Energy Australia - 18% off Electricity + 12% off Gas + $150 Credit [NSW Only]

160

Energy Australia deal works for both NEW and RECONTRACTING customers - NSW ONLY

For ELECTRICITY…
- 18% discount off the market usage rates when you pay on time
- Get $50 credit on your first electricity bill
- 1 year benefit term
- No exit fee

For GAS…
- 12% discount off the market usage rates when you pay on time
- Get $100 credit on your first bill
- 1 year benefit term
- No exit fees

Note the deal for Electricity does not apply if you have solar panels. I do and therefore only took up the Gas deal, I was already with EA on 12% discount for Gas but still got the $100 credit with a quick 5 minutes call to 133 466 :)

On the headline its a good deal, but what are the market rates like?

I know when I looked at the best deal here in VIC - you've got to consider the after-discount rates you're paying as the biggest headline % discount may also turn out to be the most expensive when you compare retailers with lower market rates and lower discount %.

Red Energy smashed Energy Australia on the overall bill for me, despite having a lower % discount.

    these guys stink, stay away.
massive internal problems with their billing etc

    • +1

i had a massive problem with Origin energy because their internal billing system had problems for over half a year. Mind you all my bills were direct debit. i am still sorting out but will definitely leave them after this BS.

    • +1

Yes same experience. Their customer support is polite but utterly useless and incompetent. They never sort out my simple request of changing address. Keep sending my bills to wrong places and asked me to pay on time. How am I suppose to pay the bill if you can't even get the postal address right. Stay away from them.

  • How does this discount compare to the dodo pay on time discount and rates schedule?

    • +1

I just did the sums for my new place

Dodo is better IF you dno't use a lot of power. Their bracket is up to 19kWh per day, after which point the price jumps a lot. My normal power bill is only 15kWh per day, but we are getting a larger place and with a pool, so it doesn't make sense to go with Dodo

Don't even bother for gas (at least for my area) - Energy Australia was way way way cheaper.

      • Thanks.

I did the sums as well, and with 13kw/h / day consumption Dodo was still cheaper. Combine that with the cost of leaving dodo ($50 de-energising fee)… think we will stay a little longer..

  • +1

Looks like there's no exit fees. So you'll get $100 credit on your first gas bill, then it's up to you what you want to do next.

not bad, but some of us got to 26% (elec) with AGL (NSW)

  • I got 25% with origin for 12 months.. rates were very close or lower than other providers..

Just told them I was moving to dodo… got a call a few days after with the offer..

    • u called up, waited 20min on hold, just to tell them was moving to dodo?

      • Actually, they called me to ask why I was moving after I requested a transfer with dodo

        • yeah hate how they value you only after you've had enough

  • Very confused with how Energy in general is priced, I am with Energy Australia and somehow it says 15% but im not sure how this is calculated as it doesnt quite add up.

So if i call up and an existing customer, how long is the contract for?

    • Usually they take the discount off before GST

      • Usually they take the discount off before GST

Is there any difference between discount before and after GST? ;)

        • Yes, the discounted amount is higher after GST

        • @marquise:
Just teasing, don't take it seriously. ^_^

BTW, GST can only be calculated on the final price. No calculations should be presented on a quote prior to this. Every power companies use the same GST rule given by ATO.

    • Well, takes the description above as an example

18% discount off the market usage rates when you pay on time

They tell you that there is an 18% discount off power usage, but intentional forget to tell that besides power usage there is a daily supply charge as well, and is not part of the discount. And you've a delusion 18% off usage rates means 18% off the whole bill.

Do you see any words mentioning daily supply charge in OP description?
Does this explains why your bill not quite add up?

You can compare different offers at https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/

Going through the process now to see if this is better value

Please check the unit pricing. Energy Australia unit pricing are higher than others. So its not necessary a good deal. Please go through all providers unit pricing.

All I've seen in NSW are IPART prices.

  • +2

Energy prices are not fixed across retailers, so the 18% off doesnt mean much.

A quick google of Energy Australia (ex Tru Energy) is not very favourable.

I was with them and found them expensive.

    I am now with Powershop.

  • +1

When I switched to Powershop, EnergyAustralia called up and offered a 30% disocunt

    • Man, we're talking about power in NSW, not VIC. Discount differs from state to state.

      • My point is, when you begin the process of leaving them they all of a sudden pull out this unbelievable discount that wasn't available before. But it's too late (for me anyway) when I've made the decision to switch.

  • Does anyone knows the cheapest company for electricity and gas ?
i felt sick with energy aust ..i lived in Melbourne 3075

  • Anybody knows how long this is valid for?

    • Until September 30

      • I think that's the deadline for the connection fee waiver offer.

"Plus, if you move with us on a standard connection, you'll pay no connection fees (offer excludes new meters, out of hours and urgent moves, and ends on 30th September 2015)."

  • Who owns energy Australia? answer on wikipedia, see the link.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EnergyAustralia

  • Guys,I'm with Energy Australia now.If I switching from them to Origin,do i need to pay anything for them to have the final meter read?

Is Origin will charge me the connection fee?

    Thanks

    • If all that you are doing is to switch retailer (EA to OE) and not moving home, then nothing will happen until the next meter is read. When the next meter is read by the wholesaler (for example, Ausgrid) then you will switch over to your new retailer. You cannot switch earlier than the date of the next meter read, although you can sign up with the new retailer now.

Remember that all new sign-up has cooling off period (I think this is 5 days) so if you want to switch over on the next meter read you need to sign up with your new retailer at least 5 business days before the next meter read. If the meter read happens during your cooling off period, nothing will happen. You will need to wait for the following meter read date.

  • I managed to get 16% discount through AGL with Solar (20c) Last month. No early termination fee…Not sure if my rates are the best, can anyone compare please…

    • 16% is AGL's best offer for solar. For non solar, you can get 18% discount. Not sure how AGL solar plan compare to other providers.
