number 397589, Credit Ombudsman Service Number M0008295. Please refer to our credit guide for more information located at www.creditcard.com.au

On applying for credit frequency - what are you tips? I think this is a good general rule to apply. No one ever knows how banks score credit applications, they naturally keep this a secret. The point also is that is it a moving field, aka they mix up scoring all the time. Bottom line if you are seen as credit hungry it is not a good sign and something I have seen can be a real problem, though again this changes so its not the bible. Some banks may not care if you apply for 6 credit items in a day and all banks vary.

GoogleYahoo69 - if that is your real name ;) - hit me up with anything else. Best of luck everyone out there with their credit applications and minimising fees and interest. Its always makes sense to shop around and definitely check all terms and conditions before applying for credit offers.

      Yes and no.

Credit reporting is now both positive and negative reporting, oppose to traditionally only report on bad credit. Whilst the number of applications would have an impact on the applicant, it's not as bad as how people has exaggerated to be. Credit assessment (manual) looks at the whole profile and will reflect the current liability (active credit) as well what the applicant has applied in the past 3 (maybe 5, cant remember) years.

All banks are different based on their credit assessment model.

      • Good points - thanks for sharing - as stated yes all banks are different and its a moving line, what was 1 day could be different the next.

I have a better deal, that's called "not getting into debt!"

  • Where does it say $0 annual fee? Can't find a fee stated anywhere

  • That's just on the Citi Simplicity offer - https://www.creditcard.com.au/citi-simplicity-no-annual-fee/ - no annual fee for life and 0% for 12 months. With the Westpac offer you pay $150 annual fee.

  • This offer has been extended now until the 30th September. Good luck with your application if you apply.
