    Great Job.

  • How much normally?

  • -1

still annoyed that I missed the previous deal. No chance of that one coming back again?

    • +2

240gb is still available from eBay for $109 delivered

      • Cheers mate, might have to go that way :) thanks for the heads up!

        • +1

If you got it during the ebay $50 cashback deal, it would have been $59, same price as this.

It was on there somewhere else for $106.

I almost bought one, then I looked up reviews and its performance was mediocre even compared to other drives in its price range.

      • There's one new listing going for $39! But if it's too good to be true, it usually is…

    • -1

      Nop,never ever coming back.

      • 240gb will definitely drop under $99 probably the end of the year

  • -1

I don't need one but you get a +ve for the code.

  • -1

Would have thought SOLIDARSE would have been a better code :(

    • +4
      • oh my bad, missed that one!

        • +1

you should say: "oh, my arse, missed that arse, what's the next arse?"

        • +2

          @Jamesx: A deal on Holes?

        • @Jamesx: Big arse, but that might get a few guys in trouble…."sweetheart I got your bigarse deal for you"

      • Do you have a list of all the promo codes you have used? I'm sure it would make interesting reading

      • What's wrong in reusing the SOLIDARSE again for another?

  • I am upvoting these deals by TA just for the code names alone.

  • In a previous thread there was a reference on how to clone existing hard drive so I have the backup for my system?
Currently on win10 but want to have my E: Partion backed up onto my new SSD

      • Buy a ssd adapter or use any spare sata ports in your system
      • install macrium reflect. (My preferred option) and clone your hard drive to the new ssd
      • if only backing up files to the new hard drive just copy and paste the files into the new ssd, instead of cloning it
      • remember that cloning can be very expensive (data wise) if only to backup files and not the op system
      • Thanks for info. Yer only want to save the current e partion then a fresh install of win10

Finally can upgrade my mums slow as celeron

She says it's fine, but no mum it's unusably slow.

  • +1

if memory serves me, this is the cheapest 120GB SSD ever offered on OzBargain.

    Closest I can think of:
SanDisk SSD 128GB + Free 32GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD Card $69 @ MSY

    • Got that and sold the sd card for $15 :)

  • Anyone able to help with the differences between this "Plus" model, and the Ultra plus they offer. Going into a HTPC so happy with cheaper, but not at the cost of reliability.

    ie, this one here
    http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…

    • +1

You will definitely not see the difference when talking about htpc, trust me! Only when doing s.. load of processing at the same time(ie gaming).

      • +1

You mean lots of disk read/writing…

  • -1

Hard to believe that the price of SSD are cheaper than USB flash and SD cards.

  • +1

This one can replace hard drives in laptops, yes?

    • +1

Yes, I have them in two of mine.
Edit 1: yes, if yours have a normal sata port.

      • It's this one:

        http://www.amazon.com/Acer-ES1-511-C59V-15-inch-Celeron-Wind…

        "…500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive…"

        So, yes :D Thanks

        • Depends on the thickness. If you have an ultrabook, maybe not. You might need mSata.

        • @lostn:
I've just confirmed that it's a SATA drive (see the link), are you trying to confuse me?

        • @inose: I think they're lost

        • @inose: If it works, it works. Just note that sata drives come in a range of thicknesses, including mSATA.

Pretty much all drives are SATA, so that alone doesn't say much. Your link mentions nothing about the thickness of the drive. But I'm guessing it will fit.

  • +2

We are all going to BrokeArses if TA keeps this up,lol

Still loving your work and effort Sir TA.

Hey TA, any chance of working out a deal on Wireless SD cards?, like FlashAir/ Eye-fi,etcc

  • +2

go for the 240GB if you can, twice the capacity, twice the write speed.

    • Twice the write speed? Please tell me more

      What about read speed?

      • Same read speed.

        350MB/s vs 180MB/s write speed.

  • +1

Great deal! A nice cheap, decent one to extend the life of my uni laptop =)

  • THANKS TA! I ordered one =)

  • +1

Another cracker of a deal. Cheers TA & Shopping Express.

  • +1

Anyone bought any of these Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB for $39?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-SSD-PLUS-240GB-2-5-Intern…
or is it too good to be true?

    • +4

Didn't see any feedback as a seller… probably a hacked account or something? Either way, looks dodge

      • +1

Yeah i thought it was really suspicious that there was no feedback as a seller too.

        • +2

All I can say after being an ebay member for almost 20 years is this…..there are people that prey on the gullible, desperate and greedy.
Even when you think that something is not unlikely to be real you can get caught out (I have once or twice).
This seller not only has no history of selling anything on ebay, they have made 2 purchases in 12 months.
Now they have sold 26 of this SSD with >10 available.
At this price, either it's a scam or it's counterfeit product, I can't see it being anything else.

  • so many combos of arses for codes…

  • According to a few reviews these can write considerably faster than their specs. If that is correct then even more of a bargain.

EDIT: Seems the better than expected results are likely just due to confusion with the higher performing 240GB model.

  • Thanks OP, got two

    • You know what they say - two arses are better than one.

  • Nice work

  • Anyone tried using an Enclosure to make this an External Portable drive? any good? A drop in performance?

    • You'll choke half the speed of it. I've been trialling many SSDs (inc mSATA) in many USB3 cases. Still FAST, but very disappointed. Even expensive cases.

  • Surely you're going to run out of words to use in coupons soon?

    • +5

      Pigsarse :)

      • So pork chops is the next bargain ;)

        • A deal on beef jerky.

  • My laptop says it support SMART SATA II, would this work with that?

    • The drive is definitely backwards compatible with SATA II, I dont know much about SMART though. If the drive is the same size as your current hdd Id say it would be fine

      • Could a SATA III SSD inside a SATA II laptop result in wrong SMART readings?
My brand new 240GB SanDisk Plus has only 26% health according to Hard Disk Sentinel with that set up.

        • This is the manufacturers own diagnostic program. Maybe give it a try?
          http://downloads.sandisk.com/Dashboard/SanDiskSSDDashboardSe…

        • @Sven Nijs: The SMART tests with SanDisk's program said there were no problems, but I don't trust them because it is in their best interests to say their products are working well in order to reduce warranty/return costs. Are there any other good commercial HDD/SDD checking software?

        • +1

          @Fobsessive:

CrystalDiskInfo is free and works well. Gives more comprehensive assessment of drive health.

    • I've used SSD's in SATA 2 equipped PC's as the main drive.

Worked fine, speeds will be not as quick as SATA 3 but still makes a huge difference to boot times and overall experience.
You should have no issues leaving S.M.A.R.T on either.

  • I've ordered and accidentally got the delivery address wrong.

    Hulp

  • Any ideas who they use to ship? It says AusPost, Courier. But i want to deliver to my parcel locker and has to be AusPost if so.

    • +2
      • Thanks TA, as always very helpful. I would think it will be Auspost. Couriers please would make sense for larger items, ie monitors and full PCs.

  • Pardon my ignorance,Is it possible to use it as portable drive?

    • I believe you can, but you would need to buy an enclosure for it and/or an adaptor to plug it in.
      Something like this: http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Hard%20Drives%20&%20SSDs/…

Otherwise they have released portable versions (albeit more expensive) such as: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-250gb-portable-solid-…

      • That Scroptec enclosure does not state what type of SATA it is, so it is overpriced at $25. You can get one on eBay for $10.

        • Yeah just listed them as examples.

        • If you’re in the western syd area, I picked up a usb3 enclosure for $8 or $9 from a electronics store in parramatta. Pm me if u want further deets.

    • +1

Yes, you can but the main issue is that unless you have access to a USB3 port then it will be pointless to have it in a portable drive.

      • Thank you both, appreciate your suggestions,

  • +1

Thanks tightarse, you bring us mad ass bargain.

  • Thanks. Can totally justify the upgrade to my son's pc for this price!

  • i hope this budget series of ssds from sandisk prompt samsung/crucial/other manufacturers to release competing products!

samsung aside, even the old budget king crucial only has the overpriced bx100.

    • Crucial did, MX100.

  • Thanks TA! Finally bought an SSD. This lower end one will be fine since my 2010 desktop is still running SATA 3GB/s (sata2).

  • +4

A few days ago Sandisk announced the first 256 Gigabit 3-bit-per-cell (X3) 48-layer 3D NAND.

    What does this mean?

This means they've managed to pack 256 gigabit (or 32 gigabytes) of storage into this little black chip. Doesn't sound like a lot, but current NAND modules typically only have 16GB of storage each, so this is a pretty big improvement. They do this by stacking the memory vertically so that there are 48 layers in the NAND die — current chips have 32 layers.

And as you can see from the image above, a typical budget SSD has around 6-10 of these NAND flash modules.

So you can expect to see pretty big SSD's in the future at a much lower price point.

    • Sounds exactly like what happened to RAM chips many years ago when we all had something like 4MB of RAM in our PCs.

      Look at us now.

      • +1

2MB upgrade meant Adlib Audio (as opposed to PC Speaker blip-blop crap) for DUNE II!

        "Need it for work"

  • +2

    TA for prime minister

  • Thanks

  • Does this include a sata to usb cable in the box? I know samsung pros have this included.

    • No. Neither do the Samsung Pro drives you can commonly get at most computer stores in Australia.

      • Thanks! I understand, maybe the youtube video i saw was from a non AU stock.

  • Do I have to purchase an extra mount if I want to put this into a CPU?

  • Would this be a good drive to pop in a PlayStation 3? Need moar load speed.

    • +2

      No.

You'll get some gains from it, but not as much as you would get if you put it on a PC. For starters, PS3 does not support SATA3, so it's being bottlenecked already. Second, other parts inside the PS3 will bottleneck the load times. The same is true of PS4 btw.

If you're still rocking an old 40GB or 60GB and could use more space, sure, go for it.

But if you have 320GB or 500GB in there already, don't bother downgrading your capacity for a small increase in speed.

      • Yeah I had heard about the PS3 being only SATA2. Still interested in getting an SSD to cut a bit off loading times, but it could be a previous generation drive or something. Probably not worth the investment if it's more than $40-$50 to put into a older system that would only be worth $120-$170…

  • How does this compare to this past deal?https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198395

I bought that one and has been working great. This one seems to have half the write speed thought. Would that be noticeable in regular day to day use? (office docs, internet browsing kind of things)

I'm guessing it would still be an improvement from my old HDD.

    Thanks

Edit: bought the previous deal one for my laptop, looking to get something similar for my wife's laptop now.

    • +1

I think any SSD is an improvement from HDDs. As for speed, I doubt the difference would be noticeable for day to day use.
