          thanks.

          How would you compare this to GoPros?

        • +2

          @theone4u: I have never used a go pro but as Plastic Spaceman says they are pretty good. The colour and image stabilisation is excellent. I use mine for surfing, mountain biking and snowboarding. The anti condensation strip is a must (about $10 on ebay).

          @theone4u:

          Hi. If you look below you'll see a little review of the one I have. For my trouble, I've been given a negative vote but what the hey. We have a sharing community here. ;-)

          Personally I think it's better than the GoPro I've used - a few more features and better image quality. On the other hand there are more mounts and other things available for the GoPro kit, plus there are a number of different versions of the GoPro out there so I expect that some of the newer ones may be better.

        • @PlasticSpaceman: that is odd why you would get neg lol. I plan to attach it on my motorbike, so a good stabilisation is needed i guess for the fast movement. Audio wise is not important as it will be attached on the bike anyway.

          i guess this is a good deal, is it hard to find accessories for these cam?

          @theone4u:

          I suspect even the Sony might struggle with a motorbike, but it coped with my awful skiing (making it look like it was on a dolly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera_dolly) so maybe it might be ok. ;-)

          It uses a standard tripod mount, so all good. You can get the Sony branded gear from their online shop (the cam even came with a $15 voucher as I recall), but it's not cheap and frankly as long as you find something with a tripod mount it should be fine. Bound to be stuff on eBay. Plus there's always duct tape.

        • @theone4u:

          We've got a GoPro 3 Black and one of these Sony cams. The Sony is just as good if not better.

          Edit: mainly used for watersports/jet ski.

        • @Mikinoz:

          +1 on the anti-condensation strips. At the snow one day the inside of the case misted up. Next time I'll try to remember to take some of those.

        • @Mikinoz: Thanks Mikinoz for reminding me about anti-condensation strip. I almost forgot to bring mine with my GoPro to the snow tonight :P

        • @theone4u:

          I plan to attach it on my motorbike, so a good stabilisation is needed

          The AS20's SteadyShot would be great for road riding mounted to a helmet, and decent enough when mounted to the bars. It'll still be better than nothing when off-road, but doesn't handle the higher frequency vibrations as well as Sony's more expensive Action Cam models.

          In this YouTube vid, eveRide has an AS100V on his helmet and AS15 on his bars and turns on steadyShot half-way through. (YouTube's codec compression mushes the image quality.)

    • If you don't mind a refurb, still with 12 month warranty, it was $118 in the eBay deal too.. Grays online from memory. That includes delivery.

      Edit: Looks like they sold out.

    Thanks. Good little camera - personally I don't need it as I got one for 'free' via redemption when I bought an HX60V. Took the camera to the snow two weeks ago, and I was impressed with the image quality of the video and how well the stabilisation worked. The audio was a little muffled, but that's only to be expected I guess when it's in the protective case. Battery easily lasted for 4 days with occasional use, and the wifi control using my 'phone was a great big party trick. If you're interested in an action cam like a GoPro etc, this is definitely worth considering.

  • Rep, what's the hdras200v going for?

  • Does it come with the protective case?

    • It comes with a kit that includes waterproof housing which is a protective case

  • For a little extra your better off buying the HDR AS30V. I have used mine for over 12 months and never had an issue with it. Been scuba diving, mountain biking and even skiing and all images come out perfect. A family member had the 20 and was replaced under warranty with the 30 after the 20 failed twice

    • I am quite confused with Sony model naming. I thought AS20V is newer than AS30V?

    • I did not think there was much difference between the two other than GPS and nfc.
