Same deal from PCBYTE, not sure if includes the $50 voucher :) - assuming it does based on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204935

    • +2

Ass-u-me…the $50 voucher makes this one the winner.

      • Very simple, if you can select pickup from bigw and woolies and you use that, you get $50, if not then you don't. Doesn't matter which ebay shop you buy from (as long as there's the option of picking up from the 2 places).

    • +2

People need to be aware the $50 voucher option is very limited.
… from the conditions … only " select locations across Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania"

  • Also, how many times can you access the $50 ebay voucher? I have already ordered one for pickup at local Woolworths store. Can I order another item for click and collect, and qualify for another $50 voucher?

    • +2

I think somewhere it says it can only be done once per ebay account

      • +2

correct. One per account . Its in the T&C

      • thanks. That's what I thought.

  • The pcbyte eBay deal price has been increased to $289.

    • Are you looking at the link @djthornton posted? It's still showing as $249 (it's a eBay Group Buy with 465 left).

      • -2

I went there to have a look… it keeps changing.

  • +4

just bought the 250gb version fml

  • thanks OP. ordered 1

  • +1

Would someone be so kind as to post an image of where the "Click and collect" option is?

      • Thanks for the speedy reply but mine doesn't show like that sadly, not available if not on East coast? (saw the location stuff… )

      • What kind of ID is required at pickup?
Just wondering if I can get a mate to pickup for me :)

        • There is no ID required, you just need to provide a Collection Code that is given by eBay later when your parcel is ready for collection in store.

        • @calviny:
          Thanks posters :)

  • Funny enough I bought this SSD for $249 (before voucher) of ebay using my previous $50 voucher I got for the Moto G 2014 deal that was published here. Love them both. Nice SSD, very easy to port old HDD to with included migration software. If you can get the deal I recommend it.

  • +2

Prices for SSDs are really dropping like a rock.

    • +1

Thats because the industry knows XPoint is coming.

      • +1

        I'm excite…

      • Whats the point of having a drive 1000 times faster than an SSD when the SATA ports can process that speed

        • +1

PCI x Sata can elevate some of the constrains, in theory. But obviously, 3D XPoint will change the way mobos are designed, as they might also make RAM obsolete. It could be an all-in-one chip, given the expected density. Still too early to tell.

        • +1

I'm actually excited for its implications outside of ssd. Denser sd cards and internal phone memories for hopefully the same amount of coins.

    • Is there a point in upgrading to this if I still have 30gb free on my 128gb ssd?

      • +2

        more is always better !

      • If you only have one window os and only use it for booting and you mainly install games and large programs to another drive
        then you don't need it

  • Can you install this in a laptop on 2.5 mobile hdd ports?

    • +1

      Yes you can

    • +1

      Two parts questions.

Firstly yes it will fit 2.5 inch slot.

Secondly, laptops HDD are either 7mm or 9.5mm thick. Pull out your current HDD and measure the thickness. This Evo 850 is 7mm thick and if yours is also 7mm, then you are good. If not, while 7mm drives are known to work in 9.5mm bays (you will need the casing and screws from the current drive). I have read online that a very small minority of people may run into issues getting the drive to be secured due to the extra space, depending on the laptop manufacturer's design. You dont want the drive to move around while carrying your laptop, even for just 2mm.

      • Not a huge issue for SSD. just tighten the screws.

        • +1

Hmm ok, there you go melfes, it is a yes…

        • @KaTst3R:

There's no moving parts in a SSD. Obviously you don't want the drive flopping around on the connector. But it's not like there's a spinning magnetic disc in there to damage.

        • +3

You are right. But 7mm vs 9.5mm is still something to take note of for lappie users. Especially so if they bought a 9.5mm SSD for a 7mm slot bay, then it will be hilarious…I believe Crucial has some 9.5mm SSDs.

        • @KaTst3R:

Ha, it would be so disappointing. You could always sand it down :-)

        • @KaTst3R: Thanks, thoroughly explained

        • @melfes:

          Glad to assist..

    • Normally, yes.

I'd recommend ejecting your old one to confirm, it always pays to check as some companies (especially older systems) do some "unique" sockets. If size is an issue I normally go with thermal tape (like the thermal paste but comes in tape) to pad the new one.

  • So if I buy that and select a Woolies to pick up, I automatically get the $50 coupon from ebay after I complete my purchase. Or at what point do I get the coupon. Quite interested in buying one now if I get that $50 coupon for my next ebay purchase. Please advise.

Was going to get this deal until i saw how much they were going for on amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRE5UE/ref=pe_172030_14…

$177.99 USD, Ex Shipping on Amazon.

    • +1

      ?

      Amazon: 177.99 USD => 254 AUD + $8 Postage = $262, plus it'll take longer to arrive.

  • anyone received theirs yet?

EDIT: just checked my email and apparently is ready for pickup now, so will get it tonight.

    • can't edit an old post it seems, anyways.. picked up from BIG W this evening - won't have the time to install and clone my existing HDD probably until weekend, but will try the included Samsung migration software. Also I need to buy an SSD to 3.5" adapter so I can mount the thing.
