  • Gone in 60 seconds? Now says AU$4.38. :(

      • Yeah, sorry tightarse. I tried to buy more than one. Should have read it better. Deal is good! :)

        • +2

Not a problem. Had to limit to 1 per person for fairness. Enjoy your purchase :)

        • @tightarse: do you also make the conditions of these deals yourself? I thought you only chose the coupon codes.

  • Any good?

Thank You TA. But will we be able to get full charge in 134 hours? :D Since its USB powered.

    • +1

Well given a regular USB port should be good for 2.5W it shouldn't be that slow at all. Typical AA rechargeable is only about 3Wh anyway. So that's a 2-3 hour theoretical minimum.

Will probably very cheap and nasty like much of the Chinese junk in this price range.

      • plugs into 10W wall adapter

        • If the charger isn't regulated, that sounds like a nice way to cook your batteries :)

Edit: measured, it charges a (cheapo) NiMH @ ~100mA per cell, from a 5W (1A) supply. 180mA draw per cell, so about 50% efficient.

  • I wonder, is this a dual channel charger or a single channel one?

    • I have one that looks identical, from ebay a while back.

Total draw is ~180mA with one cell, ~330mA with two (from a 1A supply).

Multimeter says current per cell is 100mA (95mA with two cells, close enough). So about 50% efficient.

Voltage is ~1.7V with full cells, which is close enough.

Tested with cheapo cells (ebay NiMH, not entirely sure what's actually in them) because I don't want to ruin my Eneloops.

      Effectively dual-channel trickle-charge.

Edit: epic below is largely correct. One diode, one LED and two resistors (1/4W and 1/2W) per cell. I can't be bothered trying to read the resistor markings or figuring out the circuit right now, and it's not too important anyway.

Soldering is pretty dodgy - close to a short on one of the USB power pins. Don't use with any power supply you care about.

Also, it says 1.4V and 160mA output. Measured results say otherwise. Hmm…

can we stick this usb in our arse?

You try and report back ok?

Instructions unclear, am pregnant with eneloops. Help.

        • become dick smith's supplier of course

        • Help, have given birth to an Ainol laptop

Got one years ago from another seller. Rubbish

    • couldn't agree more

    • Yup…Got one as well.

end up in the bin, totally useless!!!!

    • +3

I got one from dx years ago and it was had more circuitry for the led than the charging :/

    • Yeah, I need to wiggle a bit to get it going. Idea is good but quality control is terrible.

    Code should be Bargearse

    • I was waiting for a deal on a boat with this code ;)

      Donuts!

Are you full Sarge? Chock a block!

      D-Gen were hilarious :)

  • Wish they would bring back Bargearse

Thanks so much TA! Love these deals! :)

  • Are you sure it's a NiMh charger? Have a look at the picture with gold-coloured batteries installed - the batteries say "Gassner alkaline battery".

Noise! Get your house on fire for just $1.34!!

    • True, doesn't look very safe.

    • Unlikely to do much damage running off +5V.

      • +1

Yes 99% of charger related fires are from small cheap AC-DC (USB) transformers, usually caused by having the 240v tracks too close to the DC stuff on cheap'n nasty PCB's.

This is only 5vDC input so unlikely to cause damage by itself.

  • you get what you pay for

  • looks bodgie as

  • Which Australian Standard does this device conform to?

  • DESCRIPTION:
Safe and efficient use of energy

Not true. You need to calculate charging time and if you forget to remove batteries they will be destroyed by heat and overcharging.

I have this thing. There is only a resistor and LED per "channel" LOL.

  • +1

if you dont have a charger in your house, this is a spare one. do not rely on it, always aim further because that is the real way to bargain in our life..(not ended up with buying 10 shitty products while you can have good one that last forever).

    http://www.9news.com.au/national/2015/08/21/09/39/fire-crews…

Apparently, it's after market chargers like this that started that fire.
Battery/cell technology is one area I spend a bit extra to ensure I get reasonable quality.

  • these chargers are crap, i got one from meritline a while back.

  • +5

IMHO, this isn't a good deal. Saving money by buying a crap charger that kills your expensive rechargeables is never going to be good in the long run…

  • For those that reckon this is crap - quick question

I'm heading off travelling and just need a small compact charger for quick top ups of batteries in hotel rooms

Is this going to be sufficient to do the job?

I have a quality MAHA charger at home - but too bulky to take travelling

  • Perfect use case for wireless mouse at work .. Can charge in laptop too :)

  • So, it's four weeks later and I still haven't had a confirmation that its been sent. Was this a legit deal, or has my $1.35 gone to the tightarse retirement fund, lol?

  • Hello,divergent.

I am Newfrog Official representative.Do you have Order No. or transaction ID so that We can check for you.Thanks.

    • Cool! The only documentation I received from the transaction was from Paypal, dated 31 Aug 2015 20:18:35 AEST. It quoted Transaction ID: 7XJ57893AR075590B, saying "You sent a payment of $1.35 AUD to lv jian gang ([email protected])" There was nothing listed under the description, but it did show Invoice ID: 20150831101830, which I assume is tied to the date and time. That's basically all I have. I can email you the Paypal email, but hopefully you can find the transaction from the date and time. Let me know. Cheers!
