Looked at Brisbane to NY, it's a flight marathon for anywhere between 50 and 75 hours!! Probably better to break the trip unless you're a travelling masochist. Or wait for a comparable fare with Virgin, Delta, American or Qantas and a twenty hour itinerary. They will come around again.. :-) .. !!

I hadn't looked at the times for the Brisbane->NYC flights. 70 hours is pretty extreme. However, you do get to spend 20 hours at Dublin, so you could actually get out and see a bit of the city in that time.

Even from Perth you are looking at 46 hours.
      That is rough.

      • It's actually only around 30 hours - iWantThatFlight is computing the times incorrectly. When you click through to the purchase website you can see the accurate duration. That's what happened with the flight I clicked through anyway (that said 46 hours on iWantThatFlight)

Any deals for Canada? Vancouver specifically.

  • Any Tokyo deals coming up for Jan?

  • I love it, do you think they have a book that lists all future deals lol

When deals are released via the AIRLINE and are a bargain im sure they will post a deal!

This is pretty much how it works.

Flying to the US via a middle east carrier is pretty extreme unless your taking a stopover in Europe. The price would have to be an amazing bargain (half this price) for me to double my travel time flying the wrong way around the world.

I did the SYD - JFK with Etihad late last year (initiated by this REPs post!). Etihad service is very good, good food, the planes at fitted with live TV and for ~$20, surprisingly fast internet access.

A word of warning however, Etihad's 777s are fitted in a super economy configuration 10 across (3-4-3). There are however, 5 rows of 2-4-2 at the rear of the plane, this is where you should be sitting if there is just 1 or 2 of you. Furthermore, the rear is often where the empty rows are, I moved to an empty row of 4 seats for three of four sectors.

Its not for everyone, definitely - but ugly buildings?

(note - the neg is not from me, I happily admit that if you don't like crowds then NYC is not for you).

Because different people like different things. Open your mind.

      • -1

You know, my mind IS open, which is why I'm asking for what I'm missing…

… But you haven't suggested anything.

    • -1

yep clearly you are - NYC is amazing despite any shortcomings. I take it you have never been there (cept in your head)!

      • Yeah it's obvious I haven't been there.

So like I was saying, I know I'm missing stuff… but what?

        • You're just being a shit-stirrer. Like I said, it's different. you're clearly not that (profanity) dumb to know that it's a big city with a wide variety of culture and activities with a lot of unique history and things to do. Sport/Theatre/Food.

Everyone (profanity) knows this. Is it for everyone? No.

          Pull your (profanity) head in.

        • @corbz:

You decided to take me as a shit stirrer, when I told my limited perception of NYC and said that I AM missing something…

You're being a bigot, by attacking me when my limited opinion of NYC didn't match yours.

Your mind blowing explanation of NYC -"it's different" was very helpful, and makes me want to go there now. Thanks kiddo, I will go there, because of the amazing fact that it's different lol.

    • People go for the unique sub culture, food scene and arts scene - and nearby attractions. Its a matter of opinion. Its like people who think Australia is all desert, kangaroos and beaches - glossing over the fact theres more depth and things to see. Best to check it out for your self.

      • Ok, finally an objective answer. Thank you.

        • You really needed someone to tell you that New York isn't a scene for scene remake of Law & Order?

'Oh thank you kind sir for letting me know that stereotypes exist and my eyes are now so open!"

  • A little off topic but how would you rate Etihad as a carrier?

    • I heard they're quite good. Alike the other two middle east carriers - qatar and Emirates. They all seem to have high standards and competitive prices at that. On the other hand, some people I know got cheap flights to europe via china on China southern and other chinese airlines, and said it was uncomfortable. I guess its a matter of opinion.

  • Start spreadin the newsssss~!

  • Reminds me of the sale fares the middle east carriers had for travel to South america. which was like 40 - 50 hours (inc transit) - for comfort in that case I considered Lan and qantas - paying 200 more but 1/2 the time. Great deal otherwise - esp if you want to stop over for a while in the middle east.

10 hours on a plane gives me the shits.

    • Try 6 hours from Madrid to Dubai - 2 hr stop over then another 16 hour flight to Melbourne. Including losing a whole calendar day and actual day. Its always the days after taking that route back from Europe that kill you - waking up at 3am and sleeping at 3pm lol.

  • re "Or $1285 on Japan Airlines" Are there any combinations of flying to NYC with Etihad and NYC to SYD via Japan?
