Warranty on fragrances?

I have purchased a couple of weeks ago a fragrance at chemists warehouse. I didn't use it straight away and when i opened it i noticed that the pump doesn't work properly, it hardly sprays anything. I didn't keep the receipt, i have never had a warranty claim on a perfume so i didn't think it would be different this time.

I took it back to CW and explained my problem but they said they can't do anything without the receipt. Since the manufacturer is Calvin Klein i tried to find some contact details in Australia but wasn't able to. Is there anything else i can do or should i just throw it away?

TIA

  • did you pay via eftpos/credit card - if so get a statement and show them that you bought it (wont show the item but will show the company and amount)

    • No, unfortunately i paid cash.

  • How is it broken?
For new perfumes, you have to pump like 10 times till you get product out.
If you can pull the part where you press down and reveal the little tube, you could buy one of those travel pumps like these

    • Tried all of that. I took it to the CW and the lady that works there tried too. She said it is faulty and she needs OK from manager to replace it. He declined it

  • I wonder if you could return it. Surely they would suspect that you at least half of it would be water.

    • How would you do that? It is a sealed bottle

Not much you can do without proof of purchase unfortunately, just a shame you didn't pay by card so that you at least had a bank statement. I don't think there's anything you can legally do otherwise, up to the mercy of the store and they've denied. It seems strange that it's sealed so that there's no way you can get it… Are you sure there isn't a way to access it, I mean they had to put the liquid in there somehow!?

    • They put the liquid in the bottle first, then the pump and then seal it :)

Since when (in this century at least) are perfumes not sealed?!!!? Never fondled a perfume bottle before?

      • I don't get around to doing as much fondling as I should but I just thought there must be some way to dismantle the bottle by breaking the seal or something

Buy another one then return the faulty one with new receipt.

Probably the only way to not waste the money spent on it :(

      • If all else fails, you could look for empty perfume spray bottles (like eBay?) and empty the contents into it. Would something like that work?

  • Nick a new pump

  • Yes, just steal and/or fraud your way out of this…

  • You can use your bank statement or credit card statement as proof of purchase.

The following youtube video is very informative regarding the returning of goods.

Didnt you read? She/he paid cash.

      • sorry. I missed it.

  • visit Daiso and buy a small perfume bottle, then swap the contents.

Otherwise just transfer it into a small bottle and apply it to the skin by holding skin over the bottle, flipping, then putting the lid back on)

  • Lesson learned. If you read the signs around the CW shops, They are hard on returns. They won't do more than the law requires. If in doubt don't buy there.

Buy another one then take back the faulty one with your new receipt and say you want a refund instead of a swap over :)
