In response to SE's Sandisk Deal, i spoke to the Amazon Rep who was happy to discount the SSD even further …. of course im joking. Original SanDisk sale post

Nice price from Amazon and even cheaper than SE deal. Historically Lowest price ever according to Camel X 3

Remember to use a 28 Degree's or Citibank credit card to get the Cheaper price. Total will be $61.45 and $98.83 respectively using their rates.

You also most probably will get it quicker from Amazon than AusPost Snail Mail.

Enjoy

      Anyway support Australia business ….

Agreed, but this is how we create competition on ozbargain

  • The site show USD, did you convert it yourself?

    • +1

      yes, already converted to aud

      • +3

So the final price may not be the same as $98.

        • +1

you should get ~ $98 using a 28 degree's card as described in OP

        • +1

          @easternculture:

So those don't have this card won't be able to get it as this price I reckon.

        • -3

          @superforever:

You will find that most ozbargainers have the 28 degree's card

        • +1

          @superforever: $102~103 dollars using Amazon Converter :P

        • +2

          @AznMitch:

Never use Amazon Converter. Choose to pay in AUD always

        • +5

@easternculture: we can't all get it though. remember it's against the rules to post targeted deals so you should have the price without the 28 Degree's card at least in the title then mention it in the bottom of the deal description.

        • +5

@easternculture: I don't have a 28 degrees card, so I use Amazon Currency Converter to give me AUD price (It's not optimal and I lose out around $2~$3). That said it's available for everyone and it should at least give people a baseline that everyone can get (if you have other means that grants you better price, you can go with that, otherwise, you can at least get that price).

That said, even at Amazon Currency Converter price, it's still a good deal. Thank you so much for sharing the deal (I'd wait until the prime day deal starts rolling out to see whether I can combine more things to it though).

I think you mean choose to pay in USD…

Bankwest Zero Platinum (and Gold) offer the same no international transaction fees, they follow whatever the pun listed MasterCard rates are. Oh how I miss the days of the high AUD :-(

        • -1
  • How many days to Oz do you think?

    • -1

my turn around is usually 2 - 4 days when i order from Amazon.

With AusPost, Interstate can take up to 7 days for me.

      And im in Sydney

      • +3

Amazon still use AusPost tho; 7 business days since ordering an SSD

      • +1

I'm also in Sydney and of fifty or so Amazon orders have never received anything in under seven business days using the two cheapest options.

Also have never waited longer than four business days with Auspost.

Got an Ultra II from the MSY deal yesterday, but I'll grab this too, for older machines!

EDIT: Saw this deal, before the deal it's referring to. Doh! A local deal unfortunately changes everything.

  • +2

Don't you just love competition. Nice find EC :)

    • +3

Hopefully SE can reduce the price further tomorrow. Do your thing TA

      • +11

I'm trying to get it reduced tonight!

        • Erhm.. does that mean I should hold off getting the 120GB ;)

        • +1

And maybe increase the quantity from the " only 500 units" :P

        • @CandyMan:

And ask the SE rep to include some Candy with the SSD

        • +1

          @easternculture:
          And some kidneys

        • +2

Im in for 120gb one if u can get a deal on that

  • +1

Wouldn't it be better to pay the extra $7 for Australian warranty?

    • -1

      Of course.

    • +2

Possibly… but if you had to return the Oz one then given its quite small you might have to cover that postage cost yourself.. whilst when I have returned things to Amazon in the USA or UK they have covered the return cost, they have also sent me replacements out in advance before receiving the faulty goods back. So Oz one might cost even more if warranty becomes and issue and might just be more hassle still.

All that said I would get the Oz one in this case :)

      • +3

been there done that, cost me $12 to return a faulty SSD to SE a few months ago. Got refunded in the end, but the exercise cost me $12 along with the hassle

        • -1

but after saying that, I still bought the $106 SE deal, as I'll get it delivered faster then Amazon and I need it asap.

    • +5

Just from a little Googling, failure rates for SSDs seem to be around 1.5%, or 1 in 66. So if you bought 66 drives with the added $7, you'd pay an extra $462 and expect to have to send 1 back. Personally, I'd just roll the dice and cop the postage to the US with those odds.

      • +6

        Nice. Nerdy education time!

In medicine, this statistic is known as 'NNT' or number needed to treat, and is really the most important, non alarmist statistic in day to day life. It means the number of people needing an intervention to avoid ONE outcome.

E.G., it might be scary to read something like 'eating KFC $1 fries increases your risk of cancer by 50%'

It could be a rare cancer - call it KFCarcinoma affecting, let's say, 1% not eating KFC, or 1.5% of people eating KFC fries.

If we take 200 people eating KFC fries - 3 people will develop KFCarcinoma.

If we take 200 people in the general population, 2 people will develop KFCarcinoma.

Therefore, the NNT is 200, 200 people must avoid eating KFC to save one person from developing KFCarcinoma.

Therefore, I am happy to take that risk!

        • I smell delicious!

      • +1

That's the same logic I use for dismissing Australian warranty every time.

      • Correct. Paying extra $ for a warranty is just lining the pockets of the seller in the long term.

This is why insurance is a very profitable industry.

This is why big companies "self-insure" (don't insure) themselves.

(waiting for the "Applecare has helped me in the past and will stick with them forever" comments)

    • I would say so. I bought a Toshiba Canvio USB HDD from Amazon and is now struggling with warranty. They asked to contact Toshiba. So good luck!

    • you mean for warrantears

  • does it fit an old laptop like Lenovo G460?

    • +1

      Yep not a worry there!

  • Great price! Dont need it and need to stop spending cash so wont bite.

    • +3

Thanks for letting us know, I was just thinking how you were going for cash.

  • this is quite humbling

  • +1

Amazon shipping always took around 2 weeks for me… (Shower head, beam projector, etc) AU Post around 3 days. (Brisbane)

  • Tomorrow there is a HUGE Amazon Prime sale! 20th Birthday sale.
Google 'Amazon July 15th' for details. :)

    • I cant see the SSD going less than $40 USD though, can you?

      • +1

Am pretty sure Amazon adjusts / refunds if price just drops the day after you bought it (you need to initiate a chat with rep of course). No personal experience with this but I'm sure I've read it on OB before…

But I'm with you, I don't expect it to get any cheaper for awhile.

        • Can confirm they will, have done it myself.

      • It's possible.

  • I just removed my old credit card and added an Amex card to my Amazon account and the final price is showing $73.04 for the 240GB drive. Have I done something wrong? It's not showing AUD anywhere so a little confused. When I had my old card, it would say AUD in the final price at the final step.

  • Would these work in a desktop too?
Also is there an easy way to figure out whether my motherboard supports SATA2 or SATA3?

    • Check the manufacturer spec.

  • Cheap cheap

  • Anyone getting this error message when checking out:

Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address

My shipping address is in VIC

  • @Eastern Culture: Remember to use a 28 Degree's or Citibank credit card to get the Cheaper price. Total will be $61.45 and $98.83 respectively using their rates.

Was it supposed to be Citibank's Debit card because I think that Citibank's Credit Card charges foreign currency conversion fees?

    • No if you use your Citibank plus account

      • With Citibank Plus Account, Citibank issues a debit card not a credit card. I have a Citibank Signature card and after talking to Citiphone service, I can confirm that Citibank's credit card definitely charges foreign currency conversion fees. So it has to be Citibank Debit card associated with Citibank Plus Account.

  • is it expired? comes at the price you mention but in USD

  • To buy from Amazon, make sure to click the xx used & new from $xx.xx on the right.

      • +1

Could you please explain why when I use your link the item can actually be delivered and when I go on the OP link it says "Sorry it cant be delivered to your address" ?
Thank you, I am not familiar with Amazon delivery to AU and I thought Amazon does not deliver to AU.
        Thanks

        • When you first go to the link the default supplier is someone like "Brooklyn Parkway"
          Who don't ship to Australia.
You have to change the supplier to "Amazon" who does ship here.
So you can click on " xx used & new from $xx.xx " as mentioned by Neil and choose supplier "Amazon.com"
          or goto tukanglistrik's link

  • does anyone know if these msata on the inside a full size case?

    • these are not msata. they're sata 2.5"

    • does that ever happen?

  • Can this be used to upgrade mbp 13" is it compatible?

    • Yes it should be. Post your MBP model number and one of us will check.

  • I get 4 week delivery??

    • It clearly states under the title:

Usually ships in 2 to 4 weeks

which is one thing that put me off buying.

      • Yes I know, but some mentioned getting it quicker than the SE deal. For $7 I'm not going to wait 4 weeks

  • Will this work on an old Toshiba Satellite Pro M300?

    • +1

They are just standard SATA connector, if your existing hard disk is SATA it will work.

The another thing you may need to consider is the thickness because some ultrabook need slim drive.
