Correct. Anything above $24.50 is now too much.

  • +1

I got one for $27, missed out on $24.50, but I'm pretty impressed with them so I'm considering a second one for the other TV. I might wait until another $24.50 or less though… they can't stay at prices this high forever.

  • Are you sure OW will do 10% price beat?

  • +1

If already three Apple TVs is there any point in having these let's say I purchased two of these thinking I can do more etc etc but been told pointless having these if already have apple TVs what more can I do with these they are still in there boxes and may sell them but just wondering.

    • +45

Tried www.google.com/translate but sorry can't help

      • +26

        I believe I have translated:

If I already have three Apple TVs, is there any point in purchasing having these? Let's say I purchased two of these thinking I can do more than an apple TV can do etc, etc. However, but I have been told that it is pointless having these if I already have enough apple TVs. What more can I do with chromecast these that I can't do with apple TV? They are still in thereir boxes and I may sell them, but just wondering.

    • sell to for $25

commas mate, use some commas please.

      • and some full stops.

        • I say baby steps :) commas are a good start.

    • +1

      bwatt you say mate?

  • Nah, I'll be pissed forever until it gets to that price again

  • -1

"but don't want to pay $49" you are sounding just like Dick Smith with your advertising, as if someone will pay $49 when these things are on sale every other week.

    • +2

When you need one, there's no sale in sight. I don't regret paying 49

    • +1

I didn't realise 'every other week' meant a month ago, but thanks for an awesome 4th ever comment :)

      • Thanks for taking it to a personal level, I appreciate that :-)

        • +2

Hey, he's just exercising his right to Free Speech!

        • -6

@XeKToReX: not quite, rather more subjective than objective I would say. I joined less than 24hrs ago and the best he came up with is that it is my 4th comment. I was told that there are huge egos on OzB and bullying and now I can experience it myself, after all we need to share the good things in life ;-)

        • @FreeSpeech: well :) how would you feel if you were compared to Dick? Also grow a thicker skin.

        • @FreeSpeech:

          and bullying

After someone has gone to the trouble of finding a deal that is in fact cheaper than RRP, and considering that for over a month these have been sold at RRP, one of your first comments is to antagonise the OP with comments like:

you are sounding just like Dick Smith with your advertising

          and

as if someone will pay $49 when these things are on sale every other week.

          Without any shred of evidence?

Maybe have a good hard look in the mirror. And if you don't think a post is a deal, then just move right along! Because at last check, 38 people think differently and are thankful for this post.

    • Enjoy the penalty box Mr Duplicate Account :)

  • I have a fetch TV box hooked up to my non-smart TV.

Is there anything to gain from getting a Chromecast dongle as well?

    • +1

I only use my CC for Stan and Presto now that I have Fetch.

Hopefully Fetch will soon get a Stan app:

      http://televisedrevolution.com/streaming/stan-apps-are-actua…

…and seeing as it already has Netflix and Youtube, plus a decent DLNA client, Fetch has most things covered IMO.

    • +1

For 2nd TV in most cases. But ozbargainer are just sucked in good deals (like 24.50 from OW) and they find some excuse to buy it.

E.g. Incase your fetch tv needs repairs, Chrome cast would be there as backup.

      • to kirt and dadeadman, I am very appreciative of your help, and if I am having any more kids, I'll name the first kirt and the second dadeadman in your respective honours

        • +1

I hope for your sake that you had the operation ;)

  • -3

Obviously they forget to do a search on past ozbargain deals. It is indeed very very 'special' to sell a Chromecast for more than $30. Go do some homework first.

  • +1

    ABOUT $13.50 way too expensive

  • +1

Thanks! Been looking out for one

  • My Netflix app on Windows Media Centre is being shutdown in September so need to find some better device - will wait till September for a $24 deal -_-

  • For those picking up a new phone you might want to give JB Hifi a try as they are giving out a free Chromecast (+ $20 Google Play voucher) with some of their Android phones.

  • I love chromecast. Got it for free when I signed up with belong. Would have never purchased one as was never impressed with apple tv (albeit they are much the same).

  • +8

was about to head to officeworks to pay $49, then saw this. My dad is having a hip replacement so am sorting this out for him so he can watch some Netflix!!! I AM A GOOD SON

    • +5

A better son would donate his own hip for the replacement

      Try harder

      • I value your feedback and will take this on board.

  • -1

    $24.50 was a price error.

    • +1

no it wasn't. i ordered to of them from OW and got both of them

  • How exactly does Chromecast work?

Basically, if I want to watch the NBA Game Time app on my Samsung Series 6 TV, this will do it?

Does it in anyway use my data on my phone? For some reason I find this hard to understand… I have an Apple TV on my other computer and I understand that. lol.

    • +1

It just streams your video from device to TV, so yes it still uses whatever data you were before.
You would have to check whether the Game Time App is compatible with Chromecast. A quick google search suggests it is compatible.

      • +2

Thanks mate. I figured as much, I can just do Samsung screen mirroring for that from Galaxy to TV I guess - I just don't like having my phone tied up while I'm watching sports etc.

        Thanks for the response!

        • +1

I believe you can leave the app at background while watching it.

        • Its awesome as you can cast a game and then watch another one on your phone if you so chose or as mentioned have the phone free to do whatever.

      • It doesn't steam from your device unless you're doing mirroring which most of the apps don't. For example the YouTube app does a simple handover so the data is coming from your wifi not your phone.

The NBA app has Chromecast support. I've only used it to watch highlights though not full games

  • Seriously, again? What's the special of chromecast??

    • show us a well built android TV stick for cheaper.

  • +2

It should be free now that's even better than $24.50.

  • just bought mine, one of the twins from the Block was in front of me in the line.

  • +1

My TV is on a wall mount where I can pull it out and swivel it 180 degrees. I forgot I had the chromecast connected when I pulled it out to swivel the other day. The device broke in two, and so I need a replacement. Good timing thanks OP.

Thought I could take advantage of the HN $5 voucher by creating another email and signing up to their newsletter. Sadly they now have a $25 voucher for a $150 minimum spend.

These things are useless for streaming sport. Bought it in the hope to stream NRL games to my television and the pixelation and lag is terrible…. I even went to the length of replacing my router to rule out my wifi being the issue…

    • Well I stream, MLB & NBA and do not have a problem so it has nothing to do with the chromecast.

    • I had no issues with AFL either.

  • Finished?
    Shows me $49 now.
edit-I was looking at Officeworks website, just ordering now.

    • +1

Cheapest price currently on the market @ $38 is.

    • +1

So 5% off the cheapest price isn't a deal? Damn, better go neg a majority of posted deals.

  • I've got a complete overkill of a HTPC (i7 2600K, 280X) sitting next to my tele and I still find uses for the Chromecast - it is much easier to just cast a video to the chromecast from an ipad or phone than it is fussing around with desktop youtube on the HTPC. so for that reason alone, its definitely worth it!

EDIT - although I snagged four of them in the last $24.50 officeworks sale so I won't bite again this time ;)

  • +5

The worst thing to me is i was actually working for Officeworks and i did not know Officeworks has the Chromecast for $24.50 at that time until one guy came into the store to pick up the online order which is the Chromecast. When i saw the paper i was thinking is that price for real??!! how could i not know this?!

That feeling of missing out a super great deal is just unbearable…

    • the price of $24.50 was an error.

      • Okay thanks, that just made me sadder as i guess this price will not ever come back again:( Ugghhh~~~

  • I just bought a Chromecast and combined it with the VideoStream App, it is fantastic for sending whatever video/movie to the TV. Even better my mobile can control the Playback and my Girlfriend can as well.

Should be fun when we have differing opinions about what to watch and who wants to control what ;-)

  • I like this one

  • Officeworks unfortunately apps out at the store I went to. It's also no longer listed on their website.

So I went to my local good guys after checking online that they price beat.

The guy at the good guys that served me first doubted me when I told him about the Harvey Norman deal, then after checking absolutely everything and complaining about not making any money, he price matched it.

I asked whether he meant price beat as that's what your website states. He said the website will "definitely not say that" so I pulled out my phone and showed him your own company website.

He then told me off and had a go at me before reducing 50 cents. He then told me to go away and go pay.

If I wasn't in such a rush this morning, I honestly would not have bought it. The customer service is beyond horrible.

    /rant over

    • +1

I know I put the price beat there as a cheaper way of getting it, but unfortunately sometimes it's not worth the hassle :/ sorry to hear about your experience but enjoy the Chromecast :)

      • Thanks Spackbace! Enjoying it. Am trying to get VPN Netflix and chromecast working! Chromecast works when VPN is off… The new problem is distracting me from being annoyed!! =)

    • +1

Some people shouldn't be in retail

  • Don't believe on Havey Norman online purchase system as they advertise "In-Stock" but not really with them
