I'm planning to sell it, but don't want to open the phone package to sell it as brand new
How can I check if it's unlocked or locked to Telstra?

I've ported my number from Vodafail though..so there shouldnt be a sim card in there

The only way to be sure is to put a SIM from a different carrier in and see if it works.
Can you imagine a complimentary s5 not involving a prohibitive unlock cost?: better declare it such, carrier locked in you ad and keep enjoying unl/2gbytes.

Try and put a different SIM in , you will need to open the box to get your SIM out before you sell it. Mine is locked which is fine as I am planning on adding more phones to the telstra family.
