  Don't these appliances just do the same thing as a convection oven - i.e. blow hot air to cook the food? Only they can only cook much smaller serves than a full-size oven.

  Is there a real reason to purchase one of these?

      I agree - it can take a while to heat up oil in a fryer and then it's messy to clean. My point is that this device seems to be just a hot-air convection oven that's smaller than a regular oven. It has nothing to do with frying so why would it be compared to a fryer?

  ;) Just buy a "turbo broiler" or convection oven for less than <$50 or like this $15 one from Aldi although I can't vouch for the Aldi one.

  I bought one of these after months of holding off. Yeah it's basically a small oven/grill BUT it's extremely convenient, very fast to heat up and quick to clean. I use it 2-3 times a day. It's not really about "frying" you can cook pretty much anything in it.
