  • how do you know its the 9600 ?

Same as this one ? http://www.binglee.com.au/altech-pvr9600-hd-triple-tuner-pvr

    these any good ?

  • +6

There are 6 programs worth recording simultaneously?

  • Bought one for the folkes really impressed set up a breeze.previously used strong and topfield this is better

  • Was getting sick of my old HTPC being temperamental and only able to view/record two channels, so this seems like a decent replacement and going by the whirlpool link has an active community and ongoing manufacturer backing.

    • Actually the manufacturer's website has been down a lot more often than it's been up in recent months.

  • I've got a couple of these and they are great.
Made a request to change the software and they provided it in the following update. (To switch channel when you set a reminder instead of just remind you and then disappear)
Note that you may need to download the latest firmware and upgrade it via USB the first time (I had to do this with my newest unit).
Don't get me wrong, its not perfect … but a considerable amount cheaper than any other brands.
I believe that Altech has made this type of hardware for vendors, but this is one of the first that they've sold under their own banner.

  • Have one, very satisfied. Not perfect but very good at the price. Replaced a very erratic Toppy TF7000 … :-) .. !!

    • To be fair, the TF7000 is an ancient model now, well past its use-by.

      • It was ALWAYS erratic, kept corrupting hard disks. The only way to retrieve the situation was to take out the hard disk and reformat it on a computer. Nightmare.. .. :-( .. !!

        • The TF7000 had some well documented problems, mostly with the firmware. Yours sounds like faulty caps in the PSU, however. There have been 2 or 3 somewhat duff Topfield models over the years and that was one of them. The others are generally very good. Until recently it was the only PVR that could do series recording using only the FTA EPG and it's still the only PVR that can run user developed apps.
