[VIC, NSW, QLD] IKEA - NiMH Battery Charger $15 (save $5), 4xAA/AAA Rechargeable LSD Batteries $4

490

Basically, you need to register (free) for IKEA family from in-store, or online here: https://secure.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/secure/family/index.html

After registering, you can print out a temporary card, which can be used for their discounts. I registered in store and it printed out a temporary barcode for me.

After the discount, the 4xAA/AAA charger is only $15, which is a steal, considering it's a fast (2.5 hour) smart charger with four individual charging channels.

The charger will work well with eneloops, the Ikea batteries mentioned below, or any other Ni-MH batteries.

4xAAA batteries: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/30240584/

These batteries are ofcourse rechargeable, and are LSD. They've been tested by people at BLF and CPF, and they're pretty decent in terms of cycles (similar to chinese Eneloops), and capacity. Their LSD is abit inferior to Eneloops, so if you're going to be charging them once 1-2 years, you may consider Eneloops.

how long is the discount for? The family discounts usually only lasts for so long and something else gets discounted afterwards.

    • I noticed it last week. Honestly have no idea how long it'll be up for!

    • I want to know the end date as well. Do not want to miss out this awesome deal!

  • Bought a few myself today ;)

  • It appears that these batteries may work with an eneloop charger then.

Thanks for posting this. Knew they sold batteries but not chargeables.

  • 500 charge cycles.

  • Batteries half price in WA/SA - 4 for $10 :-(

AAA 4 for $20. With such margins, it is amazing that Ikea makes no profit in Australia, still. According to their tax return.

    • Yep :-(
Saw it last time and bought "$2.95/ 10 pack" for alkaline..

How do we extract the LSD?

Dip paper tabs into the electrolyte and lick it. It should give you a small buzz (~1.2 volts if you use all of it), but be careful this batch of LSD could probably make you sick.

  • the 'wrapping' of the batteries suggests that they are re-branded gp recykos, so the price is quite good if you're not in SA/WA. i have some recykos and they're quite 'fat' which may be a problem.

the charger is not bad either!
although i would prefer this for a similar price, with pros and cons.

  • Is this a good charger for eneloops or can someone suggest a better one for less/similar price? So far I have not needed to recharge any eneloops because I have so many but I probably should get one eventually.

There is no buttons on the charger, only a single indicator. It is red when any of the four channels is charging and changes to green when all channels are idle.
I.e. it is not possible to know if one battery is finished, only if all batteries are finished.

    err

this is not a good charger

you really need individual lights to check charge status of each battery

like also how do you now if a battery is faulty… my charger flashes the channel led

    • Yea that would shit me. TBH the last ALDI charger is great, apart from the fact this at it suffers from the same issue many smart chargers suffer from in that it won't trickle charge a completely flat battery, but I have a dumb charger for that. It also has individual percentage charged and can charge up to 6 AA/AAA at once and all other side batteries. Granted it's not always available.

Also while some people may want a fast charger, you will generally get better results with a slower charger than this provided you can wait.

Any recommendations for a good charger?

  • Big thanks to OP. Deal is still on (as of yesterday 22/8)

  • Batteries sold out at IKEA Homebush. Charger still available. (29/8)

  • Plenty of batteries and chargers in stock at the Logan store as of 28/8. The batteries I looked at all had a production date of August/October 2013.
