  • Thanks OP. I have enough starter kits to last me for 2 years. But, is VF competing with Coles here ?

    • I'd say they are outdoing them, offering free delivery and guaranteed stock. Save time and no messing around. Ofcourse not everyone lives near a Coles store either so going instore may be impractical.

If it was me, I'll grab it from Coles earning me flubuy points plus the 4c/l petrol discount.

        • Make sure you check it … I read the Vodafone deal on here which has 3GB for $20 then I went into Coles and noted that the marketing materials at the checkout for the Vodafone deal have 2GB listed.

Didn't confirm which was correct though.

      • +2

The trick would be to buy as many as possible (within your budget, of course) from Coles, as they would attract flybuys points (plus bonus points depending on targeted offers) and fuel discount vouchers also for those that are interested.

Plus, if you're shopping at Coles and spending $10, throw in this starter pack and you'll get the $30 minimum for the fuel discount.

For those who cannot get to a Coles readily, or if their Coles is out of stock, then this is the next best opportunity to stock up.

And for those still unsure, Vodafone starter kits do not expire.

  • My Optus contract finishes next month (9th October), when should I activate this Sim Card? I want to keep my current number.

    • +1

After your contract has finished entirely.

When you activate the VF SIM, you'll have to nominate the number that you wish to port over and the account holder's details. The port would take less than one business day. Some ports also happen on a Saturday.

If you do this before your contract lapses, you may be up for penalties at Optus' end. Best to finish all obligations with Optus before porting over to VF.

      • How many vodafone starter kits can I have under the same name? I want to keep porting over to a new Vodafone sim card after the 28 days.

        • +2

You can buy as many starter packs as you like under one name, and as many as VF will be prepared to sell to a single person.

        • +2

can't keep porting same number onto new VF sims month on month, have to go somewhere else in between, even if just for a few hours.

        • @battler:

Exactly, porting out of Vodafone then porting in again - that's the trick.

Now you might be thinking, I have to buy non-Vodafone SIM cards every month. True, but you'll still be ahead by spending $2 on a new SIM.

Or, head over to Lycamobile to get a bunch of free SIM cards.

          Job done.

  • Does anyone know if the $5 global roaming facility work on this deal? Heading overseas and wanted to access internet.

    • +1

Unfortunately, international roaming is extremely expensive with Vodafone prepaid.

$5 roaming is not available in conjunction with Vodafone prepaid.

Edit: If you were after affordable international roaming services, try Vodafone postpaid. You could sign up to a SIM only month-to-month plan for the period which you were spending overseas. Keep in mind though, that the $5 roaming feature is only applicable for use in certain countries - about 50 countries all up.

Another alternative would be Optus prepaid. They seem to have international roaming rates far more affordable than Vodafone prepaid.

      • Bit off topic but I often use a DID. And forward it to a local number. I don't get smses but calls seem to work fine.

        • What is a DID, Kaboda?

        • @KaptnKaos: Direct Inward Dialing.

It's like a physical number that you can call foward a international prepaid number.

I forward my mobile phone to a 07 Queensland number that I set up overseas to forward to a Thai number for example.

I use Pennytel but I probably wouldn't recommend them.

    • From memory it cost $55 per MB on prepaid service if you are trying to access internet when you are in overseas.

I would suggest you to jump on the month to month plan before you go overseas, and pay $5 roaming to access internet. Then you can change to prepaid after you are back from overseas.

FYI, paying $5 roaming will last for 24 hours from the moment you roam.

  • If we buy the starter pack from Vodafone online or Coles, do we need to use the allocated new number or can we use it for recharge purpose which retains the existing Vodafone number?

    • I think you can port your existing number to the new sim card.

  • is this only for the first month?

  • oh great news for me then, thanks heaps
