  • Store rep, when is confirmation of order given? I purchased yesterday and funds from paypal has withdrawn but have not received order email and it's no order is in my account….

    • Hello, have you received your order confirmation yet? If not i would recommend you to email [email protected]. They are better equipped to solve this if it is still an issue.

    • My first order confirmation went into the spam folder of Gmail, second one turned up normally then I realised the first one was not received.

  • Can you confirm with the supplier/manufacturer if the TD edition support FDD LTE.
Some have reported that the Chinese TD edition does support all the same FDD channels as the TD model.

Also can you get any other colours like yellow?
Are there any chases or screens protectors for this?

This page says the TD model supports FDD

An OB member has informed me that a Redmi Note 2 purchased from a HK ebay seller, although only having TDD-LTE & TD-SCDMA on the phone & packaging, supports FDD-LTE & WCDMA. AliExpress sellers advertising the TDD version with FDD support [videos & images supplied] also give options for different back case colours, e.g. http://bit.ly/1M30uzH & http://bit.ly/1M30xLN

Various Redmi Note 2 accessories available on AliExpress:

Original back covers USD 4.69 http://bit.ly/1M32zLU

Soft silicon cases USD 1.39 (sale) http://bit.ly/1M32yaI

Hard rubber cases USD 2.38 http://bit.ly/1M32Cr3

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors USD 3.74 http://bit.ly/1M32Jmn (for original Redmi Note, but should be the same size)

      • The question is, is it safe to order this one?
        http://en.jd.com/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-2-4G-TD-…

with the $20 off coupon it is a hell of a deal.

        • I've been contemplating this for a few days :) I don't think I would take the chance if the seller doesn't confirm that the phone supports fdd/wcdma. However, there is a post on xda saying it's possible to flash a China Mobile rom (tdd) with a China Unicom rom (fdd): http://goo.gl/TJjhcw

        • @kusala: Well if that is doable, surely it would work. The chipsets would be the same…
This would bring the phone to under $200 and that is a done deal…

Any way to flash it with vanilla 5.1 or Cyanogen?

        • +1

          @Phreaker:

To be certain, it would be useful to source the Unicom rom plus flashing method before purchasing.

There may be some custom roms later on. I haven't owned a xiaomi phone, but I have flashed another phone with a ported miui rom. I thought it was okay. For me, probably root plus alternate launcher would be sufficient.

Also you have a code for $20 off orders over $100 and $10 off orders over $50 can you do a code for orders over $200? say $40 off?
I want to get the Prime version and a tablet.

    • Sorry, cant do that. But if you were to use the coupon on two separate orders that would be okay.

      • @jdglobal I cannot send you a PM. Will be another discount code for october? i want to buy a phone but te seller told me, wait until october 3rd( no stock) Thank you.

  • I am looking at the prime too. Will it work with Telstra.

    Is the microsd supported?

  • should I get the FDD version or just the GSM version? I am on a Telstra reseller

    • For a telstra reseller, you will need wcdma band 850 & fdd-lte bands 1800 & 2600. A few posts above there are links showing that the cheaper gsm or tdd version can be adjusted to support wcdma & fdd-lte. I wrote to the JD seller on Monday asking if his USD 136.21 (discounted) tdd version supports wcdma & fdd-lte. There has been no reply and I don't expect there will be. Since then, his fdd version has dropped in price to USD 145.99 (discounted). At this low price & with certainty of correct bands, I think this the best choice.

  • +1

Made an order on the 9th and now the price is further reduced, a bit annoying to jump in too early and pay an extra AU$10.

  • +2

looks like a good phone for the money - order placed see you in a month or so

Since yesterday (12/09), the seller has another version of the Redmi Note 2 for sale - GSM unlocked for USD 139.99 (with discount) - "Unlocked GSM version is exactly the same as FDD version, only costs less." http://goo.gl/eHAcMc

  • so when does this ship out?

  • +6

This is a piecing together of previous comments I've made re 'unlocked gsm'.

Clarifying 'Unlocked GSM' on the Redmi Note 2

It is generally known there are three versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2:

    • China mobile version 799 CNY - 2gb ram/16 rom/2.0 ghz - understood to only support gsm, td-scdma & tdd-lte bands
    • Standard version 899 CNY - same hardware specs as China mobile version - supports gsm, wcdma & tdd/fdd-lte bands
    • Prime version 999 CNY - 2gb ram/32gb rom/2.2 ghz - same bands as the Standard version.

In China, tdd-lte is not the only spectrum utilized for 4g. The recently allocated fdd-lte spectrum is already being used by carriers such a China Unicom & China Telecom: http://bit.ly/1FGIROr It wouldn't make sense for Xiaomi to ask buyers in China to spend an extra 100 yuan on the Standard version to access fdd-lte. Thus, it is my understanding that the China mobile version has inbuilt provision for fdd-lte – see also: http://bit.ly/1FGIymS

A couple of weeks ago I noticed some AliExpress sellers listing a 'GSM Unlocked' Redmi Note 2 version at lower prices than the Standard 16gb version. Under the item descriptions, the sellers provide images & videos to demonstrate that the 'gsm unlocked' version also supports wcdma & fdd-lte. In this link there is a video showing a gms/td-scdma/tdd-lte only labelled phone connecting with the China Unicom fdd-lte network in China: http://bit.ly/1FGLksd In this link there is a video, even though it is Russian language, you can see a gsm/td-scdma/tdd-lte only labelled phone connecting to both 3g & 4g networks in Russia: http://bit.ly/1FGMnsa

An OzBargain member who purchased a Redmi Note 2 from a Hong Kong ebay seller has only gsm/td-scdma/tdd-lte labelled the phone packaging & battery slot [no wcdma or fdd-lte]. Yet the phone connects to Australian networks without problem. He has sent me screen shots of Band Modes as displayed in MTK Engineer Mode. There are gsm & tdd-lte bands plus wcdma bands 850, 900, 1900, 2000 and fdd-lte bands 1, 3, 7.

    gsm & wcdma bands: http://i58.tinypic.com/1ad00.jpg
    fdd-lte bands: http://i59.tinypic.com/ve0r43.jpg
    tdd-lte bands: http://i62.tinypic.com/264p2ki.jpg

Last Monday 7/9, I contacted the JD seller to inform about the 'unlocked gsm' lower priced Redmi Note 2 versions listed on AIiExpress. Since Saturday 12/9, the seller has also listed an 'Unlocked GSM version' for USD 139.99 [with JD999 code]: http://bit.ly/1KkKNSd In the item description it is stated "Unlocked GSM version is exactly the same as FDD version, only costs less." As detailed above, the 'unlocked gsm version' will support Australian 3g & 4g networks [no fdd-lte band 28, of course]

Thus, you can purchase the 'Unlocked GSM Version' for USD 139.99 or the exact same phone, the 'FDD Version Redmi Note 2' for USD 145.99

    • So in summary - getting the Unlocked GSM Version will work for all networks in Australia (Telstra/Vodafone/Optus + all resellers). No point getting the more expensive version. Let me know if I am mistaken here?

      • +1

That is fully my understanding - the bands to be 'unlocked' are wcdma 850,900,1900,2000 & fdd-lte 1800,2100,2600. I would personally purchase the lower priced version without concern. However, to doubly reassure others, I've sent a note to the seller asking for confirmation of these bands. Hopefully, I will receive a reply later today & will post it here.

      • Sorry, I haven't yet received a reply from the seller. Just to repeat what is written on the website 'Unlocked GSM version is exactly the same as FDD version, only costs less." - the FDD version bands are displayed in this image http://i57.tinypic.com/149w1gx.jpg & these are the bands needed for Australia https://www.accesscomms.com.au/reference/mobnet.htm

      • +4

        Just received seller`s reply

Question: Could you please confirm that the 'Unlocked GSM Version' has these bands: wcdma 850,900,1900,2000 & fdd-lte 1,3,7. Thank you!

Reply: It is the same as the fdd version, thank you!

        • I notice that since 12th October, the unlocked gsm version hasn't been listed on JD. Maybe, it will return at a later date….

      • I notice black & white 16GB RN2 are now listed for USD 136.99 discounted. I suspect these are modified gsm versions.

  • Has anyone had notification of dispatch? How long did it take between order and dispatch?

    • Mine apparently arrived in Sydney yesterday (I'm in Melbourne), hopefully I'll receive it in a couple of days. I ordered mine on 1/9 and it left China about a week later.

  • +1

Mine arrived on Friday last week.
Ordered on 31 August, and got an email saying dispatched 2 September.

Time to start looking for cases, custom ROMs, etc.

    • Havn't received mine yet but the easiest way is by downloading xiaomi.eu rom which has playstore and no bloat. Then using the update tool app on the phone to flash.

      • Mine has Play Store already and seems to have a bit of bloat.

Btw it wasn't sealed which some other people already mentioned may be the case, because they open it up to install Play Store onto it for you.

Haven't played with it much yet. Just charged it.

        Root here?

        • don't use it, it has spyware/adware probably. make sure you flash it with an official xiaomi rom before using it. the default one doesn't come with "magic camera" etc

        • @peter05: Oh? Is this not the official xiaomi ROM?
Pasted the wrong link just now. Should've been this one for "Root here?"
          Is this the official ROM?

        • +1

          @illumination:

if you see stuff asking you to clean your device sometimes and there are weird apps available then IMHO it's not a clean install. Try googling the programs you see that you suspect and "xiaomi" and you'll probably come up with results on whether or not it's an officially included program.

You can also watch youtube videos of XiaoMi presentations and you can compare their home screen to yours

I think it's best to go to the xiaomi.eu website to download the roms, but from reading in forums it can be slow and unreliable

        • @peter05:

Also, please see zan5hin`s xda post re latest multi-language developer roms: http://goo.gl/79CbHr

    • Hi, can you upload pictures of the box label and engineer screen captures of the bands? just to make all clear about the TDD=FDD version.
      Thank you in advance.

      • +1

I'll do it when I get a moment.
I don't know what you mean by "engineering screen captures of the bands" though

        • you can access to engineer mode, where you can see the real bands supported by the phone, and many other tweaks.
you can use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themonster…
or by typing this code in dialer ##3646633##
And go to telephone , band mode, choose sim 1 and take a screen capture, the back to sim 2 and take screen capture of the 3 pages. Sound like a lot but i will help alot of people!!! :D

          @trukos:

In my posts above I've documented how a gsm unlocked version has the same bands as a fdd version and the seller also has confirmed that these two versions are the same. Please note the seller also has a gsm version for USD 136.21 (discounted) which does not have wcdma/fdd bands unlocked.

        • @kusala:

Thanks for your answer. Ok, i´m clear about unlocked gsm = FDD version. But GSM only should be the same as unlocked version? because there is a 2015051( wcdma FDD + TD) and 2015052 (gsm TD only) so how is unlocked and it is safe to change roms? now i´m confused LoL. Anyways for just usd$4 i won´t complain. By the way i´m form south america and we use 850/1900 gsm/wcdma and FDD-LTE 2600 bands.
@illumination, it will be very helpfull to show pictures and screen captures of your model.
          Thanks.

PS: it is safe to buy from JD.com/bjones? it will take to long to arrive, because in aliexpress is only us$10 more and include basic cover+tempered glass+otg cable, free shipping by singapore post.

PS2: i just found another video showing TD only label, inside 215052 model and engineer mode shows 850/1900 wcdma 2600 FDD. WoooW!!!! XD

          @trukos:

My understanding is that there are 2 model numbers,52 is 16gb & 51 is 32gb.52 can be configured with either td bands only or td + wcdma/fdd bands. Apparently, one can adjust this oneself via rooting, but as you suggest, easier to buy the unlocked version for a few dollars more. Don't know about JD free shipping times to Sth America - varies to Australia - 2 weeks minimum. For more on this, pls see: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2444001

        • @kusala:

thanks. Just to let things more clear, gearbest sell the "international" wcdma fdd version, and they offer the 52 version just read the coments : http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_229216/ask.html?page=… So it´s safe to buy the 52 or TDD version.
As i understad 52 should be only TD, 51 TD+FDD and the 32gb version has a diffrent code 2015712.
          http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=8480&c=xiaomi_hongmi_n…
By way im getting tired of this many numbers, and i will trust the seller jejejeje

I just remember, in a spanish forum a seller sent the chinese versions instead of the FDD, when the people recived the phone everybody complain about it, The solution was give a 10 dollar refund, because all the phones works fine in spain. funny haaa?!

  • Oh man, moving from a dinosaur iPhone 4S I'm amazed with how fast and butter smooth it is. Sold my iPhone for $250 so I earn $50 profit from upgrading my phone, awesome!
I'm now rooted and have deleted "Magic Photo" and friends. Does anyone know how to install Xposed on this thing?

    • Where did you bought it?

  • +1

My phone arrived yesterday, brandnew sealed package, all good except google calendar does not sync. Gmail, contacts, keep and photo all sync well, but now the calendar. I found the sync apk version is different from contact sync apk, which might be the reason.

Anyone is on the same boat and knows the solution?

    • +2

I reflashed the latest stable ROM and installed gapps and it syncs well now.

  • Rep,

My sis received the phone and it didnt work with the Vodafone and Amaysim networks. The phone is listed as FDD LTE and should work with all the networks.

I think they sent the TD LTE version instead of the FDD LTE. I am not happy with this!!!

    • What bands are displayed on the box & battery compartment?

You can check which bands are working on the phone via Engineer mode - dial * # * # 3646633 # * # * - at the top is the Telephony tab - select BandMode & SIM 1. At least, these bands should be checked: gsm 900,1800,1900,850; umts [3g] 2000,1900,850,900; lte bands 1,3,7

Note: spaces in dial code above are to ensure asterisks display correctly [ozbargain code deletes asterisks when adjacent to other characters]

      • Thanks for the advised. I'll check it out once I get it from from the post office next week.

  • Has anyone bought the unlocked GSM version from JD or aliexpress? Numerous people have said the seller has said it's the same as the FDD, but I haven't seen any first hand reviews. Can anyone comment?

Weighing up whether to save a few bucks and buy the unlocked GSM or get the FDD version. Being on Boost I prefer to get 700 band frequency and seeing as people on XDA are trying to unlock the bands I'm not sure whether the unlocked GSM will allow for frequency hacking down the track.

  • Ordered mine yesterday, will keep everyone updated about delivery time frame. after reading reviews on delivery, i'm less excited lol.

  • ordered 11/09/2015 arrived today

  • Last looked at this couple of months ago.

Seems with our sagging AUD / 0.72 we get $200-$188 for FDD GSM unlocked (2015052) from aliexpress JD.com

(Android 5.x must be getting close to finito moving foward '16\6.0 hope??)

I don't suppose any of those groups handling modification/inspection have +86-china contact no.? I guess the concern is getting default undesirable yellow panel (vs. desired Tianma) that upset early first Chinese buyer.
