Free 0.25g (~$12 AUD) in BitGold

1170

Seems to be another online currency - this one tied to the price of gold.

You get up to 0.25 grams of virtual gold on signup - which is about $12 AUD currently.

This might be a good way to get some exposure to gold.

While the deal is still on (and the link still works). They are now playing silly buggers with the amount you get and reclaiming inactive balances (where there has been no deposit). I'm going to mark as expired therefore.

Edit: Some updates

There have been some recent changes to the referral program - the amount received is now linked to the "Golden Heart level" score of the referrer and does not seem to depend on country anymore.

The exact details of these changes are outlined here.

Part 11 of the Bitgold Terms of Service deals with promotional balances, and may be worth a read also.

Things to note:

  • Everyone to date seems to have got their bonus regardless of making a deposit.

  • OzBargain user lolmao successfully withdrew 3g (~$125) to an Australian bank account.

  • If you have not made a deposit and then don't log in in any 60 day period, they will reclaim the bonus. Consider depositing $0.03 USD of bitcoin to get around this.

Other offers:

  • Free Birthday gold. This offer is for a free 0.0XXg gold where XX is your age. You get this automatically on your birthday. This promotion is still running as of Jan 3, 2016.

  • 5% first deposit bonus up to $100. I think you get an email with this offer shortly after joining. Mentioned in this tweet.

I've made a FYI blogger page that contains more general info about Bitgold (interviews, etc).

  • So what is the easiest way to withdraw this money. Or to use it to buy something online?

All my referrals are still Pending status at the moment

  • Easiest way without ID is to sell it to someone (on a forum perhaps) and transfer to them.

Else do a wire transfer (watch out for fees on the receiving side), or get the ATM card (2% fee and not in AUD currently) or get some gold (10g min + 25 redemption + postage & insurance costs)

another week and we are at the 2 month / 60 day pending threshold, gimme dat cash!

    • Will be patiently waiting…

  • +3

Promo gold just turned up :)

  • My promo gold just turned up too. I have one more pending but that referral came a few days later so to be expected!
I am soooo tempted to cash it out for bullion. Who wouldn't want some tiny bars of gold to have laying around the place!

    • +1

The bullion option is tempting but there is a $25 redemption fee plus postage fee.. think someone paid $44 for that. If you were redeeming multiple cubes at once it might make sense, otherwise just going down to the local coin shop would be better value.

      • ohhhh yeah i didn't read that far. Thanks for pointing it out! Visa gift card may be the way to go then…

      • Out of curiosity, how many referrals did you get? I know one came from me and i got a few from others but you must've smashed it! Completely understand if you don't want to share that info though.

        • Quite a few but they are all still pending for me. Still hopeful however.

Some are getting chargebacks as I guess some didn't log in for 60 days - so who knows what the final total will be.

        • @gringo:

Gave them a ring and they refreshed something and they started coming through. I think once you've been allocated the gold it is essentially yours - but will update after I have been able to withdraw.

  • I've got 1.5 grams of gold… Anyone interested?

    • If you signed up using my ref - yes.

      • Not sure if I used your referral link or not

        • PM your email that you signed up with.

        • @gringo:
You've got PM's disabled but the numbers in my username appear in my email address
          (gmail)

        • Don't see you unfortunately.

          btw: PM now enabled.

        • @gringo:
          No worries

Hi Guys. I am making an offer on BitGold as per my classified listing

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/212219

The gist of it is as follows…

    Hi All,

With everyone getting a bunch of promo BitGold, and not really being able to do much with it, I thought I would try to redeem some for one of those nifty gold cubes.
I only have 0.5g at the moment.

I am offering to swap 1 oz of physical silver (or cash equivalent at current silver spot price - silverprice.org - about A$21.39 per oz at time of writing) per 1g of BitGold
This is about 50% of the physical gold value.

    Payable as follows.

If you have at least 1g, then
    * 1 oz of physical silver (e.g. a coin or bar) for 1g of BitGold (min 1g, 0.5g increments)

If you want to offload some bitcoin you can also sent it to my BitGold account.

if less than 1g of BitGold (or your choice) then…

The equivalent cash payed by direct credit / paypal
Just quote the current spot price when contacting me (www.silverprice.org)
    OR

I will donate the equivalent cash to charity (my choice - amari.org.au) and I will add 50% to it.
(If you want your charity just go with the above option and you can do what you like with it).
    Hopefully this is a win/win.

pm me if interested. I will give you my email to send to BitGold to and will reimburse you as per your requested method

..and hopefully I can get enough gold to redeem a cube and make this exercise worthwhile!

    thanks

    • Hi All,

Due to lack of interest I am withdrawing this silver for gold offer, as it looks like I am unlikely to get enough to redeem a cube anyway.

P.S. Thanks for the down vote :)

  • I now have it as completed and no longer pending,
I have 3 referrals, $78 in my account

    now what? :D

  • Add a bank account and withdraw by wire?

    • I can't withdraw mine because I only have 1g and you must withdraw at least 1g but you cannot withdraw more than your entire account including the 1% withdrawal fee :@

      • Easy way would be to get another referral and wait.

They may even add Australian banking integration at some point?

Alternately, if you signed up using my ref you can PM me, or you can look into subscribers offer above.

      • Can you make a bitgold purchase to get it over the 1g then do a withdrawal?

        • Yep - 1% fee going in plus currency conversion tho.

bitcoin might be cheaper but costs involved in that also.

        • @gringo: Geez, there are fees everywhere! I can live with that last one though seeing as it was all free to being with!

        • @halfnhalf71:

Yeah it works out much more cost effective if you are in the US or Canada at the moment (if you are in the US it works like a linked savings account).

One thing they are better than usual with is that they don't charge a storage fee (not really relevant if you are withdrawing straight away).

Plus, for international remittances it is actually quite cheap. Cheaper than paypal anyway.

  • My account now says 0.25g on referral - I checked with another person and it also says 0.25g for them also. So I'm going to change the deal to reflect this.

It was good while it lasted - if anyone has joined with 0.5g don't forget to log in at least once in 60 days!

  • has anyone redeemed their gold using the bank transfer?
does anyone know if this works with australia banks?
does anyone know if there will be additional charges? (eg. it looks like banks charge fees to receive a wire transfer)

    • It will work with Australian banks but you may very well be stung for a receiving fee (bitgold does not charge for the sending fee I think).

I am not sure exactly where the currency conversion occurs either.

Best way really is to sell to someone else (e.g. on a forum).

  • has anyone redeemed their gold? it seems when you want to add a bank account you need to send through a copy of a bank statement. not sure if i trust that.

    • Personally I haven't yet. However they are obliged to do this because of US Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) legislation. Government issued photo ID also.

I don't believe adding a destination wire account "links" it in any way - but surely you have a lesser used bank account.

Alternately, you could request the Mastercard ATM card, but it is in USD and in beta atm (you need to get on a waiting list).

I've done my research and am satisfied it is a legit operation - but you can always just leave it there if you are uncertain.

  • I'm an idiot and forgot to log in within 60 days, yay!

  • FYI don't try to send bitgold back to someone who referred you. My plan was to withdraw the bitgold for someone I referred. When I tried to withdraw bitgold, the portion transferred from my referee got revoked for "Referral Abuse"

    • Interesting - and this only shows up on withdrawal? Wonder if you shunted it over to a further 3rd party acct the same thing would happen?

      • got an email

Please contact our support team [email protected] or visit our Support Center to resolve this issue. Insufficient Funds. One payment was reversed due to referral abuse

as well as in my account shows as a 0.5g deduction with note "Chargeback - Referral Abuse"

Perhaps going through a 3rd account would have worked.

  • +1

received my 3 grams withdrawal in my bank today (minus a $25 fee)

    • so about $125 net to you - pretty great outcome IMO

      • yep pretty good for not doing much :)

  • Signed up, seems like the prepaid credit card is down for now

    • They are relaunching the card with goldmoney branding.

people have been asking about it - it's still coming. Indications are the end of the week.

It looks a really handy card - equivalent to one of those travelex prepaid mastercards but with 1% fee (sale price of gold).

  • So anyone benefited from this or scammed?

    • It's legit! As long as you don't sign up your dog/pot-plant/fake details and jump through all the hoops you should get your bonus signup gold :)

    • Their share price has doubled in the last month.

The prepaid mastercard - is now also live and you can order it free if you have a balance of 1g.

You can get the card in a choice of three currencies (gbp, eur, usd) - making it fairly good to purchase off Amazon, etc or an excellent travel card.

    • I transferred mine 2.5 grams into my bank account (Westpac) and I've just received it! Happy days!

  • The referral amount of gold now varies between 0.01g and 0.25g, depending on the referrer's Golden Heart™ Quality Score, with no pending period - see http://bitgoldinc.tumblr.com/post/135197503450/update-golden… and http://support.bitgold.com/customer/en/portal/articles/22018…

So does anyone here have a 5 star quality score and want to share their referral link (via pm) with me please?

    • Sorry, I think the 'no pending period' may only apply to the referrer, not the one signing up for the first time.

      • Bummer - I haven't had any referrals since this change, so wasn't sure.

How much bonus did you get?

0.25g did clear straight away for me, but not sure what happens if you withdraw and there is a chargeback later on (they seem to do chargebacks whenever they like - even after 60 days I'd log in every so often).

PSA: The link in the Original Post is a 5 star link

        • So I got 0.25g, but pending 60 days etc. Good to hear that the 0.25g cleared straight away for you though!

(To clarify for others, I signed up with OPs referral.)
