[Preorder] Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller (£74.09/approx.AUD $156.37) Shipped @ Amazon UK

100

Saw this from Windows Central,

Description from:
http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-one/accessories/controllers/e…

£74.09 delivered, roughly converts to $156.37 AUD (1:2.11), VAT gets removed when you are at the checkout.
Right now, as far as I know, only place you could pre-order this in Australia is from EB games and MS Store (at AUD $199.95)

I believe the payment is made after the item is dispatched, so it's likely that the estimate would be off by the time it gets paid.

  • Possibly worth locking in the exchange rate with something nasty like a QantasCash or VeloctiyMoney card then if the cash is tendered at fulfillment, unless you're a gambler :D

    • +1

Definitely, I don't think AUD will be getting better any time soon (I personally think it's more than likely to go down, even by just looking at what Google showed me).

  • Nice, but now I'm worried about not being able to pay right now… What to do…

  • Gone already.

  • +7

    $156 for a Xbox controller… Wow.

    • +4

And some people think it's a deal!?

    • +1

clearly you don't know this isn't the standard xbox one controller.

      • -3

        Wow it's not?! I had no idea…

Please explain to me how it's worth $156, or $199 here in Australia (basically 2/5th the price of a Xbox One).

Does it give you a happy ending each time you use it?

        • +9

now why would i bother explaining the difference when you are acting like a clown?

        • +11

It's comparable to other 'pro' controllers that use additional inputs such as paddles like the SCUF controllers (~$150 US), yet also has switchable parts, tunable sensitivity and stainless steel parts.

If you think it's expensive, it's not made for you.

Do you also go around complaining that Mercedes are expensive when you can buy a Corolla for so much cheaper?

          @holden93:
Yes, because you give such quality comments on a daily basis.. Oh wait…

          @AXiS

If you think it's expensive, it's not made for you.

Do you also go around complaining that Mercedes are expensive when you can buy a Corolla for so much cheaper?

Ridiculous comparison. Please tell me how this is worth over double the price of the normal Xbox One controller, and is 2/5th's the price of the console itself?

If Mercedes offered an accessory that was 2/5th's the price of the car itself, I'm sure you'd also see what a crazy price it is to spend.

        • @Porthos: You obviously don't know how to drop shoot.

        • -2

@Porthos: look at your current comments on a product that you clearly have absolutely no idea about.

        • @holden93:

Still waiting for your 'quality' comment to explain how a controller is worth 2/5th's the price of the console itself.

It's ok, I'll wait while you come up with something.

No different to a deal posted a few days back for a mechanical pencil that was about $60 dollars. Some people can't fathom why a $2 one wouldn't do, where someone that works with one 8 hours a day swears by it and gets value out of it. I suspect the people asking why a $2 pencil wouldn't do don't spend a lot of time using those pencils, but probably have other areas in their life where they are willing to splurge a little.

If someone spends an hour or two playing games a day and can make that experience more comfortable by using a fancy controller over a five year period or so, then to them it's probably not wasted money. Would I get one? Not at that price but certainly I wouldn't mind having some of the features this is offering such as the interchangeable D Pad etc.

At $150 as this deal was I'm not sure the price is completely outlandish when one considered where the RRP for controllers sits now days.

        • +3

@AXiS: No, it's more like buying a Coralla and put 12k rims on it :D

I was shocked as well when reading AUD$156 was a deal on OCAU for a controller, but after I looked at the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJAix3h-1DM, read the comments and did some researched I realised it was my limited knowledge on the topic and PRO controllers are a thing!!!

Looks like M$ is competing against Scuf, https://scufgaming.com/store/scuf-one/ and the price is indeed a bargain.

I don't personally see myself buying a pro controller in the near future, but looks like this was a good deal.

        • @Porthos:
It's Microsoft trying to take customer away from scuff gaming.

Since you don't game from the Sound of it or if you do then it must be not very much a day. You don't understand that paying a little more for something you enjoy doing is worth it to only those who enjoy doing it and in this case it's for console gamers.

No different to buying en expensive accessory for a camera. Maybe a lens or tripod or whatever.

All you see if the words controller then compaire to standard controller prices and think wait those numbers are larger than the other numbers. And not realise how much those extra features help when gaming since you don't gaming daily for hours.

        • @Porthos: I frankly think this seemingly high price is a product of the trade off between cash and quality. More than often, after the basics have been filled the benefit from that extra cash is less; you pay more for less. This happens with PC parts like CPU, GPU etc, tablets and phones, audiophile industry in general and so on and so forth (in fact, I could give you more ridiculous sounding examples with headphones i.e. $6,000 headphone that requires special type of amp that would go up to $3,000).

Whether you choose to buy these or not would depend on whether you see this as a reasonable investment. I think it's gimmicky (probably because I am not the target audience) but then again, I've shared this because it was definitely cheaper than anywhere in Australia. I am sure there are some people who would benefit from getting a better controller. It definitely seems to be a better version than Xbox one (there will be people out there who finds the difference large enough to invest that much cash)

          @Porthos:

holden93's comment below may be a better comparison - getting an expensive DSLR camera, in which you can buy a cheap lens half the price of the camera base, or a lens multiple times the price.

This controller is not aimed at the average player, just as buying a GTX Titan GPU probably costs most people just as much for that single component as the entire rest of their PC put together and is therefore not aimed at the mainstream player.

You've been asking for reasons for the price compared to a regular controller. Here you go:

          • Stainless steel parts (as opposed to plastic in regular controller).
          • Swappable parts (comes with multiple sets of thumbsticks, D-pads and paddles)
          • Comes with a hard carrying case.
          • Individual hair trigger switches.
          • Paddles (also swappable)
          • Able to be completely remapped, sensitivity tuned, etc.
          • Onboard memory to save 2 profiles able to be hotswapped (e.g., flick switch to change thumbstick sensitivity curves and deadzones to your 'sniper' mapping during a match).
          • New rubber grips.
          • Braided cable.
        • @AXiS:

That's the type of answer I was looking for, I had seen the link AznMitch had put in the OP, as well as the YouTube video, but apart from flashing marketing I'm still not seeing how this is worth so much more.

If it were $100, I'd see no issue with it. It clearly is an upgrade from the standard Xbox One controller. For the standard AU price of $199, when the Xbox One and PS4 regularly go on sale for low to mid $400's, it's a ridiculous price in comparison to the actual console.

    • +2

That was my first reaction too.

But then I remembered I've bought several mechanical keyboards and gaming mice so… (at discounted ozbargain prices of course but still steep).

  • What's so special about this one?

  • +4

Does it come with a free xbox one?

  • +3

Will it work wirelessly with a PC?

    • with the upcoming dongle, yes

      • I assume there will be a dongle (maybe the same one) for the 'standard' wireless controller?

        • There probably will be (with MS trying to use 3 screen 1 device tactic).

        • I don't see why the dongle wouldn't work with both

  • damn, missed that lol will have to wait…

Xbox One controller is one of the best designed controller out there.. the feel in hand is way better than any other controller… and even my PS4 owner friends admit there IS no contest on the controller department…

This thing is just Microsoft banking on the success, I hope it wont become the cheaters controller but.. hmmm maybe it is worth the money if it lets you pull off more killer combos or headshots …

I hope it helps in my world of tanks control… :)

looks promising indeed yet, we should all wait and see

    • +1

Personally I hate the xboxone controller vs the PS4. And yes I own both consoles.

I like my analogue sticks in line with each other. The xbox feels so wrong because of it. Of course, MS will never change it.

      • Really? Totally opposite over here.

The thumb sticks on the PS are just silly to me and probably won't bother buying another console if they all end up going that way.

      • I agree, offset sticks just seems weird. Admittedly I haven't used an Xbone controller (or if I have it was unmemorable), only the x360. I have heard it was an improvement over the X360 controller although I'm unable to find anything that doesn't simply conclude "the triggers & D-pad are better".
