Just be aware of the size:

    Dimensions (W x D x H):
    400x450x320 mm/ 420x493x460 mm

    Weight:
    23.8/ 29 kg

    • A printer you'll use on a desk with plenty of space.

  • It's a good printers

  • Probably not the best choice when you consider toner prices

    • yes, typically the cheaper the printer, the higher the consumables cost.
You need to look at cost per page, then work out total spend across say 3-5 years expected life (need to guess number of pages printed per month/year)

    • Probably not the best choice when you consider toner prices

You can refill the toners for under $50 for all four.

$100 for 1000 colour pages works out to 10c a page.
Toner doesn't dry out and this has a three year warranty.
It's networkable so you can place it anywhere in the house and it only uses a few watts on standby.

I would suggest that this is a pretty good choice for most users.

I have the younger sibling to this printer the SPC240DN bought on the eStore promo (last year?).
This is an excellent printer that has functioned faultlessly, but it's physically very big and imposing on my desk.
I have been pricing toner refills as the starter black has now run out.
        Best value option I can find is for 4 x 100gm (CMYK x 2000 pages @ 5% coverage) @ $84 delivered from USA
Larger quantities make each recharge much more cost-effective due to the higher postage cost, but who needs that much toner?
Lowest local cost I could find for a single black recharge was $40 delivered.
Lowest SPC250 toner refills seem to be $20/colour from USA.
Please give details of where to get a full set for $50 (maybe they have SPC240 toner too) as I'm sure that other OzB's who bought the SPC240DN are facing similar challenges and may benefit from this info.

        • Maybe we could get people who need toner together to buy at one go, then sort out local deliver (via Officeworks Mailman?). A fair bit of planning required but might be worth the effort. I've bought this printer, so when it's time for me to refill, I'll get in touch with you! :p

Here they are for $65 per set ($130 for two refills from the USA) - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-times-Ricoh-Aficio-SP-C250SF-SP… (AU$16.25 per refill)

They also sell them with two additional black refills for $30 dollars more - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-times-Ricoh-Aficio-SP-C250SF-SP… (AU$16 per refill)

Or three refills for $180 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250g-x-4-BULK-Toner-Refill-Ricoh-… (AU$15 per refill)

Or fifteen refills for $450 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-800g-BULK-Toner-Refill-Ricoh-Af… (AU $7.50 per refill + chip cost)

@Maverick-au: Nope, you said $50/set not $60 and have to buy 3 sets.
I already know about (and quoted above) the AAAToner ebay items.
          So…three sets of refills for $180 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250g-x-4-BULK-Toner-Refill-Ricoh-… (AU$15 per refill)
That makes them $60 a set and you need to buy 3 sets, who is really going to consider that????

As for the 15 set pricing, the chips cost about as much again.

Please don't quote pricing that has unique factors that need to be considered so you don't mislead the less informed members.
If I didn't know any better and on the basis of your 'advice' re: toner refill pricing, bought one of these I'd be very pissed with you once the toner started to run out and the truth became apparent.

          PS. beware their quantities….200gm = 2 refills, 250gms = 2-3 refills (not 3 Maverick), 800gm = 15 refills??? WTH who does their maths?

Do you want to be any more pedantic? $65 for two sets is not far off the $50 I mentioned and given the dollar has dropped since the last time I looked when they were under $60 a refill set.

That makes them $60 a set and you need to buy 3 sets, who is really going to consider that????

Someone who prints more than 1200 pages perhaps or prints with a lot of colour. Or feel free to resell what you don't need. Plenty of options.

Please don't quote pricing that has unique factors that need to be considered so you don't mislead the less informed members.

Don't tell me what I can and can't quote. I posted the information, it was a few dollars more but apart from you who cares. The fact is that toner refills are available for around $60 for a set if you purchase two refills.

The cartridges take around 80-90 grams of toner so how about you do the maths. The 15 refill one is actually 1200 grams of toner not 800 grams as you claimed. If you're going to have a go at someone who took the time to post and do calculations at least know what you're talking about first.

@Maverick-au: Let me clear the air here, this wasn't an attempt to create a big blue over semantics…..nor an attempt to piss on your parade as it were.
I was just saying that you need to be more transparent with the pricing if it's not straightforward (i.e. must buy 3 lots to get X price) or members will tend to be mislead.

As for the amount of toner they take for a recharge, it depends who you get your information from.
The widely accepted amount of toner req'd for a std. 2000 page @ 5% refill in this class of Ricoh lasers is 100gm. Even the listings you linked give that i.e. your first link.
The issue with the math is the sellers ref. to varying amounts of fills per multiple of 100gm for the bigger qty. packs.
For the record your link quite clearly reads 4-800gm just as (and in the same position as) the previous link says 250g x 4, my mistake - I presumed that whoever created the link was saying 4x 800gm in the same way they indicated the quantity of the prior listing. I apologise profusely for expecting some sort of continuity of method or a standard approach to providing details. My years of working with engineering, IT, laboratory & science professionals has set my expectations at a level that clearly can't be met by ebay sellers.
