    $7.5k min spend is wild.

    • +27

The enshittification of Bankwest deepens further. Their "new and improved" app is complete garbage. It went from quite functional to complete dogshit.

      • +4

Agreed. The new app is definitely dogshit!

      • +4

Agree. They spent all that money to make it worse. It’s crap to navigate now

      • +5

Agreed. They have ruined the app and their website isn't any better either.

      • +2

Make sure you share this on the app review.

Its diabolically such a bad design, and I assume new codebase that they couldn't revert if they wanted to. Will take years to fix.

Execs high fives all round and bonuses for sure for a 'successful' app release.

      • +2

They also closed all their branches.

    • +7

Yeah this seems like a terrible deal for 60k QFF.

    • Esp when the min credit limit is $3k

    • +5

What's wilder is the other card (Bankwest Qantas Platinum or World Mastercard customers).

For a limited time with a new Qantas World Mastercard, spend $35,000 on eligible purchases within the first five months and keep your card open for 15 months!!

  • +7

    $7.5k lmao pass

    • +3

For only 60k points too…. who do they think they are. Not to mention the pathetic earn rate 0.6pts per dollar.

  • +2

I remember about 15 years ago Bankwest seemed to be really making inroads on the big 4 and they were terrific. I'm not sure what's happened but they've gone way off my radar for a long time. CBA must have pulled back on promoting them.

  • +2

This is a terrible deal for the spend to points. So many better options like NAB.

    • +1

Not when you have exhausted all other cards.

Is there a post about all the available qantas points cards?

  • +2

fee:points ratio is just ok, but the 7.5k spending is crazy

  • +4

And the World card is shocking: spend $35,000 to get 100k points

  • +4

Yes its 7.5k spend in 90 days is way too high, and its regular earn rate is pitiful, but it does at least offer a lower annual fee than most and it's no foreign exchange fees is a good benefit.

I'm only giving it a upvote as I think its mostly a neutral offering with some benefits, particularly people who do a lot of foreign exchange purchases. For a lot of people it probably doesn't work out but I do see it being a positive for some.

    • +3

Hah yeh tough crowd! It's not for everyone but if you were going to spend $7.5k on foreign purchases anyway or going on holidays, it's a great card.

For example I will be going on a safari later this year. The safari costs alone not including flights etc will cost $8k for 2 people. I have a few options:

      1. Use fee free debit card - no fees but no credit card fraud protection, no travel insurance, no points

      2. Use a regular credit card - 3% FX fee ($240 on $8k) + annual fee but with insurance + CC protection

      3. Use this card - $199 annual fee (cheaper than FX fee of normal card) + 60,000 QFF pts, travel insurance, CC protection etc.

      • Out of curiosity, is there an option of a card which gives you both points and no foreign exchange (FX) fee? - best of both worlds.

I assume there may not be a good product out there, as if there was, you would have been onto it already.

        • Only the BankWest and CBA credit cards. No FX with points earn is pretty unique proposition in Aus. Unfortunately I’ve already applied for CBA recently and 18 months exclusion period.

  • +1

no deal, may this offer die and never return

  • +3

This card was not a good deal back then (40k QFF for $160AF and $3K spend) and Bankwest has managed to make it even worse. And be aware the bonus points are only paid after 5 months, even if the spend requirement was met earlier.

Undoubtedly useful for those going overseas (and paying hotels, meals and activities on this card) but not really a great card domestically.

  • +2

Don't understand the hate, it is just a product on the credit card market that isn't for everyone. Great deal if you are travelling overseas within 90 days of approval. Would never use this card domestically of course, aside from pre-booking overseas travel costs.

  • +3

Agreeing with some of the comments here. Sure it's not an amazing deal if you look at it in a bubble, but given that the exclusion periods of other cards out there have gotten so much longer, there are really no other options for churning.

I've not applied for this card before, but might apply for I go overseas at the end of the year, thanks OP.

    • +2

Yeah I am a serial churner - probably 12 cards or so in last 2 years so have already done the high value cards and pretty limited in options now. This one works really well for me as I have a big ($$) overseas trip later this year.

  • +4

$7.5k 90 days minimum spend is bugger all after groceries and childcare fees. Thank you op, it's possibly amongst the best of what's available atm for churning

    • Glad somebody found it useful!

      • +1

Thanks OP, also works for me because I am a 'lucky' one who can pay childcare and rent using credit card… hit $7500 in 1.5 months without trying…

        • That citibank premier one with $8k spend should be a breeze too then lol.

          • @vawiyoci: It was… unfortunately.

My challenge is usually "next level", because I often apply for two credit cards in one go for my wife and I.

The combined Minimum spend becomes something like $15k in 90 days.

It was even more challenging when churn cooldown was 12 months so I was churning 6 cards per person per year (12 cards per year needing to hit min spend). It was challenging but the points balance at the end was the most beautiful thing. Very rewarding with First class Emirates flight from SIN-MEL.

Well… Was good while it lasted :D

    • Are you not getting the full 80-90% rebates for your childcare fees? Or multiple toddlers atm?

      • My childcare cost for 1 child is $110 after rebate… still adds up to at least $2000+ per month

  • -1

    Crazy bank

  • I don’t mind the $7.5k spend. The more frustrating term is the 5 month wait for points to issue.

    • -1

I hope we can close the card while waiting for the points to arrive?

Otherwise this will be a horrible deal because of the time in the game

  • +1

its only good if you have a big purchase coming up otherwise 7.5k is insane for 60k points

  • +5

I had to resort to Bankwest because of the long waiting periods but when I signed up a couple months ago, they were only offering like 30k points for like $3-4k spend (I don't exactly remember) ….so this is a step up in my eyes.

    • +1

I agree - Lots of complaints about the increased spend requirement, but realistically, if you're not hitting $2.5k/month on your credit card, should you have a credit card at all?

  • -1

What! 75k spending to qualify for only 60k points? That’s ridiculous……

  • +3

Do not get all the hate.

Any serious churner will have burned through all the better alternatives and be waiting out their 18-24 month exclusion period for them.

    It's better than nothing.

  • I’m with Bankwest and they’re dropping the Qantas Mastercard in September. I wonder if this will stop too.

  • -3

Yet no one mentions that most places charge a surcharge when using a credit card, basically cancelling out the points earned.

If there was no surcharges across the board, it would be much more viable to make all purchases on card (like it use to be 20+ odd years ago)
