  • 4300mAh

Wowsers, Impressive for something so slim and small screen wise.

Edit: I continued to look at the image and noticed the back is fairly curved so not such a slim device ;) … which would make sense.

    • Product size says 14.58 x 7.15 x 0.99 cm

so 99mm thick (thickest point?) which is not exactly svelte but that's what most people's phones come to when they stick their phone into a battery case or even into a just an ordinary phone case.

This is the phone you'll want to use naked without a case.

      • its 9.9mm thick, 99mm would equal 9.9cm
also for $155 i won't really care if i scratch it or drop it
going to be using it without a case

Samsung, LG, Nokia, you see this? Please get to making a phone with a battery that actually lasts a full day, especially now that most of your flagships are 1080p resolution and above.

    Regards,
    your ex-customer.

    • the processor is crap.
      MTK6735 64bit Quad Core CPU
      LOL

      • more than enough to handle android 5.x and 6.x if they optimise the OS as Alphabet claims :p

in theory 6.0 should be more resource friendly than 5.x so better off getting a phone that gives official upgrades from the phone maker

MTK have closed kernel sources and did not make them open source until late 2014. Not sure about this particular chipset but it was difficult for anybody to build AOSP and create ROMS for mediatek devices. Now they've gone open source, but I'm not really up to date in terms of development and support for the newer MTK chipsets.

MediaTek gets a lot of bad rep mainly because cheap-low end phones all run a MTK processor, although the reality is that many cheap MTK phones beat the ever living hell out of big-brand phones in the budget category, in terms of performance and value.

        • @scrimshaw: I agree. I am not sure about the higher end chinese smart phones, but at the budget end of the market they provide bag for your buck you can't get from big companies.

    • Nokia? The Lumia I recently replaced lasted about a week between charges.

      • Yeah, but there's these things called Apps that allow you to use your phone for more than just calls and texts. Microsoft reckon they might try releasing a few in the coming years if this passing fad lasts that long.
        /sarcasm

        • …What?

If you're trying to say that I only used it for calls and texts then I don't know wtf you're on about.

    • +1

Chinese mAh are not particularly accurate .

  • HD Screen (1280 x 720)

    Hmmm… Seems low?

    • +1

Fine for a screen size this small imo. Colour reproduction and viewing angles are more important. I've been very impressed by my girlfriends 720p Lumia 820 vs my Sony Z2. I find it hard to tell the difference in resolution and prefer the colour reproduction of the Nokia.

    • +1

yeap, it is low.. but remember, at 5.0 inch, it is ipad air level of pixel density, It also give more juice to the battery…

actually a plus for battery usage department

  • +2

So is the price low. You want flagship specs on a $150 phone?

  • best thing on this phone: Battery and the lower res screen :)
I doubt software support be any good

I would put my money on likes of ZTE, Lenovo, Xiaomi etc that has much better software support which would likely see android 6.0 throw on to these devices …

latest sub 200 AUD (RRP) phone by ZTE is this

Gearbest is also a terrible seller when it comes to postage. I've been waiting a month for my last purchase and they've only sent it off as of yesterday!

  • +2

The battery looks big on paper, I bet it's not even 3000mah in reality.

    • i have a JIAYU which has a 3000mAh battery and there are videos online validating it as very close to that, so i expect it is close to what is claimed.

      • +6

Chinese MaH specifications are never to be trusted, even if it's from a 'trusted' brand. Best to not make any assumptions.

        • Lenovo's battery claims are accurate.

      • +1

You have to know that Jiayu is a more reputable brand than Mlais (Sort of like Kia v.s Greatwall if using cars to compare, meaning both aren't very good but the former is still significantly better).
Now I have no experience with this phone so I'm just putting the idea out there.

  • yeah a month from gear best is about right for delivery but you can pay extra and get faster shipping 1 month is the free shipping option

  • Why another chinadroid with no NFC?

  • -1

would have bought if it was dual sim

    • +3

      it is dual sim

      • +14

Haha he has to buy it now.

  • considering that the bands covered is done in software to drive the chipsets I'm disappointed they don't include 700 MHz my Samsung s5 has 700 MHz and it's now a new release phone.

    • +2

It's not always software, MTK chips always have less bands covered and I'd say it's hardware. (and this is exactly the advantage of Qualcomm)

  • 14 hour video playback thats pretty good

  • +2

No notification led, which must be one of the cheapest features to add and very handy.

  • Looking for a replacement phone.

Can't spend the big bucks on a HTC/Samsung/ LG.

More that happy with a china droid, but the 'gear best' negativity is concerning…….??

    • +3

Gearbest are slow but are a reputable seller by chinese standards .

  • might be the way to go…

    Australia Line (TOLL) ( $7.86)

  • hrmn…. tempting.

Ok got one for Total cost Commodity price : 99.99 + Delivery costs: 2.99 3-8 day delivery
= USD 102.98 about $143 aus Use code MXGB at check out

  • XDA discussion topic - keeping my eyes on this. This phone does indeed interest me. Hoping for some custom ROM support..

  • How did the OP get the original price of 109US? It's coming up as 139US for me. I see Paulaus post but I still want to get how op got that price if possible.

    • Use code

    • Following the post link it comes up at $109.99 USD for me, changing to AUD it's $144.32. There's no code or trick, bizarre that it'd be showing you $139 unless you've got it set to some other currency?

      • Why pay 109 Use code and it's 99 US

        • My point was that there's no code to make it show up at 109. Great that there is a code to make it cheaper but I'm not sure it'll get it down from 139 for tarulov3 which is what I was responding to.

I've asked the mods to add your code to this deal so it's a bit more obvious and not buried in comments.

        • Paulaus, I just wanted to know because if the op can get it at 109 US without coupon, does it not mean if he or she uses the coupon they could get it for a better price? I definitely can get your price, I have tried but if it can be had or a better price then why not? Cheers.

        • @tarulov3: The $109 price was I think part of the flash sale. When you browse the phones it shows as $139 but when you clicked into the individual phone listing it changes to $109. I just tried the code with the $109 price and it still only drops to $99.

This one is similar, but only 6.9mm thick.
    http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_217535.html

    • +1

Yeh there are quite a few with similar (or better) specs, but to me the battery was the stand out feature on this one, and the price was slightly better than the others too.

    • That one is actually very nice.
Given that this doesn't have notification LED, this is also very tempting.

  • +1

beware of mlais. I've had an M52 and an M4 and they are both garbage. both got bright spots on the screen within a month and the m52 glass broke from a 1 foot drop onto tiles, both the gps units in them were weak and unusable. Waste of money. Im back with my motog and couldn't be happier.

    • lets hope they have improved

  • What's the sim size for these? i read on some site it's micro and mini, i thought they were to same?

    • SIM Card Type: One is Standard SIM Card, the other is Micro SIM Card

  • +1

Make sure you get the white one….

    Apparently that retails for $337.

At least of the phone is crap you'll feel soooo much better about saving more money.

    The green is $267
    Black only $180.

Somehow I think they are playing with us.

  • got email says mine is posted lets see if it gets here in 3-8 days

  • Help just received mine but its in chinese and cant work out how to change it to english

    • i haven't received mine yet, but i have a few chinese coworkers so can get them to help and will let you know how.

      • I sorted it out in settings scroll down to the 16th item icon it is a circle with 2 lines down and 2 across it. Click it then click first line in there and then you can see all the languages.

        • thankyou. I still haven't received mine, but this will make it easier.

    • How do you find the phone so far?

  • It seems ok long battery life, i dont find the screen as sharp especially text as my zenfone 5 and heavier. But it is dual 4g so thats the big plus.I dont play games so cant help you there and camera is nothing to rave about.

    • Nah that's cool. Good enough summary to me.
Snappy enough? Software polished enough or are you finding random bugs/force closes here and there?

  • I haven't noticed any lag or force closes all good there. You can set phone to turn off and on at a certain time which is handy and gestures to open apps when in standbye.

  • Gearbest have cases for these now I just ordered one $5.91 delivered.

    http://m.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_229411.html

    • thanks. I already ordered a case from aliexpress, but still haven't received either the phone or case.

      • I think it worked out $4.50 after applying credits for buying the phone

  • I'm in Philippines and went for a walk with phone in pocket wifi was on but not in range and had a GPS software running. Got a warning pop up saying battery is too hot please remove wtf lol.

    • I guess the upside is it gave you a warning not just melted down in your pocket. still haven't received mine. I got an email from gearbest saying it is at my local post office for me to collect, but they didn't specify which one and I haven't had a delivery notification.

      • You must have a local one you normally get parcels from give them a call.

  • yeh I will tomorrow. If it comes via post is usually goes to the main one, but it seems some courier companies have a deal where they leave the smaller local one so I need to try both.

    • How's the phone.

  • Great so far, but it is early days. I guess at that price you can't go too wrong.
