Seriously, how can something like this be manufactured, shipped and a profit be made off it at that price.
Think on a bigger scale. Imagine how many of these could be made per day in a factory by an automated process by robots (probably a few cents for material and overheads).
You then put 100's of 1000's of them in a shipping container and slowing sail it to Australia (maybe 10-20c to get it to shore). You then distribute them in bulk to various stores around Australia (probably the biggest cost at about 30c each). You then need to pay a few people to work at the store which is your biggest cost but luckily you sell heaps of other things with a far bigger markup to pay their wages.
I doubt this is a loss leader product since the demand for buckets probably isn't that high but I don't think it would be too hard to make 10-20% profit on something like this in this day and age.
These strong and durable .. cough cough .. false advertising there. Bet the handles break if filled to capacity and left in 2 days of sunlight they become extremely brittle.
But I do love me a $1 bucket for the car cleaning.
I bought for washing my car a few months ago. They split in the base. Just a cheap throw away bucket after a few months so don't expect high mileage from these.
I expect it would split apart if you happen to breathe near it
environmental disasters.
I've got a few of these. I swear I paid 50c from Bunnings.
The handles are the weak point. They are SO crap, they guaranteed to break before being half full of dirt.
