    Jesus that's like $2

        What if

        Jesus that's like $2!

    • +1

Depends what you use them for.

    • By my calculations 150 points = $1

      So 500 points = $3.33

      • This is not the best QFF->$ ratio.

        • But it's the cleanest and most consistent ratio. You said it's ~$2.

If, as you said though, it's not the best ratio, you'd have to say 500 points at $3.33 is an understated value of 500 points.

  • There are no savings here, just points.

    This belongs in the forums…

How is getting bonus points not a bargain?

Are you saying all those bonus points credit card offers are not deals?

      • +2

bonus points credit card offers are not deals?

        yep, that's what I'm saying…

Imagine all the 'deals' that could be posted for bonus flybuy points if people start doing this.

        • -1

Flybuys points are always associated with making a purchase.

For this deal there's nothing stopping you from loading $150 on the card today, and after a few days, withdrawing $150 using the same card from any Westpac ATM without any fees. For these actions alone you'll receive 500 bonus QFF points.

As a purchase is not required, it's technically better than a deal.

        • Aren't flybuys bonus points usually targeted offers?

        • @pood:

Not always, sometimes flybuys offers appear in Coles catalogues.

        • -1

@KaptnKaos: Actually, you are wrong, I have this card and used it overseas.
You have to load foreign currency, that means loading AUD converting to foreign currency (ie buy that currency) at a less than great rate. Then if you want the AUD back you need to do a parallel conversion back to AUD which will cost you again.
You also run the risk of currency fluctuations between the time you convert from and back to AUD.
          Free points? Hardly.

        • @rayski57:
You don't have to load FC, you can load AUD onto the card.

        • @rayski57:

Mate, you can load Australian dollars onto this card.

I myself have loaded funds onto this card before I had a rewards credit card, so that I could earn some points on my everyday card purchases. Once I got a rewards credit card, I went to a Westpac ATM quick smart and withdrew the remaining cash.

Prove to me that Australian dollars cannot be loaded onto this card, and then I'll consider myself wrong.

        • @KaptnKaos: I didn't say you couldn't load AUD onto this card and if you take your head out your behind and read what I actually said, you would see that's the case.
What I said was it's a condition of the promo for you to load AU$150 or equiv value in foreign currency i.e. the loaded amount has to be converted to another currency for them to give you the pitiful 500 points on offer.

        • +2

          @rayski57:

I've explained this very same issue elsewhere in this thread. If you care enough to find it, you'll realise that loading AUD is acceptable and Qantas themselves allow it as part of this promotion.

Nothing suggests that you have to convert the $150AUD into a foreign currency.

          From the OP's link:

To be eligible for the bonus 500 Qantas Points you must register by clicking on the 'Register Now' button in the email promoting the offer or register at qantascash.com/500points and

          load $150 in Australian Dollars
          or
          equivalent in foreign currency

in one transaction to your Qantas Cash facility by 29th August 2015. This offer may be extended and may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. Offer can only be redeemed once per person.

Can't make it any clearer than that, sorry.

        • +1

@KaptnKaos: I don't want to keep perpetuating this 'discussion' around what was said etc. but you don't seem to be able to read…..
You stated "Mate, you can load Australian dollars onto this card." & "Prove to me that Australian dollars cannot be loaded onto this card, and then I'll consider myself wrong."
As I said in my previous comment, I never stated you can't load AUD on to this card, I said that you can and that my understanding of the conditions of this offer require you to load AUD or foreign currency equivalent so that Quaintarse make their margin on the conversion.
STOP seeing what you THINK is there and read what is actually there.
          Now enough.

        • @KaptnKaos: I agree with the "either or" interpretation. Reading from the second screen, they have this sentence again but with the use of brackets.

          https://www.qantascash.com/500pointsconfirmation/

Already activated? Load a minimum of AU$150 (or the equivalent in foreign currency) in one transaction and enjoy 500 bonus Qantas Points

        • @akeno:

That makes the situation even clearer actually.
Unfortunately it probably still won't be clear enough in some cases.

        • @rayski57: Yea KaptnKaos misinterpreted what you said and responded as if you stated you it was not possible to load AUD on this card.. but otherwise I agree with his interpretation of the promo (as it seems you have after further reading). That is, I think you will be qualify simply by loading $150 AUD. There is no need to convert it to a foreign currency.

    • I don't this is an ordinary offer, and besides I can't think of many ordinary situations where QFF points are offered for free.

Akin to fee free credit cards (which, again are not ordinarily offered), I'd safely say this is a deal.

      • +1

where QFF points are offered for free.

        It's not free.

        • it doesn't cost you anything.
the $150 that someone was going to spend on crap has just earnt them 500 free points.
they aren't spending $150 on the points and that's where it ends, are they?

        • +2

          It's not free?? :O

I can load $150 on this card now and then withdraw the same $150 within a few days as described above.

          $150 loaded - $150 withdrawn = $0 loss + 500 QFF points gained.

*only accurate when $0 = free.

        • @KaptnKaos: Isn't that dependent on the "Qantas adjusted" exchange rate?

        • @Lukian:

No. You load AUD onto the card.

        • @Lukian:

$1AUD is always going to be $1AUD

      • I don't this is an ordinary offer, and besides I can't think of many ordinary situations where QFF points are offered for free.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/156630#comment-2174282? :)

        • Didn't think of that actually. I'll give you that :)

  • +1

not a bad deal, i'll take 500 pts for a few clicks of a button

  • if i load $150 AUD to USD do i still get the bonus points or does the USD need to equal minimum $150?
might be good for purchases i make on ebay.. or is there a better way to take advantage of the bonus points if i haven't got any trips planned?

    • +1

i think you're overcomplicating it, just load in aud then withdraw a week later, easy as

    • +1

Load in Australian dollars, then follow my comment above. All sorted.

      • it says only in foreign currency though
        3. Load at least AU$150 or equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction before 29 August 2015 and enjoy 500 bonus Qantas Points

        • +1

Let's look at it this way:

          Load at least

          AU$150 (= $150 in Australian currency)

          or

          equivalent in foreign currency

          You've got two options.

        • +2

@KaptnKaos: ooooh ok. thanks for that. was so confused.
i dont think im eligible for some reason.
i cant see the deal when i log into the page

        • +1

          @Hirolol:

          Don't worry about logging in.

Just click on the OP's link, fill in your details and your registered.

        • +1

          @KaptnKaos: niiiiiiiiice!!!
ill look forward to getting my FREE points!

        • @KaptnKaos: No, you have 1 option, they tried to clarify it by saying equivalent in foreign currency. It quite clearly states that you need to load foreign currency.
'3. Load at least AU$150 or equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction before 29 August 2015 and enjoy 500 bonus Qantas Points'

So there would be conversion rates ie currently offering AUD 1.00 = USD 0.6975 = Euro 0.6132 = JPY 84.6387 = GBP 0.4408.
Then you would need to consider the conversion back as well.

        • -1

          @rayski57:
your logic is flawed. loading "at least AU$150" satisfies the terms.
of course you could go ahead and load an "equivalent in foreign currency" and meet the criteria that way, nothing stopping you apart from extra fees and hassles of spending foreign currency

        • @powerhead: Please read condition 3 again specifically 'in foreign currency'
Admittedly the addition of a comma after 'or equivalent' may have made it clearer.
As far as I can understand using normally accepted conventions of the English language that means you need to load foreign currency onto the card.
To do this, you need to load it with AUD (unless you do it from a Forex account or offshore bank transfer etc.) and convert it to a foreign currency.
Hence my comment. Please don't neg for stating of facts.

        • @rayski57:

That's what the condition OR is there for - as in "either A or B".

If there is a comma after the word equivalent as you suggested, then one might argue that you have to load foreign currency. Although that then raise the question of what "at least AU$150 or equivalent" means because "at least AU$150" already specifies how much you need to put in.

        • +1

@Love a bargain: Hmmm, re-reading the conditions on their website makes what you say a possibility.
It's up for interpretation…perhaps what they wanted to happen is people read it the way I did and they make the margin on currency conversion.
Reading the conditions also points to the requirement for a registration and load by 29/8/15 i.e. can't be an existing account that hasn't previously been loaded with any currency - that's my wife's card, mine has been used…damn it, otherwise I'd try it with AUD only and see what happens to confirm what they actually mean (regardless of what & how they wrote).

        • @rayski57:

To be eligible for the bonus 500 Qantas Points you must register by clicking on the 'Register Now' button in the email promoting the offer or register at qantascash.com/500points and load $150 in Australian Dollars or equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction to your Qantas Cash facility by 29th August 2015. There is nothing in this to say that someone who's used Qantas Cash before can't register for the promotion. The registration requirement is probably put in to stop someone who load more than AUD150 on to their card without knowing about the promotion benefits from it.

        • +1

@Love a bargain: Maybe I was reading too much into it a la, lets see how we can limit the cost of this marketing campaign and attract only new customers.
Guess I'll get the missus to finally set hers up, then I'll load it and see what happens, worst case we'll just take it out again or she can use it as backup when she travels

  • $2 worth of QFF miles for an hour's work. What the heck, why not. I needed to dust off my Qantas Cash card and brush up on using it in case a real deal for it comes along hehe!!

  • +1

Although the card is a great concept, the foreign exchange rate is horrendous. There's about a 10% spread if I recall correctly.

    • +1

Of course that is the deal killer: poor exchange rate!
Which card has the best exchange rate and commission rate to be used in Europe?

      • +1

Don't even think of the Load & Go crap that Aussie post offer.
As I understand it the line of people being screwed over and having problems (us included) extends around the country.
Their website is crap and often won't accept the correct credentials, if you are forced to call their 'customer service' they charge you $4 for the privilege of doing so.
A trick that apparently catches people out for largish sums is when their card expires and they have a positive balance…the bank keep it. Also, if you already have one, don't cancel it, just empty it and destroy the card or they'll charge you to close the account.
We have a decent sum in Euro stuck on the card and will need to undergo the pain of talking with them and get access to the account so that we can convert back to AUD use it and destroy the card.

  • Qantas must have changed the terms and conditions recently.
When they first offered me, I recalled that there was a loading fee, a monthly fee if it was inactive for sometime.
Of course as an ozbargainer, I immediately told them I would not activate it. I have too many Credit cards, including 28 degrees, and CTI.

Are you sure there is now no fees, apart from 3% commission fee?

    • +1

yes they changed the terms soon after introduction

  • -1

You can't withdraw from an ATM….well you can but will not be eligible for the 500 points.
It's written in the terms and conditions.

    • +1

      incorrect.
ATM withdrawals dont attract qf points as opposed to purchases, simple as that. nothing to do with this promotion.

      • +2

You're right, the promotion is for the loading of foreign currency, not how you spend or withdraw those funds.
The standard 1 point/AU $1 applies to spending/paying bills with the card, not any form of funds transfer or withdrawal.

        • Keep in mind that ATM withdrawals from Qantas Cash and free only from Westpac and Westpac owned ATMs. Use other ATMs and you will wipe out the value of your 500 points in ATM fees.

    • +1

It's not their business what I do with my money after I load it onto the card. They're only interested in how much I load onto the card in a single transaction. What happens after that wouldn't and shouldn't concern them.

  • -1

    term and condition stated :

To be eligible for the bonus 500 Qantas Points you must register by clicking on the 'Register Now' button in the email promoting the offer or register at qantascash.com/500points and load $150 in Australian Dollars or equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction to your Qantas Cash facility by 29th August 2015. This offer may be extended and may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. Offer can only be redeemed once per person.

    "in the email"

    • +1

      or register at qantascash.com/500points

      • Lol.. i missed that part.. ha ha ha.. sorry

  • It seems that Qantas Cash has got bad reviews:
    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/qantas-cash.html

  • Are there any ATM fees for withdrawing the $150 from the ATM?

    • based on people's comment here (and some googling), no charge from the bank if withdraw from Westpac ATM, may be for other bank ATMs (CBA, etc). The Qantas cash issuer itself will not charge any.
myself havent tried it yet as i was not proceeding the activation

    • Heritage Bank (only available in QLD I think), Westpac, St George (& maybe others). Just look up ATM locations on Heritage Bank's website.

  • Online ID verification is quite difficult for me, NSW resident who is renting (not found in White Pages nor Electoral database for sure).. so its not a few clicks away - have to go to Aus Post in person to verify, print a form etc…

  • anybody got 500 qff points? I am still waiting to withdraw my 150 from atm after 500 qff in my account.

    • Don't think you need to keep the money on the card until you get the points. I withdrew mine the next day.

  • Had 1 point credited on the 27th September for the $1 i spent on the cash card (withdrew the rest at an atm).

Any ideas when the bonus points will typically get credited? Are they credited as a seperate transaction?
