Sony Cybershot DSC-TX1 Camera - $350 at Myer (RRP: $550)

520

Awesome super sleek sony TX1 for $350 - combining 3 promotions here… but that's how we roll at ozbargain :)

Myer is selling the Sony TX1 Camera for = $550
They currently have 20% off all camera's = $440
Get $400 gift vouchers and get $40 bonus, so essentially your paying $400 for $440 worth of vouchers to use = $400
Get Sony Cashback through www.sony.com.au to get $50 cashback = $350

You won't find cheaper anywhere else.

Remember - not only can you get insanely good deals for the TX1, but pretty much other cameras too you can combine two promotions - the 20% off and the gift card promotion.

  • Good one. Would have done that if I were in Sydney right now. I would be claiming 10% off from GST as well. Too bad I am away now.

  • Where does it say cameras are 20% off? Can't find it in the catalogue.

  • There will be a poster in store in the camera section

  • if u have a staff card do u get a further discount?

    • yes on the 20% off only
but u can still benefit from cashback and gift cards

  • I thought the 20% off was a one day only promo (on the 17th), No?

    • theposter said cameras until sunday only

  • good buy :)

If are going overseas within 30 days you could technically combine 4 "deals" here, get your 10% GST back when you leave and hence another $35 bringing it down to $315 :-) The cheapest I could find it ebay was $390 so this is really cheap.

    • GST is not 10% off ….. you will get $31.82 off

      • i stand corrected :-)

      • +3

        Actually it's $40.

    • damn… i'm going away in 32 days!

    • nice picking up on the GST too :)

  • more if you have a myer loyalty card :)

    • Yes, and use CBA AMEX card to buy the gift cards, I think you get 4 points (includes 1 bonus point) per dollar.

  • Interesting set of discounts, but couldn't you use this for any of the cameras they have on special?

    • Yes, as I said you can apply this to all camera's, just that the final $50 sony cashback won't apply to any except for the tx1 and wx1

  • Do you know where I need to go to purcahse the $400 gift vouchers plus the get $40 bonus?

    • Any counter at myers

  • Great deal.

    • 3" touch screen
    • "Exmor R" sensor
    • Sweep Panorama Mode
    • Burst Mode: 10fps at full 10.2MP
    • Anti-Motion Blur / Hand-held Twilight
    • HD Movie mode (720p) 30fps
    • Optical SteadyShot™
    • 1cm macro
    • 9-scene detection iAuto mode
    • 4x optical zoom
  • Great find

  • Awesome find, will get myself one of these tomorrow
    Thanks

  • Does Myer sell the Sony WX1? It has a much better lens (35mm f/3.5 vs 24mm f/2.4 at the wide end). The WX1 also has the Sony $50 cashback.

  • Sony proprietary memory stick only and only 4x optical zoom are really big thumbs down. Low light photography a big plus. I wouldn't get one myself but I'm voting a +ve for a good deal.

Gee you're hard to please. 4x optical on a compact digital camera? Which compact cameras have 5x optical or more?

How much are memory sticks these days? … - Just had a look on StaticICE, only $20-$30 for a 4gb, and $30-$40 for an 8gb.
      http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_8691_Sandisk_Memory_Stick…

OR does the non Sony branded ones not work?

Really big thumbs down? A bit much.

      • I agree with him…to me 4x is a bit low and i would rather the lense was 24mm too. As for other 5x ones…theres enough with Sonys WX1 being an example but people seem to rate the TX1 as being better overall. Still considering buying one mind you.

Jumping down dontask's throat for expressing his rather gentle and evenhanded opinion was a bit much.

I'd also have misgivings, mainly the lack of wide angle and the touch screen being a bit of a love it or hate it prospect for a camera. But if it's what you're after, applebyte's clever combination of promotions makes this deal a bargain.

Jumping down his thoat? There's no language that i've used in my post to warrant you branding it "Jumping down his throat". Unbelievable… :/

  • does anyone know if myer can somehow put the sale on "hold" for 1 or 2 days, to collect it on 22nd December? I need the date to be at least 22nd to get GST back.

    • I had GST claimed past 30 days - it was 36 days (I din't even need to ask - the guy said its ok). Obviously they are a bit flexible

Just went to Myer (NSW); their ticketed price is $599 so $50 above the RRP.
The 20% off cameras is only valid for 4 days only ending today (20 Dec 09) and only applies to the original Myer ticketed price (ie. $600). I showed them print-outs of the Sony website ($550 rrp) but they wouldn't budge, so just a word of warning to those who wish to take up on this offer.

    • So they jacked up ticketed prices just before the sale? Thats poor form

    • I bought mine yesterday and the price listed was $549… get them to check with other stores…

  • +1

I bought mine today as well at Macquarie Centre store. Ticketed price is definitely $549 then 20% off.

    -> applebyte

Nice posting and really nice bundling of all the existing deals :)

I also note, on doing a static ice search, the nearest competitor is DigiDirect in NSW $424, before applying shipping and that Sony cashback. :)

Another plus, is you can potentially get frequent flyer points for this purchase :) I think it's 2000 points gets you a $20 Myer gift voucher, so, for those with Myer One cards, it gets you … 1/5 th of the way closer to your next $20 gift voucher.

    • +1

      actually it gets u
2x400 + 2x439 = 1678 points which is about 83.9% of the way there (unless u dont get points for gift card purchases)

    • there is a digidirect store now
its behind sydney apple store on king street
prices are the same as website

  • I just got one! Great deal. wheres to cheapest place to get memory cards? eBay?

    • I'm getting mine from MSY… 8GB for $40 ain't too shabby (or like $23 or so for 4gb)

and to those that got one, why no +ve vote :P

  • Purchase of the gift card doesn't earn you myer one point, unfortunately.
It's in their term and condition:
"5.4 Shopping Credits cannot be earned when purchasing Myer, The Basement, Coles Myer Gift Cards and Virgin Gift Vouchers."

Thanks for posting such a great deal :)

    • +1

but what about when you purchase things with your gift card

      • They scanned my myer one card when i bought the camera using the gift card…didnt scan it when buying the cards.

  • +1

bought the camera on the 17th for about $440 after the 20% off. amazing deal itself already.

Myer didnt even advertise the sony cashback offer, so thank you very much.

not sure if i should get the additional battery or the $50 cashback…

and luckily im going overseas just within 30 days.

    most amazing purchase ever!

  • I bought it at Myer Sydney City for a bit less than $440 after discount. Ticket price shows $599, but when they scan it, it shows $440 after discount. So it's good.

Item purchase using Gift Card will earn Myer point, but purchase of the gift card itself will not earn point.

    • yeah, that's what i saw $599 ticketed price but scanned in at $440. This was the Castle Hill Myer store, NSW.

  • i had a hectic day today at work in the city store. we only have 3 silver ones left of this model. friend grabbed one for like $290ish or something after discounts and cahsback etc etc

  • +1

how do i get the sony cash back ??

  • i've got mine as a back-order. i'll be furious if it doesn't arrive before 31 Dec as i'll miss the $50 Sony cashback deadline
