  • Pretty sure retina is proprietary…

    • The iPad Air is using an IGZO screen which is actually better than Retina and so is this one.

    • Nah… I had two way before Apple was even founded.

      • You must be very old…

  • I wonder how the 4K recording on this is…

Hopefully this is not made in China using extremely toxic materials. No Asbestos inside ?

    • Most devices are made in China INCLUDING the iPad and iPhone ;)

Cube is a very well known brand in Asia for its high quality tablets. This tablet in particular has dual anti-rolling frames inside that protect the screen and motherboard. Providing a lot more protection that a lot of other devices. You definitely won't find asbestos inside this and I've never heard of a tablet with it.

  • OP July sale link doesnt work

    • Are you on mobile site? It's working fine for me.

      • Nope. shouldnt it work for desktops as well? :)

        • Works fine for me. On desktop

        • @rakkihizoku:

odd none of my browsers can view it. Cant see anything on my firewall blocking it either…
          vpning works.. wtf..

        • @smurfinaus:

I cant view it either with Chrome and I am using Kaspersky.

It has become customary for me to step in and warn folks about the problems I had with geekbuying. My own experience was so bad that I would never risk buying from them again.

My original problems stemmed from my attempt to purchase a Cube Talk 9X U65GT tablet (similar to this one) from geekbuying after this user ("I don't work for geekbuying", "I'm not associated with geekbuying", "I have friends at geekbuying", "we… oops, I mean they…", "I'm not associated", "ok, I'm kinda sorta associated", "I'm in marketing") posted a deal.

I did eventually receive the tablet from geekbuying, but it took forever and it was a sh1tfight. Never again.

The tablet itself? I hate it. It arrived with all kinds of junkware installed on it (think of the days when laptop sellers installed all kinds of garbage on computers and you had to format/re-install before it was useful). I spent a few days trying to get it to run android in a useful way, gave up, kicked it to the kerb and went back to my trusty old iPad2 running iOS 8.1 jailbroken. I don't even know where my Cube tablet is right now, I'm that over it. Even when it did run android (I tried the Cube official release, an MIUI port, and the Cube release again), it was slow, patchy. Touch screen doesn't work well, it uses a ton of power and takes forever to recharge, buttons are iffy and in the wrong place, micro-usb port is upside down and not deep enough, the shell is plastic and cruddy. It's just not a good bit of kit by any measure.

I'll keep making posts like this, 'cos I'm annoyed at geekbuying, I'm annoyed at the ozbargain user who keeps making these posts and I certainly don't want anyone else to get stuck with a garbage bit of kit like my 9X tablet.

    • How long roughly did it take to arrive?

So is the only real negative the bloatware? I'm currently waiting on a Teclast X98 air II to arrive but did research on it prior like knowing that it'll come with bloatware, new mods to install on it to meet my needs.

Should be plenty of support/tutorials on youtube/xda to assist you

      • +4

I paid extra for DHL, it took about two months to arrive. What geekbuying doesn't tell you is that they fluff around for literally weeks before they bother to send stuff. In my case, they gave the same tracking number to more than one customer in Sydney, so they could 'prove' to paypal that 'my' package had been delivered, but it was actually signed for by someone right up the other end of Sydney CBD, miles away from where I was. It took a LOT of tub thumping before I finally got what I paid for… (and then it turned out to be crap anyway! lol).

The tablet: no, bloatware (thanks, I couldn't think of the term!) is NOT the only negative. IMO, the 9X is a really cheaply made tablet. Sure, it might have some impressive specs, but it's not a very nice piece of kit to actually USE. It's a solid/heavy-ish tablet (good) with a cheap plastic back (bad), power button and microusb port that aren't so good and a touch screen that is really unresponsive. It becomes really clear, really quickly, why Apple tablets start at $500 apiece and these things are only $200.

Technically, you do get what you pay for, but if you had an ipad, you won't like this. Android phones are awesome, infinitely better than apple (you can do no better than an Xiaomi phone). I'm not convinced about android tablets though.

(oh, one of the 'selling points' was a "factory installed" screen protector. they didn't mention that the screen protector came with bubbles under it at no extra charge!)

      • Earlier Cube tablets had bloat and were of poorer quality, however that has been improved in these later models. Of course you're going to find a few apps that are in Chinese, but they're normally easily removed. The reviews on this tablet are far more promising than the 9X.

Every attempt I made to help you was ignored, or you immediately jumped into the attack. You even straight up said that the package never arrived on several occasions, but now you're saying it has?

      • Check the dates. The original package never arrived, that's an absolute fact. After much agitating, they finally sent another.

You've seen my review of the product. I suspect that they did to the tablet what Tyler Durden did to the clam chowder, but of course I can't prove it! ;-)

You absolutely insisted that you didn't work for geekbuying, aren't employed by geekbuying, ok maybe I am a bit associated, no I'm not associated. Why on earth should I trust a random stranger who can't make up his mind about his association with a company with personal information that is, frankly, none of a random stranger's business?

For someone who insisted for so long that was wasn't an associate, you sure leap to geekbuying's defense an awful lot.

Hoe much do you really earn as a geekbuying employee, [@Clear]?

        • I have always had an associated tag with the Geekbuying posts here. Not once have I said that I am not associated. I have only said I'm not an employee, which is different.

    • +1

And to properly clarify my relationship with Geekbuying. I was associated with an employee in the sense that I helped them post deals with something small in return. Those people I was associated with are no longer with Geekbuying and the new people I deal with do not have accounts here, so I'm the only person that posts. The Ozbargain staff told me to have the 3rd party Marketing tag to avoid confusion on whether or not I'm a Geekbuying Employee. I have told you before that if you think I'm lying about my association with Geekbuying then you should take it up with the mods.

So tl;dr… I post deals and like the other referrers here I get a little in return. Make sense?

      • -2

brb, just gonna check OzBargain rules on referrals…

Everything was cleared up with the mods before I posted anything here and it was all okay.

  • I have a question.
Im still pausing on buying a tablet and curiously had a look at the shipping. Two tablets over $200 AUD - each of them had rough estimate of around $55AUD for DHL, but TNT was $0 (same 3-5 delivery timeframe). <$200 DHL was about $58.11AUD but TNT around $8.92AUD. Can you advise as to the difference in delivery charge between DHL and TNT when timeframes are the same? (im a bit stumped)

    • It's all about the weight and items. DHL gets more expensive when you have more stuff and TNT gets cheaper when you have more. The shipping calculator in the cart just gives an estimate however.

      • Its just weird with the huge difference in price between between DHL and TNT

        • Yup. DHL do things a bit differently. Like they won't ship Xiaomi Powerbanks because they have li-ion batteries, but will happily ship phones and tablets…

  • I Just bought a Teclast 98X from them, no problem at all, very good product. takes about 10 days to arrive.

    • What shipping method did you pick?

      • any shipping other than registered post should take <10 days.

        • DHL and TNT being the fastest while EMS is slow because Auspost Express. Free shipping will take the longest if it's sent with nlpost, but that's usually only in China holidays when China Post is closed. SingPost is on about the same level as China Post.

    • Yep im curious as well :)

      • Shipping method: DHL Cost me $5.82 US dollar

I bought a cheap china phone from geekbuying that required warranty service. It took literally months to be returned, and some email chasing which was a little frustrating.
I get the impression they are 3 or 4 people handling the office admin side and effectively drop shipping items direct from warehouses.
This means when everything goes as planned you get your items fine, but when something out of the ordinary happens, they don't have good information or control of the process to sort it out.

As for comments on the quality of china electronics up thread. Well, in comparison to Apple products, most $200 china electronics are going to be lacking, but they are substantially cheaper. If service and quality are paramount, there is an Apple store in the CBD, but you will pay a premium. If you can evaluate the specs of a unit, mod the software and read reviews, china tablets/phones offer a lot of performance for the dollars, but with lesser service.

    • buying anything from overseas is a bit of lottery anyway..

    • You are pretty much spot on from what I've gathered. When items are of less value and are DOA/faulty, they will either refund you or send a new one after providing proof. Of course with more expensive products they ask that you send it back and I know how that can be a pain. Currently Geekbuying has a warehouse in China, Hong Kong, Spain, UK and the US. Most tablets/phones are shipped out from the Hong Kong warehouse to Australia, while accessories are shipped out from the China warehouse. The product descriptions will normally say that any other items will be shipped separately if that's the case.

I really hate it how people compare China products to iPad, iPhones etc in regards to quality. Too many people buy a $100 Samsung from Kmart and decide Android is crap compared to the $800 iPhone 6, but if they bought the $650 Samsung Galaxy S6 then they'd get an equal or better quality phone.

      • Out of curiousity you guys have stuff marked "HK Warehouse" etc now. Is there any real difference in time for delivery when choosing products from HK vs China warehouse? (heard china post is pretty…we no very very slow if choosing free shipping generally shipping).

        • The distance from Shenzhen to Australia and Hong Kong to Australia is only about 200km. There shouldn't be any real difference with the delivery time.

        • +1

@Clear: To be honest I always hear people complain about warranty or slow shipping etc. You are buying from china and paying very little for it. I bought a umi phone the other day for couple of hundred, not because I need a phone but I wanted another toy. I know it's probably gonna be shite and break or whatever but I am happy to take a gamble on that. If it turns out OK I may buy again. People need to get their expectations right. If you want warranty and amazing service, buy it from Harvey Norman. Wait a minute…….

        • @All Blacks NZ: Australia is very lucky to have strong consumer laws, but I think people forget that it's not the same in a lot of countries… especially China. Majority of people that complain about the shipping tend to forget that shipping time and processing time are 2 separate things.

  • The feedback from all is why I love ozb. (I check neg feedback before buying)
I have bought a couple to items from them in the last month and have had a good experience.
The dhl upgrade was very fast and cheap enough to worry if it was legit!
No idea on quality of this item, however will buy a ulefone touch 2 from them when available at 179.
Think companies need to know we just want a simple transaction. Pay then receive. (Lenovo are you listening)

    • Refer to this disassembly review. While it's not perfect, it does have a lot of good things that other tablets lack.

    |And to properly clarify my relationship with Geekbuying. I was associated with an employee|

    |Every attempt I made to help you was ignored|

If you are just posting the deal for them, Your help if any, must be extremely limited.

Tell your employee friend that because they have treated customer douglasb like that, Majority of ozbargainers will not do business with you. Full stop.

    • +1

Don't take it out of context. I was associated with an employee when their staff posted deals here. Their staff no longer post deals as those staff members have left Geekbuying. I am now a deal partner directly with the marketing team. Geekbuying, Gearbest, Banggood etc have 'deal partners' for various websites like Slickdeals, Freaktab and of course their reviewers which also post here. So the arrangement is like this: I find stuff that I think the community will like and negotiate a price with the marketing rep partnered with me (tightarse for example is doing this right now). In return I will get 1 thing a month. My Tronsmart Car charger deal for example. I got one for free as that deal went really well. The mods know this and ALOT of posters have similar arrangements with these sites.

As for how much I can help. I can tell my 'partner' the order number and the issue. She can then go to the customer service department directly with the issue and try to make it a priority. I've successfully resolved issues before, like getting replacements sent for DOA items etc. That's pretty much all I can do unfortunately.

As for douglasb. I had asked him several times for his order number so I could pass it on, but each time he refused and launched into the attack of how I'm a scammer. It's like going into Maccas and not getting the right food. You can politely let them know and they'll do what they can, or you can go in yelling and screaming and get kicked out. He has flat out ignored my every attempt to offer help, so as far as I'm concerned, he doesn't want it to be resolved.

      • I thought Tightarse has no association with any of the marketing reps? He just contacts them and negotiates deals for the community without any kind of rewards for it?

        • I only meant the part about negotiating a deal was the same. I was initially required by the mods to have an Associated tag to avoid a sockpuppeting ban as I kept posting Geekbuying deals. As my association changed from doing a favour to becoming a 'deal partner' my store association tag was changed accordingly. Also this makes you wonder ;)

        • @Clear: He have mentioned this, so at least I don't think he is a rep like you :P

        • +1

@AznMitch: Lol yeah I know he isn't a rep. More just wondering if he gets anything out of the deals beside the thrill ;)

      • I'm with coprocessor80087.

And the fact that you need to kick a case to try to make it priority shouts shit customer service by default.
        No thank you.

        • +2

I'm making the effort to help the community when they have issues. If people don't want me to try and help ontop of the normal channels of contact then I won't.

Support email may get 50 emails a day. Your issue is 45th in list. I contact my partner and arrange for it to be moved up in the cue, so it gets resolved faster. Is that crap service?
