Nexus 6 32GB @ Google Play Store $669

486

Looks like a $200 price drop to usher in the new Nexus 5. Not a bad deal considering the plummeting AUD, and a device direct from Google themselves!

Edit: New Nexus device rumoured to be released some in +/- a month (thanks elitistphoenix)

New nexus 5 5.7 inch in just over 1 month

    • Yep I already mentioned that in the description

    • The new Nexus 5 is rumoured to be a 5.2" fhd device made by LG, and the new Nexus 6 is expected to be a 5.7" qhd device by Huawei.

    • Bit confused. Is nexus 5 older model? Provided the deal is about nexus 6? Is nexus 6 any better then lg G4

    • +1

Rumours/leaks suggest the 2015 nexus line will feature a 5 which will be made by LG and be 5.2inch and the new 6 will be a 5.7 huawei.
To make it clear to people not up to speed, there is a nexus 5 from 2013, the nexus 6 was released end of 2014 - this year there will be a new version of both.

Leaks from the last few days suggest they might call them the nexus 5X/6X instead of like nexus 5/6 (2015) etc. I guess it's important when you have models using the same numbers within such a close timeline.

    • But it would be an LG not moto.
Also no way you can have it in one month. It too me 4 months to get my handa on nexus 6 after they startedd lling it.

$549 at MobileCiti. That's a $120 discount from not buying it direct from Microsoft with the same warranty and product.

  • -2

I don't like it how they went from Nexus 6 then back to Nexus 5 :-(
Why not call it Nexus 7?

    • +3

I think it's because they used to have the Nexus 7 (tablet). Might cause a lot of confusion

      • Already confusing

        • +1

Not at all. Apple have released countless MacBook Air models all called "MacBook Airs". When did it become a requirement tablets and phones have a new number every year? Nexus 5 (2015) and Nexus 6 (2015) are perfectly clear.

Maybe Nexus buyers are intelligent enough to look at specs. Whereas Apple and Samsung customers need simple numbers to know it's newer, "durrrpp, 6 is bigger than 5 so must be better. Oh Plus model means its larger, like plus sized clothing. Durrrpp"

        • @PainToad: Sorry bro, but you can't decide that no-one else is confused. You experience with one brand's scheme doesn't remove the common-sense numerical order most would expect standard in life.

    • +4

It's essentially related to the screen size.

    • +8

It's screen size. What don't people understand about this!

    • +1

Yeah its not like any other popular manufacturer would ever do anything to confuse the market…5, 5s, 5c…

    • They're named after their size, not the order of which they have come out, there was a nexus 10 like 3/4 years ago.

  • You must have some fans…$120 dearer than TA's post and still gets 10 pos votes.

    • +2

I just wanted to see it on front page :)

TA deal is only for the white model which no one wants too.

      • -1

        Samsung fans are the worst.

        • Most Samsung fans hammered them because of the drop in SD Card and removable battery :)

        • -1

          @TRENT86:
Not all the hipsters and soccer moms, ie. 90% of Samsung buyers.

        • +2

          @PainToad: Lol

        • @TRENT86: Well Nexus users certainly got sweet revenge when Samsung did the same. Sales figures show it was a poor decision and the company's results have suffered.

        • +5

Samsung fans are the worst? Why?

          I disagree with you.

Samsung fans have many things to be boastful about - their camera photos are constantly rated as the best in blind tests, bar none. They make the most powerful phones, and they used to be the only ones who had removable batteries and SD card expansion slots.

Sure, there are many obnoxious Samsung fans… but I honestly think that many of these 'fans' are paid Chinese trolls. (Yep, I'm serious - there are many employed in China, to be pro-Communist party ('50 cent bragade, Example2, Example3, google for more; it's normal in China, to be a professional troll. I wouldn't be surprised if Chinese companies employed students, to be trolls, or fake, obnoxious fans with broken English, to improve their own image.)

In my opinion, Sony fans are the worst. Yes, beautiful phone indeed (as much as the new Samsungs)… but that's it, yet they are DIE HARD. Yes, highest mega pixel cameras usually, but one of the worst performers based on blind tests; nowhere near the votes of Samsungs, iPhones or LGs. Screen size is also not much bigger, if at all, than the competition… yet, their phones are always the heaviest and the bulkiest. Software wise, full of Sony's bloat; at least Samsung's cleaned up in this area.

HTC fans… well, they used to be there, with the "it's 4 ULTRA pixels… but yeah 4mp whatever, we've got 'Boom sound'!". Yep, all marketing terms, but nothing much to show. Don't see them much around these days, they seem to have died off.

iPhone fans. I don't really care about these Apple-kissing fans, because in my opinion, they don't really care about smartphones; they've made the easy choice, without being very critical about their selection. They went for the other default choice (besides the Samsungs). Good camera, good (though closed) software, but pricey. But they've afforded them, whatever…

Nexus fans… I am sort of a NEXUS FAN. Or more specifically, I am a LG Nexus 4 fan, but not a Motorola Nexus 6 fan. The Nexus 4 is good quality, and it was a bargain! Nexus 6 is pricey! Nexus 6 is also very big, bigger than the Galaxy Note series, while offering nothing more than the (expected) vanilla Android experience. For the price you pay for the Nexus 6, you don't get much compared to the Note. TO put things in perspective, you get less software features on the $700 Nexus 6, than the $250 Moto G.

Edit: At the end of the day, (profanity) fans; get the phone that YOU want. The only winners are the companies, no need to 'fight' for the companies lol. (ALso, no need to mix companies with nationalism.. I"m looking at those 50 cent brigades!)

@ShamelessBargains: I'm one of Samsung's biggest fans and am loving the sound of IOT products, But h8 removed sd card and battery

@inose: I'd like to know what you think about Nokia Lumia and Windows Phone fans. I like your opinions.

        • @wolfenator87:
I want to know his opinion about pickles.

        • @inose: Google for the price and product right on the mark with the Nexus 5 two years ago. Nexus 4 had a crap camera and screen, and the Nexus 6 was too big and pricey. They got the balance of features, design, materials and price right with the Nexus 5. I only wish they had released a 64GB variant of it as well.

        • +1

@TRENT86: yeah hope they learn their lesson and return to expandable storage and removable batteries next year. Most people have a case on their phones anyway deleting the point of the "innovative design".

        • +3

          @wolfenator87:

Cheers mate! I can't really say much about WIndows Phone and Nokia Lumia fans, because I don't know much / haven't read much from them…

However, I am a (reluctant) NOkia Lumia 625 user (work phone)! Based on this, and what I already know, I will say this:

          • Nokia Lumias are usually is SOLID. Though nothing near what you'd call 'beautiful', it is like a solid pebble stone… smooth, heavy, bulky, no sharp corners.

          • The WIndows Phone platform has its ups and downs. Downs: The Interface sucks IMO; grid isn't very customisable, so you can't fit everything you want on one screen; animations are nice, but slow… Settings isn't organised (not alphabetical); expect to do much swiping! Ups: Does the basics very well!

          • Their fans have a hard time accepting the fact that Samsungs have the best cameras (based on blind tests), because Nokia Lumias are usually always left out in any massive blind test (by PhoneArena). This is understandable! The top of the range Lumias (e.g. 920) have historically been the best performers in camera shootouts… but I guess the Lumias (and Windows Phones in general) have become… well, obsolete? Not enough love to be compared.

… but I would personally recommend a Nokia (Windows) Lumia phone to anyone looking for a simple smartphone, who doesn't care about customisation or much configuration. Parents? Grandparents? etc.

@ShamelessBargains: I wonder though if the future of phone storage will mostly be in clouds anyway? As for the Battery well if you going to take away the ability revmove the baattery at least give us a 4000mAh battery

        • @ShamelessBargains:

yeah hope they learn their lesson and return to expandable storage and removable batteries next year.

          What do you mean?

        • +1

@TRENT86: that's true. It's hard for phone companies though as battery technology has not improved vastly over the last few years and consumers want thinner devices. Personally I would rather a slightly thicker phone for more battery life. The onset of cloud storage would be great if Australia's Internet was any good. I'm still waiting for the NBN at my place and even then, we are so far behind other countries. Sorry for the rant haha

        • @ozhunter: Samsung have been having pretty mediocre sales for the s6/s6 edge range and this can partially be attributed to their new emphasis on charging excessive amounts for onboard storage and having a built in battery. They will definitely turn it around next year though :)

        • @ShamelessBargains: Samsung is the new Apple, in that regard. Provide less, charge more.

        • @ShamelessBargains: Is our internet slow? Whats a good average speed for other countries?

        • -1

@TRENT86: its slow in contrast to the rest of the world. Mainly due to the LNP Government only connecting to nodes rather than direct to houses for the NBN. We are ranked 44th in the world for internet speeds which is horrible! Not really sure about a good average speed but it's a lot more advanced in Japan, US etc

        • @ShamelessBargains: I just wonder how much faster things could load, my speed is quite good, sometimes I have problems but I think that's more to do with my old comp, I think im on 56mbps

        • @inose: you sir deserve medal … Thank you

  • -2

Wait for the new Microsoft flagship Lumia running Windows 10. Looks promising and it won't cost you an arm and a big toe.

    • Indeed they look promising. I'm still on WP8.0 so going to 10 will be a massive jump.

  • Nexus 6 got an equivalent price drop over 2 months ago in US/Europe/Asia. Typically we Aussies are always last to benefit.

  • +3

The 64GB is only $699, thats a much better deal…

  • -1

Only AUD$511 delivered via Amazon. See this deal.

  • +1

    Cheaper else where as mentioned.

  • -4

still happy with my Nexus 5.HAHA

    • +4

      Cool. What's funny?

  • +4

    64GB Model is only $30 more $699

  • no GPS??

    • +5

      Not sure if serious.

  • +6

They should borrow the naming convention from Apple and call the new Nexus 5 the Nexus 5s.

Or maybe HTC's formula — Nexus 5 One?

Or maybe Samsung's — Nexus 5 Core Prime 4G LTE?

  • -7

6 just too big for my hand..can't wait for the new nexus 5 though..

    • +1

I hope it can replace my Nexus 4.

    • Have you seen the camera bump on the new one? Yuck. After having owned a Samsung Galaxy S1 that had a similar bump at the bottom back side, I'm not going down that path again. It's shape will protrude from your pocket.

    • 6 just too big for my hand..

Did you try using both hands

  • +3

as stated earlier, $549 at MobileCiti. That's a $120 discount from not buying it direct from Google with the same warranty and product.

    • I wish Google had more pressure to competitively price products from their online store.

  • Not really a bargain
