Verano Cider Varieties 3 for $18 in store @ Dan Murphy's (Usual Price $21)

60

Sure this isn't the cheapest cider in the world, but it's probably the nicest cider I've ever tasted.

Not sure how much people know about cider but a lot of the cheap stuff is made from fermented corn syrup, which tastes pretty crappy once you've had stuff like this made with fresh pressed fruit.

Anyway, flavours in-store in Kotara yesterday arvo were:

Spanish Apple
Apple, Peach & Apricot
Apple & Pear
Apple, Mango & Passionfruit

Though I grabbed a lot of the Apple/pear and the mango/Passionfruit.

Sidra del Verano website

Dude at checkout said the discounted price is instore only but nationwide.

Hope it helps someone :)

Wow dont get much discount buying a case. $5.83 each in a case of 12, vs $6 each for 3. Save 17c (2.8%) each buying quadruple the qty.
Altho that makes this deal look better, for someone wanting to try it out and not commit $70.

    • Good point. Definitely worth trying. I'm going to checkout the one 'summutha' rec'd too. Ozbargain Cider society haha

I didnt realise a lot of cheaper ciders use corn - does that include popular brands like 5-Seeds etc ?

        • +1

Not sure about 5-Seeds. I had someone mention it to me, I did a quick google search and found this. It mentions strongbow. I actually emailed Verano because I wasn't too keen on the fermented corn syrup either. Verno got back to me and said it's made with only fresh pressed fruit. Food to know.

      haha debatable

      • I tried cider before and it taste soo sweet and didnt like it. Happy with VB :)

        • +3

Depends a hell of a lot on the type of cider - not all of them are sweet.

Agree with OP. This is my favourite cider at Dana. Well balanced and full bodied brew that actually tastes like apples.

    • Good to see I'm not alone. Definitely an amazing drink. Weird more people don't know about Verano. Every time we have friends over they love it.

    Kirin cider for me.

    • will check it out. Thanks

Yes Kirin cider is excellent, dry and crisp with a light fruit touch. It's not sweet and syrupy like most. Not cheap though.

I am intrigued by this cider however, as in a trip to Spain I visited a cideria in Basque Country where Verano is supposedly made, and tried the ciders on offer there. It was nothing like cider back home. The cider was in a massive barrel which had a tap that when opened would send the cider arcing across the room and you used your glass to catch from the bottom of the arc back up towards the tap to promote the bubbles and then drink it quite quickly before the bubbles died back as the Basque ciders aren't the heavily carbonated sort that we get here.

      • wow. That sounds awesome!
