      šŸ”“ = unlocked, yes :)

  • $120 or so cheaper at Android Enjoyed though; are they grey imports?

  • What's the difference between this one and the 640 of 5"? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205035)
It seems to me not much a part from the cameras and dispaly size, but 640 is 4G. I'm really tempted to buy that 640 for USD$79, never had a Windows phone and would like to try it. Anyone that have used it?

    • If you aren't into to much customisation and apps windows phone is really great. I loved using it.

  • Op I am waiting for the 940xl.
The fact that this only has a 720p screen and 1gb ram makes it unattractive to me.
940xl looks like a better upgrade.
I've seen this phone cheaper on kogan but still won't buy it

    • 940XL likely to be called 950XL instead. But yeah holding out for that.

If the app store wasn't so pathetic I'd be keen. Windows Phone is a slick OS

    • Windows Phone is a slick OS

Windows is the OS. Phone is er… just a phone.

It's still called "Windows Phone 8.1". They might change it to Windows 10 mobile, but it's not called "Windows".

          Yep. You are right.

This is true, but I found all the stuff I actually used was there… i now use windows phone for messaging, phone calls (!!!) and the occasional other things… Use my tablet for anything else, and found that far better than any phone.

  • @ $347, still finding it hard to accept this as a good deal given that the old Lumia 735 can just about match this phone but was down to <$150 back months ago.
Dunno. Not going to neg this though.

    • even double the price with, you have definitely more than twice the better experiences: smoother, bigger screen, longer battery life, better camera, etc

      • Hmmmm. Seems like definitely better battery life and camera. Sort of dropped OLED for IPS, dropped in built Qi charging, same Snapdragon 400and screen comes with same resolution.

      • How can it be smoother? All these Lumia use same type of SoC, ram, resolution screen etc. Performance will be identical. You would expect a phone at this price point to have a better SoC, other $300 phones get s615 now. Even the $45 Y550 had a s410. Bigger screen with same resolution = lower ppi, plenty complain about not having 1080p on 5 inch screen, thats pretty bad for a phablet. It would need to have 930 or 1520 specs at this price point for me to consider this as a deal. The 640 xl is similar to the old 1320 but with better camera's.

        • Agreed, I am really surprised that my Lumia 925 still is on par with the rumoured 850 (snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM vs Snapdragon S4 Plus, 1GB RAM)

        • @AznMitch:

Is the 850 meant to be an update of the 830?

        • @Ronnnie: My bad, I meant 840. Had to check the article again. I remember reading about the spec (Snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM with HD resolution), but cannot seem to find that article that mentioned the specs.

    • I think you are paying for what I call "new model premium". They increase price for the newer model (or rather, it's closer to RRP, because the retailers don't give you discounts on them).

  • My son got a 640, battery life is damn amazing, only thing he is complaining is the app store, what a pity

  • I will never wanna waste my time for another windows phone anymore, recently bought a 640XL via eBay 15%/20% discount or something, worst experience ever! I mean not only the lack of apps but also some inconvenience issues compared to any Android phone. I'm not a fanboy that's why i thought i'll give it a try, how regretful i am. The only good thing i found about this phone is the battery life, but hey, this is because it is stopping most background running apps. i.e. opening a Viber apps took me 20seconds slower compared to any android phone, imagine the time wasted per day! also, try open the keypad and dial the name of a person via keypad, it won't try to match your phonebook's contact's name, to search a contact, you have to click on the phone book to search the name, then go into details of that particular contact, and then dial, while with android, just pressed the keypad with the first alphabet you can think of that name, then matchings will appear.. i'm making at least 10 phone calls everyday, therefore, time wasted a lot..touch screen also sometimes not accurate, esp with browsing the internet..it will drive you crazy!! well, my 2cents (or 20)

  • The keyboard is awesome in terms of fluidity. It always amazes me even how smooth it is even on low end Lumia phones. However it has a couple of flaws, swyping word prediction doesn't seem to be as accurate as Android keyboards. And the lack of numbered line on the keyboard slows down typing when you have to type out numbers. I prefer the Samsung keyboard, even if it's not always fluid, and appears better at predicting words when typing. I've never found Lumia's to be overly better battery wise. My Lumia 930 is terrible, loses about 10% every 20 minutes while using it. Loses around 2% an hour idling. And if you look at reviews on net this is normal. The only time battery life is great, is in battery saving mode, but then it stops pretty much everything including receiving notifications and updating information. And it only really mainly only improve idle time.

    • I personally thought the reason to lied on the fact that Lumia series never seem to have a large battery… Then again, Lumia 930 and Galaxy S4 i9506 (the one with the same SoC as 930) only has like 100mAh difference.

I don't know, I personally thought my Lumia 925 lasts long enough for its battery size. Then again, it has lower res and SoC that's fairly outdated.

  • woohoo. Got price match from Office works punchbowl and got it for just $246…Did i get ripped off??
