For comparison, the Ambit2 Sapphire is selling for $32 t9 USD on Amazon.com so this works out considerably cheaper and is backed by Suunto Australian Warranty.

Compared to Ambit3

The main differences to the current generation of Ambit3 are:

  • Ambit2 has no smartphone integration (you need to hook it up to your computer)
  • Ambit2 supports ANT/ANT+ for sensors whereas Ambit3 only supports Bluetooth Smart sensors
  • No activity tracker (e.g. walking) on the Ambit2

    Just a heads up that this doesn't include the Heart Rate Strap (same bundle with the strap is $50 more, which puts it pricing wise too close to the newer Ambit 3).

    In terms of pricing, the non-Sapphire Ambit 2 with the Heart Rate strap included has been cheaper in the past through Amart Sports when they have a 20% off watches sale ($399 price down to $325ish, saving you $30-35 compared to Ryda) so might be worth waiting out for one of those sales rather than buying here if you don't care about the Sapphire glass.

      AGREE: I got my Ambit2 HR last year for only a little more than $400. I think the Ambit3 would be a better option at that price point…

        It depends on what you are after. There is no Ambit3 with Sapphire crystal anywhere near that price point and the Ambit3 Sport and Run versions are only water resistant to 50m so if this were for marine use you might prefer the Sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance so that it would not get scratched up and flooded on first use. If it's for running or cycling these become a lot less important.

        The battery life on the Ambit3 Sport/Run and Ambit2S is also half that of the Ambit2 and Ambit3 Peak. Tradeoffs, tradeoffs. :)

      The difference in price between the Sapphire and mineral glass versions is ~$100 so this is not a fair comparison. But yes, if you are after a heart rate strap this may not be the deal for you as it's an extra $50 compared an extra $38 in most shops.

      The Ambit3 Sapphire with no strap sells for $580, which is not exactly close.
