    Hi OP,

there is a price error on the 4TB Red, correct price is $225

    regards
    SE

    • Just wondering about that.. Bought 2 from Amazon and 154 usd each

    • So we should get on it quickly, before you change it back
<EDIT> - Comes up as $225 in the cart even tho the site still says $159

      • should be fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

    • The link shows $159, add it to card and it magically discounts to $225!

and just like that im not interested. :(

    • got me excited with that pricing….

    • Seeing as bringing private matters to public attention seems to be the only way to get things resolved these days…

I spotted the WD Red 4TB drives at the originally posted price of $159 Monday morning. Not knowing this was a pricing error, I placed an order for four drives in good faith. Payment was made and an order confirmation email received.

Not long after, I receive an email from an SE representative. It basically informs me of the pricing error and that I must pay the difference for the order to proceed. Having had good shopping experiences with SE in the past, and knowing they've posted many good deals for the OB community previously, I was willing to let it go. I express my disappointment and ask for a refund.

It's now been three days and there's been no sign of a refund in sight. While emails to the SE representative that contacted me originally have yielded responses, they've only been to tell me they're "checking it now" and that I'll be "updated asap".

If only SE were as quick to refund as they are to point out pricing errors.

  • Apologies if this is too newbie or is answered elsewhere …

I run a photography business and need to backup/protect my photos. Will anything from the above help me do this (i know about also keeping data offsite)? What Raid am I best using?

I also want them network accessible so I can store centrally and access via laptop. Previously used an Iomega iConnect which did the job for sharing files but doesn't help with data protection.

I would also use it for movies and music storage/streaming :)

    Thanks for any help.

    • If you want plug n play, get a WD MyCloud. Has a WD Red drive inside which will give you better reliability.

  • Aw crap. I just clicked this to say that's a great price on the 4TB Reds.

  • Haha aww I was going to get one at $159!! At $230, MSY comes out to be basically the same price (non-special price too).

    Ahh well!

  • HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 $290 Delivered @ FUTU Online via ebay code https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208291

    • +1

Is Futu Online and Shopping Express are operated by same guys? I remember there were some comments confirming this earlier.

I'm saying this because FUTU online has WD Reds 4TB listed on ebay at $275.00
      (link : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Western-Digital-WD-Caviar-Red-4TB…)

SE has listed the same for $248.00 on their ebay store.
      (link : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Western-Digital-Caviar-Red-4TB-NA…)

I think it would be a fantastic deal if FUTU can list the 4TB on around $225.00 (as listed on SE promotion here) so that we can get the benefit of eBay's 20% off promotion as mentioned in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208273.

      just my thought…

      • Ebay has postage built into price as well as the transaction fees associated with an ebay transaction.

        • +1

Well, I said "around $225.00" to take in to account any fees they would additionally incur. I don't think you can justify $50.00 more for the postage and transaction fees.

  • Can you put Windows 10 straight on this or does it have to have server os? Been holding out for a decent deal to add another microserver, currently sporting a n40L with 5 x 4tb and ssd as windows primary and 16gb ecc. Anyone have ideas?

    • you can definitely install windows 10 on it, but maybe after you install the HP Proliant ServicePack which you can download from hp website.

  • Looks like the Intel xeonD is incoming!

For those who doesn't have a clue on how to set this up, here is a great tutorial including upgrading and configuring etc.
And for those who want to get an iLO advanced license, this is the lowest price, $23, I find on eBay.

    • also, more information can be found from this link, maybe helpful for anyone interested in this Gen8 Microserver.

Any i7 NUC sales coming up rep?

  • Just as my old 40L is dying, perfect timing! G8 ordered! Not as good as before, but still pretty good.

Only just saw the FUTU deal! I'll live…..

  • +4

Hey OP. It offensive to put your bullshit rrp on your website to make people think they are saving more money than they actually are. Youve never sold the G8 for $924.

    • haha… I am not a rep from SE. I just got this deal on an email newsletter today. I understand what you are saying tho. The RRP ($929) on SE website for HP Microserver G8 is a joke.

    • +1

ACCC's What are misleading prices?: "Misleading prices may include: … ‘savings’ or ‘discount’ statements when compared to the recommended retail price (RRP), but the goods have never been sold at the RRP or the RRP does not reflect a current market price."

  • Is the Gen8 worth the extra $50 for someone who is really just going to use it for storage and DLNA streaming?

Also, anyone know the difference between the 2 N54Ls? $10 difference, but the more expensive one seems to come with only 2GB of RAM vs the 4GB of the cheaper one?

    • +1

I would go for the G8 which has an Intel G1610T (35W) CPU and can be upgraded to a compatible Xeon CPU if you want.

But if you are not planing to run Windows on it, the N54L is enough for your requirement. N54L may not be the best hardware if you are planing to install Plex (for transcoding).

As far as I can see, the only difference is the RAM. I would pay $10 anytime for an extra 2Gb :)

      • Oh you're right, the more expensive one comes with more RAM. My bad, got the links around the wrong way haha.

Thanks for the info. Is the N54L easy enough to get running the Synology NAS software? I have a Synology DS414J, a i5 NUC that runs 24/7 (running as a plex server too), and basically just want a new microserver to replace my old ReadyNAS NV+ that died a few years ago and I haven't gotten around to taking the 8TB of HDDs out. Not really sure what the best option would be - run Synology on it, run a Linux OS of some sort (I have no Linux experience really), or run Windows.

        • I tried Synology on the intel CPU (G1610T) and it works fine. It should work on the N54L as well I am sure. For your requirement, getting a USB 3 HDD rack might be a better solution instead of having to run 2 separate machines (NUC and Microserver)

        • @dealspider: I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks for the tip. The only concern is that to my NAS that would like like 4 separate drives, so storing TV shows etc across them would be a bit tricky. Guess I'd have to pony up more money for a RAID version.

        • @MrFunSocks: I think you could move your Plex Server from the NUC and install it on the Microserver if you buy the G8. You can even upgrade the CPU to a more powerful Xeon later if you want.

  • Are these good for everyday computer use?

    • +1

I would say yes if you are using it for normal desktop tasks such as Browsing, listen to music, watch video, view picture…etc.

  • Seagate Archive 8TB $309 ($30 Cashback): I can't seem to find any info on the $30 cashback. Is this on top of the $309 ($279???) + postage

    • Sorry, my mistake. $30 cashback only applies to NAS drives. More details

      And + Delivery

  • 4tb RED Works out to be cheaper by $15 from ebay (futu) delivered with current 20% sale not to mention another 2.5% cashback rewards
