        • What a load of BS. They are trying to make this sound like it's a $1000+ bundle.

This camera has sold for a similar price without any cash back.

        • Jason My welcome code isnt working ?>

It actually increases the price of items in my cart

Bernard: (HN support): unfortunately that is with a bundle deal which is why the code does not work

        • @jason101: Heh that sucks

          $1,117.00 OMFG.

The rest of the competition out there is priced this way. Pretty sure all of these are as good, if not better than the A5000 too. I'm also only familiar with the two retailers below since they are both local to me. There are probably others that price competitively out there, but I don't actually know who they are.

Source: My research because I'm trying to upgrade to a CSC with wireless, fast lenses, good image quality, good jpg performance. My choice isn't listed above as I'm currently considering the Fujifilm XT-10 with XF 18-55 f/2.8-4R LM OIS Lens.

@ankor: What a strange comparison. None of those are directly comparable, and the cheapest one is still double the price of this.

        • +2

          @Orpheus:

What I mean to say, is that if you are going to look at spending $1,117.00, and not the list price of $496, then those are the options at that pricepoint. Should have been clearer.

  • quick search on ebay… $320 shipped from china.
no aus warranty.. but so cheap.

acutally .. i prolly wont trust this guy with 0 sales

  • +3

No stock around me. Wouldn't trust them to get it deliver as it will only be sent from a store that has stock and who knows it been opened or used before. Ordered a phone from them before for delivery and it had pictures and videos of their staff. No explicit pictures though.

    • +3

If you ran a deep recovery on the flash they'll be there ;)

  • Great camera. Just spent 5 months travelling and used this throughout. Especially helpful is its light weight and small size.

  • Saw checking out for stock availability last night around Sydney, none available :(

    • Wondering if there's actually any stock anywhere, searching up the major city postcodes yields all out of stock..

      • That's right. If there is no stock, shouldn't this not considered a deal in OzBargain?

      • +1

        There is plenty of stock, I count 4 stores under 2000 postcode, 7 under 3000, 7 under 4000, 5 under 5000 and more :) I'm not using mobile :)

        • Hmm I must be doing it wrong. I just tried the postcode 2000, it listed 8 stores but all are out of stock???

Edit: Also tried postcode 3000, 4000 and 5000. All the listed stores are out of stock. What the hell is going on?

        • @edfoo: Are you using mobile site?

        • @TRENT86: No. Checking it on my desktop PC.

        • @edfoo: That is weird, show plenty of stock for me, I'm using IE If that helps

        • @TRENT86: Just check this link: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sony-alpha-a5000-16-50mm-lens… on both Chrome and IE, both say out of stock every store.

        • @edfoo: yeah I'm seeing out of stock for 2000. Broadway, Moore Park, Bondi, Alexandria etc

        • @ippy: Lol I see in stock for Broadway, North Ryde, Balgowlah, Gordon & Auburn in Syd. This is so weird

        • +2

@TRENT86: You are corrent Trant86. We all have been clicking on the "Check store stock" tap on that above link I provided, and it lists all the stores in Australia are out of stock. However if I clicked the green "Add bundle" button, it took me to a new screen which allows me to check all the nearby stores, and it did list stock available in Broadway, North Ryde, Balgowlah, Gordon and Auburn. By the way I spoke to staff at Broadway and he informed me the last one has just been ordered online, but there were still 14 units available in Auburn. So I ordered one online to be picked up in Auburn. Thanks Trent86. Such confusing Hardly Normal website :-/

        • This could be because the kit lens is out of stock and is on back-order.

I called up my local HN for the A6000 deal, and the reason they were out of stock for all stores was because they had no lenses in store and were waiting for their order to arrive. I was able to reserve an A6000 bundle and picked it up yesterday when the lens arrived. It is probably the same for this deal, as HN only order a few lenses at a time (I think the guy said my lens was 1 of 3 ordered…)

  • So is this actually a working deal or not?

    • Yes, though $25 voucher can not be applied so the price in title should be adjusted.

      • +1

Yeah trying to find out whats going on with it now :)
Edit: Hey guys, sorry but the code isn't working because it's a bundle and screwing up the system. So price will be $393 after cashback

  • Please note this camera is now replaced by the alpha 5100

other tests about this camera from early, mid 2014 say

    Strengths,
    compact,
    180° screen
    Wifi and NFC
    easy to use
good pic quality to 3200 ISO
possibility to fiddle with PASM in video mode (not sure what that is i never film)
    standardised interface with RX range.

    Weaknesses
Zoom quality of 16-50mm OSS a bit disappointing and random results
    Slow to start up
screen isn't tactile and lacks definition

Alpha 5000 replaces the entry model Nex 3N and would gain the voices of those hesitating between a 3N and 5N. A good choice for those wanting to begin in photography or looking for a second compact box. The 16-50mm OSS really spoils the fun for everyone.

(quick translation from 'les numeriques' reliable 100% independant unbiased website)

    • any reason to get the a5100 over this?

edit: hmm touchscreen.. which is very convenient imo. how cheap has the a5100 slk been before?

      • I wouldn't know ~ I was just parroting the website ^^ from what i read it is good for a beginner wanting a compact camera the rest i guess is the price difference. I don't like touchscreens on cameras, but the lack of definition of the screen would be a bit of a pain.

  • I am looking for A6000 so if anyone is selling one (or knows a sale going on somewhere) please let me know. Thanks

    • They have the A6000 For $686 after cashback

      • where?

        • +2

HN But in store only, I think Jbhifi is also on special $699 after cashback

        • Give them a call. When I called up, they had no lenses in stock (ordered, waiting for shipment) and hence not available.

      • Thanks, TRENT86. I might have to check Harvey Norman tomorrow (well, today since it's 1:30 here now).

    • I'm waiting for the A5100 to go on sale, it's got the A6000 image quality and focus speed but all the features that A6000 missed out on.

    • I have one up for sale. Just the body, $600. Comes with box, etc and barely used. PM me if you're interested. It will go up on fleabay/gumtree soon.

      • A used one, just the body & $600? Sorry, that's over my budget for a used one at the moment. Thanks for the reply anyway.

  • Lol, thanks for the revision. Should've seen my face when I first saw this…

Lol should have seen mine, quick quick :)

  • Seemed to be $388 not long ago & I had the Amex promo added to my card at the time https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176954

If $25's not available, I'm gonna pass

    • 7 months is a long time :P and the aussie $$$ has dropped from parity to little over 70 cents…
unless the dollar goes back up, this is probably a good price for quite some time to come.

      • It's common for retailers to increase their prices when there is a cash back promotion.

  • I just price matched at JBHiFi Chermside to $500 (with $100 cash back to come). They don't have boxed stock, but they are available for pickup at JB Kedron which is about 5min drive down Gympie Rd toward the city. Also available at Carseldine if you live out that way.
Not quite as good as HN, but still $99 off the ticketed price.
Ask for Jill. I'm sure she'll appreciate the business.

The $25 newsletter discount voucher now works, making the price $368 (inc cashback)!

Harvey Norman has changed the bundle, so it's now just one item. (Camera & lens kit).

  • Thanks OP, got one, one left in castle hill.

  • I'm so torn on this because I want the white one - and I've seen the other good deals for the alphas at the start of this year.
Has anyone seen a good deal on the white one?

Do you think there's likely to be other sales or should I just get the black one? Hmmm

    • I would check your local m8 and see if any white are in stock or if they can order a white in for you

      • Thanks :) that's a good idea. The website doesn't list the white one at all, but who knows.

  • +2

Just in case anyone else is new to this, you can't obtain the cashback if you purchase through a grey importer.
Eg. these guys have it for $394 (plus $36 shipping, silly) but cashback is a no-go, so its still costs more than harvey norman.
    http://www.camerasky.com.au/sony-alpha-a5000-ilce-5000l-with…

On top of that, who knows if they'll really help out with warranty issues and etc. Oh, and no GST either if you're thinking of TRS.
