Does he answer how to get duped by the government into doing ads for them ?

    • +7

Yes, but not in the book:

      http://www.skynews.com.au/news/national/2015/04/15/dr-karl-s…

Copt quite a bit of flack for it, I recon it ultimately backfired for the govt tho. Dr Karl said he would donate the fee to schools, kudos to him.

Too little too late. He permanently lost my respect. And I thought highly of him beforehand.

      • +2

Thanks, CT, didn't know about that.

Found this short interview where he explains himself.

        • WOW….is he the speech writer/adviser for Bronwyn Bishop and Dyson Heydon.

    • -2

      They paid him money.

    • 1) Be respected scientist
      2) Be offered money by the Government
      3) ???
      4) Profit (but public image might have taken a tad beating)

      • -7

Is he respected? I upset someone here with my comment above about his doing some ads for money, just like his appearances on various shitty TV shows for money. Just another media clown doing the rounds for our "bread and circuses".

      • I +1 this by mistake.
        How is he a scientist?

    • +1

      Tony Abbott lackey…what a SELL OUT !!!

    • +4

"Trivia" it's right there in the title

    • +9

I'm pretty sure we didn't need to know that.

    • +2

Well surely you'd like to be able to say you know at least one thing…

  • Thanks lots.
Great light weight reading after a heavy day.
    Excellent find.

  • Nice find - Thanks OP - Much appreciated

  • thanks. grabbed it from Google and Amazon (US).

  • Dr Karl rules. I have not seen the TV ad though. I dont watch TV much - too much spin.

  • Does anyone know how much it is normally?

    #102:

Dr. Karl doesn't have a PhD, he's a Medical Doctor.

    • +1

I did not know that, so Dr. Karl is just a Doctor then, not a Doctor. Actually I did, he's a Gyno Doctor. Yikes I need a doctor, my head hurts…

    • Dr karl has a bunch of degrees. including a Master of Biomedical Engineering. which led to doing the MBBS.

Was a member of the Australian Institute of Physics before the MBBS, so definitely qualifies as a scientist.
Also a Member of the Order of Australia, and IgNobel laureate.

      • According to his CV (PDF), he has two degrees:

        • Master of Biomedical Engineering. (M. Biomed. E.), 1980
        • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. (MB, BS), 1986
        • He must have been good to get into a Masters program without a bachelors degree :)
He also has B.Sc. and MSc (Qual.) And a long-running radio show …

          his CV (PDF)(drkarl.com)

My career counselor always tells me that a good CV is 2 pages long, 3 max.

If I was an employer and saw Dr Karl's resume, I would chuck it in the trash for being so long-winded. As if I have the time to read all of his life achievements!

        • @DeafMutePretender:

Apparently an Academic CV is a different manner of document to one that people use to apply for a job. Carl Sagan reputedly had one that went to 250 pages long…

        • -1

          @zzyss:

Is Carl Sagan's CV font size 250?

  • Thanks for the heads up :)

Dr Karl's full name is: Karl Sven Woytek Sas Konkovitch Matthew Kruszelnicki.

Lucky he goes by Dr. Karl, otherwise it would't be a little book of trivia.

    • Sven

      Swedish?

      Konkovitch

      Russian?

      • Second one, K…, is probably Polish. Both of his parents were Polish Holocaust survivors, but he was born in Sweden. "Matthew"is interesting, as the Swedish version would be Mats, Mattias, or Mathias. His family didn't emigrate to Australia until he was two, so perhaps his parents long-term plan was to do so, and Matthew was a nod to his proposed home.

  • Amazon US shows as $0 but as soon as I log in the price changes to $2??? WTF?
    Amazon AU worked.

    Thanks
