Telstra $30 Prepaid SIM Starter Kit - $15 @ Dick Smith & Kmart

80

Again, not the cheapest these kits have gone for, but an option for those either wanting to switch to Telstra Prepaid, buy from the Google Play store at effectively 50% off (thanks to xhanatos for reminding me) or take advantage of the Credit Me2U Data Pass "glitch".

Kmart receipt

Harvey Norman also has the "Tablet" starter kit for $15.

  • What do you get with this?

I've been looking at Telstra Sim only plans and they're laughable.

Thank you. 50% off on google play credit!

    • +1

Oh yeah, that's what I'm using it for haha ;)

66%+ is better. I especially like 97% off.

        • what do you use so much google play credit on?

        • +2

@kima: App/Movie/TV sales. More recently: Hearthstone card packs (currently Credit ME2U transferring enough for the next expansion pre-sale next week).

        • @Lukian: thanks, ill go look what hearthstone is

        • @kima: Only a few dollars for apps. The rest is going towards data via the "glitch".

        • @PrinceHairy: I know the data glitch I want to know what people use the play credits on

hearthstone looks good and from blizzard but the reviews that come up tell of some pretty easy cheat, if you don't want to lose just hold the last card don't play and the players troll making you wait no time limit

        • @PrinceHairy: can you please clarify how this works? I've seen your other comment, and the wiki page but I'm still confused.
As a non-Telstra customer, how do I take advantage of this data glitch?

        • +1

@kima: There is a time limit, I've never seen someone use an exploit. Plus it's a casual game, which I play for fun, to me it doesn't even matter if such a thing exists.

        • @Lukian: ok great ill try that one. I wonder what some other great games are im a bit bored with the one I had.

@Lukian: Thanks Lukian your really nice :)

@therog1: Basically you have two SIM cards:

SIM #1 - Existing/new Telstra SIM on Data Pass plan (this is the SIM card that you will be using the data from)

SIM #2 - $30 Telstra Starter Kit activated on 'Freedom' Prepaid plan

          • Transfer $1 via Credit Me2U from SIM #2 to SIM #1, giving SIM #1 500MB.
            • Repeat this 24 times over 3 days (as there's a daily Credit Me2U limit of $10) to give SIM #1 a total of 12GB.
              • There is a charge of 25c per transfer, hence why the maximum number of transfers from one $30 kit is 24.
          • Recharge using a $50 Telstra voucher to give the 12GB a one year expiry (+5GB from the $50 voucher = total of 17GB).
          • (optional) Cancel SIM #2 via Telstra 24x7 Live Chat.

Repeat the transfer with a new Starter Kit if you want more data.

        • @PrinceHairy:

          Thanks

Can you credit m32u the $24 back to SIM #1? ;)

        • +1

@aldoduco: You mean back from SIM #1 to SIM #2? Unfortunately not, since the Data Pass plan doesn't allow Credit Me2U transfers. However, I just remembered that in addition to the 17GB you have on SIM #1, you'll also have a s**tload of credit to use on Google Play/etc. ($24 from the Credit Me2U transfers + $50 from the recharge voucher = $74).

        • @PrinceHairy: champion! Thanks for the info!
Should I get two of these sims, or get one of these for the freedom plan, and a $2 one for the data plan?

        • +2

@therog1: From Dick Smith/Kmart, I'd get one starter kit for the Freedom plan and from Woolworths, get one $2 SIM for the data plan and one $50 recharge at 10% off to "lock in" the quota for 12 months.

        • @PrinceHairy: Hat tip to you good sir! I will follow your instructions to the letter!
          Thanks for all the advice.

        • @PrinceHairy:
Wait, so you get google play credit separate from the data? That's insane!

So if I do this with 3x sims will I end up with 29GB(1yr validity) for $82(2+15+15+50) + $98 GP credit? Will equate to $6.8/2.41GB per mth.

If so that's wayyyy better that the Amaysim 10GB for $70 deal that's pops up occasionally.

        • @grab_ur_freebies: At the moment this is the case. Can't guarantee Telstra won't fix it soon though.

        • @PrinceHairy:

It's not an either/or: you do your 24 $1 transfers and still have $24 play store credit remaining.. Which can become $12 PayPal credit if you use my android app, or similar apps.

  • Thanks

  • In store at Dick for add $7.95 for delivery. No Click & Collect. Limited to one SIM per type, there's two Telstra $30 SIM types (effectively no difference).

  • can i use the Credits to shopping at google play when i go with data pass plan?how?thanks

  • Hi, i still dont understand why transfer $1 from sim2 then sim1 can auto get 500mb?

    • It's a glitch. It's not meant to give data (according to https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/mobile-broadband/prepai… - min is $10 for 1gb) but it is currently giving 500mb for $1 transfer. Unknown how long it will be working for. (A month or so already)

      • Great! Thanks!

      • Can you buy two of these $30 starters, and use one to transfer all of it over to the other, getting 15GB bonus data?

        • +1

If you activate a starter kit on the Data Pass plan, you get $30 credit and 3GB data. Then transferring one to the other, you get 12GB for a total of 15GB.

$15 for 12GB, $30 for 15GB. Up to you to decide whether an extra $15 for 3GB is worth it. Personally, I'd transfer both kits to an existing or $2 SIM for 24GB.

        • @PrinceHairy: Is there a 12GB cap per sim? Because my maths tells me 500MB x 30 = 15GB.

This 24GB will expire in a month right?

I get a feeling they will fix this 'bug' soon. I'd take advantage of it myself but I bought an Amaysim 12 month data plan a few weeks ago.

        • @lostn: You can only get 24x $1 transfers from a $30 kit (it costs 25c per transfer)

        • @PrinceHairy: Can you transfer it over to a broadband data plan? They have 5GB for 12 months for $50. Could you transfer 12GB onto that sim, and have 17GB that expires in 12 months?

        • @lostn: If you transfer 12GB onto that sim then recharge using a $50 voucher, the 17GB will (at the moment) expire in 12 months.

        • @PrinceHairy: ICk. So it would be better to put it on a $2 sim first, and then add a data plan to it?

        • @lostn: Activate the $2 SIM on the Data Pass plan, then transfer the 12GB and recharge with $50 to it.

  • Dick Smith already back to normal price?
    anywhere still have half price?thanks
