Ta OP. Please repost the second games on the 16th, I almost forgot the later August games. There's a good chap.

This might sound a little sad, but just set a recurring monthly appointment on your phone to check them on the evening of the 1st and 16th of every month - it's what I've done after missing one, and I haven't missed one since!

Missing a freebie is far sadder. I may need a new app, the windows phone calendar didn't seem up to the task.

        • You can do it with the Windows Phone calendar (that's what I'm using) - calendar, new, more details, chance occurs from once to "day one of every month" (after you've set the date of the appointment as the first. Same goes for the 16th.

        • @Baker: That's done, cheers. This post will help all those other champs living the full MS dream - windows phone, xbox live, bill gates shirt..

        • @bargainhunter: Lol. Nice to know i am not the only one on ozbargain. But i dont use calendar reminders. I just never forget about bargains. Especially freebies(even though it cost me around 40 aud per year,it feels like freebie).

        Exactly what I do :)

Tomb Raider is a terrific title for the Xbox One. Wouldn't mind giving Crysis a go as well on the 360.

      • not sad at all, i do the exact same things. its no different than having recurring calendar entries in outlook at work. there is simply too many things for us to remember manually nowdays, hence so many calendar\notepad apps.

I was going to do that for the previous months but I figured it would get reported for being a dupe/spamming.

Don't forget that as of September any XBOX 360 game on Games for Gold will be backwards compatible with Xbox One.

So to all the Xbox One owners out there, you are actually getting 4 free games every month from September onwards.

The easiest way to get these games is to log onto the Xbox Store within your web browser and do the 'free purchase' through there. You will see it automatically download onto your Xbox One once Backwards Compatibility is available (or if you are an Xbox Insider)".

"Again both games can be claimed by Xbox One owners for free as well, and they will be playable when the backwards compatibility feature goes live for all of those console owners later this fall."

      Incorrect. This starts in November.

      • Yep no chance that Battlestations Pacific will ever get an update

        • +1

It wouldn't need an update, just the developers permission.

    • Should I be downloading the free 360 games now?

Also I just realised I didn't claim this free game, How to Survive: Storm Warning.

      • Should I be downloading the free 360 games now?

Yes, although you might run into problems if you've never had an Xbox 360 console associated with your gamertag.

Also I just realised I didn't claim this free game, How to Survive: Storm Warning(store.xbox.com).

        It's still free… until the 16th September.

      • Just purchase them, even without downloading them. You can always download them later. I used to do this with PS4 games when I had ps+ despite having no intention to purchase a ps4 haha.

  • Hey somewhat related, how does the definitive edition of Tomb Raider compare to the original release on PC? I've had it sitting on my Steam account for ages and now I'm not sure which version to play.

    • Isn't it just the same base game with extra multiplayer maps?

      • +1

They updated character models, lighting, texturing, etc. The "definitive edition" looks a lot better than the PC version on Ultra settings because the devs went back and did additional work on it (mostly visual) which was never added to the PC version. You also get all of the content released on the disc as well.

  • awesome Tomb Raider, yay.

Games with Gold is pretty bloody excellent these days. Thanks, OP!

  • +2

Haha someone on the last Tomb Raider deal called it! I should have listened.

    • True, but people having been "calling it" for months, it was bound to happen sooner or later :P

  • +1

Dont forget, you can also "buy" xbonxone games for gold, even if you dont have an xboxone, and they will be on your account if you ever get an xboxone.

  • Games with Gold is great but I wish they'd be nice enough to let you download all the games they've released in the Games with Gold program, providing you had a Xbox Live Gold account at the time.

  • Can anyone else not find The Deer God on the XBL store? It's not even coming up as a suggested source…or perhaps I'm too early?

    • Yes mate you're too early. They're live tomorrow when it's updated in the US.

      • Never mind, it looks shit anyway, I won't waste my time with it.

  • +1

If you use the Xbox.com menu links to Games With Gold, you get a link to Battlestations: Midway instead of Pacific, which means it won't be free.
