      • You believe in that bullshit? I remembered in the 90s people were protesting against Telstra and Optus installing phone towers in suburban areas around shopping centres. Now no one gives a toss about it.

Little bit cheaper at Gearbest: 153.69 USD
    http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_180346.html
Don't know about the ROM, you gonna flash it anyway.

    • What's it cheaper than?

    • +3

How is US$153.69 less then US$136.99?

      • The way that I can't read, sorry :)

      • +1

If you read the number backwards :)

  • +2

I can recommend the Meizu M2 Note,I have this phone already,it has option in settings to root and it also can install Google apps.

    • Thats good because i ordered one, and have no idea how to root anything except my career prospects.

  • +1

    Which has the best camera?

  • -1

I know this is probably asked many times - Meizu or K3 note? Which is better? Which supports most of the 4g bands used here?
This site here says Meizu is better in every aspect…except for removable battery.
    http://smartphones.specout.com/compare/3116-3513/Lenovo-K3-N…

    • The CPU on the Lenovo is 400MHz faster too.

  • ha ha SAR scoring put me off. Thanks anyhow

    • What recent phones have you owned?

      • Asus Zenphone 5 (T00J) and Huawei G526.
Cant seem to find the SAR values for Meizu

Guys, jump on the Redmi Note 2 instead. I bought two from a reliable eBay seller in HK who says it will arrive by next week. None of this lead time crap. And only $255 with 2% cash back.

It has 850mhz, the 4G bands, as fast as any flagship.

    • +1

      This one?

Seems to be the only one on eBay. Wonder if they're some of the 800,000 bought for AU$169.95 (US$125).

      Actually, I think that's the lower-spec'd model.

      • Yes, that's the one. It is lower specced as it is 2Ghz not 2.2Ghz, but this will improve battery life. It might also be possible to overclock. The 16GB vs 32GB doesn't really matter, as it has an SD card slot.

I didn't get any message today saying that it shipped, I hope I get one tomorrow.

The price of US125 was never going to be for international clients at this stage, all the international sites have it for around $175-$200.

        • So have you received the phone yet?

I got a bit put off that seller when I saw some negative feedback which said something like "Phone was not new as advertised. It smelled of fish and had a sticky substance on the screen."
          LoL

Looks like a nice phone though; I just ordered one today.

  • Do these support NFC for payments?

    • No

  • I gather it's too much of an ask for a decent customised ROM for either of these 2 models?

    • None of these will take vanilla android, or cyanogen etc?

  • +1

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know of a good retailer for the newly released Xiaomi Redmi Note 2? Especially with reasonable shipping times.

    • +1

      geekbuying from USD $169.85

      Gearbest from USD $168.85

both of these are presale prices.

phones are expected to be shipped from September 16th

The exact delivery time depends on the shipping method you choose.
      1) Expedited Shipping: Around 3-7 business days to arrive.
      2) Standard Shipping: Between 6-10 business days to be delivered.
      3) Flat Rate Shipping: Between10-25 business days to ship to the destination.
You can check the details in following link http://www.gearbest.com/about/shipping-methods.html

  • the Xioami RedMi note 2 is going to come in at this price range, hopefully that phone can flash windows 10 mobile, which can be a geeky sell point

  • It's true all variants of these redmi note 2 have SD card slots isn't it? It'll be USD150 by October then: FDD 16gb model?

In keeping with last year's my 1+1's updates kitkat through marshmallow, is Xiaomi pledging updates lollipop through nutella(2017)?? Never experienced a MiUI phone.

  • cheap

  • The russian version of the Lenovo k3 note wouldnot ship to Australia ? Any one ?

    • out of stock.

    • Same for me, tried last night. There is the more expensive version still available in the first post.

      • +1

Some said there is only one hardware version.

        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2393953&r…

        • Yeah I saw that, but I don't want to risk something that may not be fully compatible.

        • @ilikeit: dude trust me there is only one version.

        • @spy: mate you lost me with your double post about telstra wholesale network being on 900mhz network.I wasted precious time and money scouring the internet for proof. By that time both the cheaper options from the OP were sold out leaving the more expensive one from the first comment. Yes I am familiar with the WP above, and you are probably right (if we ignore the Chinatel), but trust you…

        • @ilikeit: apologies, was confused by others.

        • @spy: accepted. But it's pretty annoying how these Chinese sellers randomly advertise they're products. They just do themselves out of sales.

        • @ilikeit: agreed. Man I've ordered 7 of these phones for rellies from different sources listing different specs but they were all the same 100%

        • @spy: 7! What rom did you use? Indian ROW?

        • +1

@ilikeit: ROW on all. Stable and simple.

        • @spy:Do you have a link to the guide you followed?

        • @superforever: cheers big ears

        • @ilikeit:

          Also check out whirlpool.

        • @superforever: already read it all,saw you're on there.

    • Paying extra for 15 day postage was a bad idea?

      • Looks like it was because am sure people who paid extra got around the same time

    Updated Bandwidth Specs

On Saturday, I wrote to the seller re bandwidth specs of the first K3 Note posted by the OP. Today I received this reply

Seller: Hello, we just checked with official customer service of lenovo. This is the correct frequency. FDD-LTE: 2110-2170MHz/1850-1880MHz/2620-2690MHz TD-LTE: 2570-1920MHz/1880-1920MHz/2300-2400MHz/2555-2655MHz WCDMA: 2110-2170MHz/1930-1990MHz/869-894MHz/925-960MHz TD-SCDMA: 1880-1920MHz/2010-2025MHz GSM: 900/1800/1900MHz Thank you for leading us to this problem, thank you a lot.2015-8-24 12:4:14

The specs have subsequently been updated in the product description.

    • So in that case confirmed no 850 for 3G.

      • +2

        No, 850 is confirmed, i.e. Band 1 2110-2170 = 2100; Band 2 1930-1990 = 1900; Band 5 869-894 = 850; Band 8 925-960 = 900

        Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands

        • awesome. I have updated the description. thanks for the clarification of 850mhz. cheers

The one I bought is in Melbourne already! Waiting for delivery

    • What date did you purchase your phone? Amazing delivery time for standard shipping from China!

      • I bought two, one about 3 weeks ago and one abt 10 days ago surprisingly they both got posted during the same time

        • Thank you for your reply :-)

Maybe the phones are sent out in batches - which doesn't guarantee that everyone will experience quick delivery - it would be good if that were the case, though…

I am pondering whether to purchase the xiaomi redmi note 2 from the same seller @ USD 152.99 promotion price - will watch to see if the exchange rate picks up in the next couple of days

        • @kusala: please let me know when you receive it and how the phone is, I heard it is pretty good phone.
I hope you get it soon

    • So how's the phone?

      • I have the phone from last 1 month, I bought two more for mates. So far so good. the stock rom needs to be replaced as it contains lots of bloatware. apart from that fantastic, cant complain for $168 :p

        • Read my comment on the latest page, I have to install ROW ROM on it, the rooted firmware comes with it is pretty hard to deal with

  • My wife's nexus 5 just had its screen cracked, would it be better to buy this or just repair the screen on the nexus 5?

    • replacement screen is $45 delivered from aliexpress.

      • Thanks. I was going to repair it in the first place, I just wasn't sure whether she should then keep the Nexus 5 or sell it and buy a Lenovo.

        • the nexus is still a decent phone.

the K3 has similar if not slightly better specs.

possible option- buy the K3 (wife gets new shiny phone and is happy) , and replace the nexus 5 screen and sell on ebay.

  • Meizu M2 Note is bette

  • I have received the Phone for my mate already! Lucky he is

  • Deal back on new code JD999

  • I have received mate's phone that I ordered from JD.
It appears that the firmware installed in the phone this time is already rooted Vibe 2.5 Abroad_nanJ however I was unable to install Google play services.

I tried CWM recovery to flash GAPP pack and the google services error pops up.

I am going to install the ROW rom on it tonight.

Let me know if any of you encounter the same issue?

    thanks

    • No need to check the ROM came with it, forget it is hopeless.

      • I was unable to flash the rom on it , phone won't respond. I think this is due to Windows 10 am using :/

  • Can anyone who has received this phone comment on speaker volume and call volume?
Have read a couple of reviews saying they are not good.

    • +1

      No problems here.

  • +2

Have to comment that this phone is remarkable for the price. Very snappy and functional. Feels good in the hand, although a bit slippery. Getting 2 days out of the battery. Flashing ROW ROM took 10 minutes, even Stevie Wonder could do it!

    • Thanks for your reply might get one.

      • I used DHL for shipping and it took about 10 days. My first China phone and very pleasantly surprised.

        • so just to be sure no volume issues with it?

        • @stevednj48: Let me test it in the morning and I post back. I haven't any noticed poor volumes thus far.

        • @ilikeit:

          Thankyou

        • +1

          @ilikeit:

Shouldn't be a problem depends on ROM.

        • +1

@stevednj48: Tested. No issues here. Using ROW ROM.

        • @ilikeit:

thanks will get one and flash it.

  • Has anyone who has ordered a phone been able to see any tracking activity yet?

    • Mine never had tracking,it just turned up 10 days later.

  • My k3 has the right side of the touch digiter dead and seems like a common failure :(
