USB Microscope $49.99 telescope $120 @ ALDI

100

I remember when I got a microscope for my 12th Birthday, USB's didn't exist back then.

You had to draw what you saw, through the lens.

But with this microscope you can take photos. With most scientific journal requesting photos of microscopic findings these days, I believe it will be easier for you to get a publication in a reputable journal!

As for cost it is only $49.

10x, 60x and 200x magnification

1.3MP camera

Photo and video function

USB 2.0 connector

Includes storage container with 12 slides, 3 sample flasks, a culture dish and tweezers

but at this price this is pretty good.

When I was a kid, we took photos through the microscope, with a normal camera. No attachment needed even.
Only took an hour in the darkroom to process the picture. Ah, the smell of acetic acid in the morning …

    Only Windows drivers :(

    • Only Windows needs drivers?
Almost certainly uses standard USB webcam protocol. You might need to configure your OSX/linux system to recognise the USB device ID though?
Lots of things that need drivers for Windows "just work" under Linux.

I have one and it works fine under Mac OS X

  • I got this for $25 last time they brought it out and reduced it to half price (about 6 months ago). It's not bad at all for what it is. Had a great time looking at things with my kid. Less fun but very interesting was verifying those specs in the dog bowl were fleas. Don't expect CSI style pictures. The IQ is so so but definitely usable. The software isn't very user friendly but it does seem to be reasonably stable.

Same specs as 5 years ago. 1.3MP camera - wow where did they find those!

    • It's cheap so the optics are cheap. I don't think you'd see more quality out of increasing the megapixels, just increased file size.

Serious microscopes cost hundreds or thousands. I picked this thing up for $25. Can't complain.

  • Really good price on the telescope, about half of what anyone else charges. Hell, half of what amazon UK charges.
