      • Oh okay all good! Great post as always :)

Amazing price but do any of these not have a 20+ hour layover in Manila?

  • +3

That's a great deal but do prepare for your Philippine Airlines flights. I flew with them in July this year (through this Ozbargain deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/169689). No in-flight entertainment and a very poor terminal at Manila Pinoy airport, that has no credit card terminals and only accepts USD or Philippine Pesos.

That's a small discomfort for such a great deal, and the service & food onboard was fine, just have your Kindle well loaded.

  • How much are tickets usually to Santiago Chilli?

Also, what does Nov 20155 (~$20 more expenive) mean? I didn't see any tickets for November 2015.

    • On Qantas flights are usually high $1700 and up.

After posting this deal I checked out the Qantas website to see if they had info on the travel dates. They listed $1399 for 05 Feb 2016 to 21 Mar 2016, and then $1415 for 08 Nov 2015 to 08 Nov 2015. So I thought there probably are cheap airfares in Nov as well (though $20 more than in Feb/Mar).

      I changed 8/Nov to 8/Nov to just Nov after Clarky's comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210277#comment-3031243

      • Doesn't work. Its close to $2000 for 08 Nov to 08 Dec (obviously you wont be coming back on same day :))
Might as well not include Nov period unless you want one way ticket.

    • +2

Santiago Chilli haha!! I like that! Hope it's not too spicy.

  • No SYD > LON in Apr-Jun time?

Tempted to book the MEL > LON & then wait for a Jetstar/Tiger special, hmmm

    Unbelievable price.

    Scrub that…

    I've just found SYD > LON - $935. 13/06 - 30/06. Amazing.

Had a painful experience with Qantas, all my own doing. Booked a sale fare 2 weeks ago so saved $300-$500, sale fare being $500. Due to changed circumstances I ended up paying $1,000 in change fees ($200 a pop x2, and $80 telephone service x2) and fare differences.

So I saved -$1K. Cancelling the trip wasn't an option as I would have not got any money back anyway since cancellation fees are $400 per booking and the trip was mandatory. I also found Qantas call centre operators quite rude, abrupt and condescending (a black-n-white contrast to Telstra's service which I posted about in a different post).

    Sigh Lol

    • +2

Why lol? that's not funny at all

      • +5

It's a learn and live moment. Fees weren't hidden, I accepted them at purchase, so I can't blame Qantas for charging them. And naturally sale fares have the toughest restrictions and associated fees. So all I can do, and have, is laugh at the situation cos it's how I can create a positive out of it. To laugh and know I can make that lost $1K elsewhere or already have in past savings, bonuses, etc. It's my attitude to most things which means I don't worry, regret, grudge, stress… Life usually gives more than it takes so the net experience is always positive.

    • Unlucky mate, unfortunate RE: changed circumstances. If paid with credit card (amex) travel insurance may cover some circumstances.

      • Yep I definitely looked at that as I paid with Amex but there's $250 excess each claim so didn't help :)

    • travel insurance??..

    Nov 20155 (~$20 more expenive)

Dam, was hoping they would be cheaper by then.. Any idea on 20156?

    • Nice one :) Fixed.

      • +1

        So nothing on 20156 then or…? ;)

  • +2

I'm off to Chile in 2016. Thanks Guys!!!

    • Congratulations, these are damn cheap fares - wish I was free!

      • It will therefore be expensive, because you are cheap, but not free.

  • I found a flight MEL to London, but it had a 20 hour layover in Manila. Would I be able to leave the airport and get a hotel/explore manila?

And how does Phillipines Airlines rank in terms of airlines? Anyone ever flown long haul with them before? I'm quite tall and worried that in general….Filipinos are not. Hoping I can fit in the seats!

    • You might want to go to Mall of Asia since it isn't too far from the airport. In general, Manila is overcrowded and dirty. And there isn't much to do aside from shopping.

  • When I try looking up MEL to LON flights it shows the cheapest return price to be ~$1700, what am I doing wrong?

    • Are you clicking the link in the OP and then choosing from the list of travel dates shown? There are about 20 to choose from.

If not, can you describe what you are doing?

      • Just realized that there was like a graph with specific dates, I was using the search tool at the top haha, thanks for that mate :)

      • Also, with the melbourne and london flights, when is the latest we can book before the price goes backup? thanks

        • Hi goddo2305,

I checked on the on the Philippines Airlines website but couldn't find anything about this sale, so I don't know how long it will last.

Regarding the graph - are you on mobile or desktop?

        • @IWantThatFlight:

Alright thanks for looking. I've been looking on desktop.

          cheers mate

  • Is Phillipines Airlines reputable? good? safe? high quality?

    • apparently layover at Manilla Airport is annoying, but considering the price

      • Can you find any with a shorter layover?

      • Can you leave the airport if there's an extended layover?

        • well its 21 hours so I would assume you can provided u can get a tourist visa on the spot at passport control.

        • @Gavman:

I dont think australians need a visa for the phillipines.

  • Just found a cheap flight to London from Brisbane ($1137) so have updated the OP with it.

  • +3

Okay Ive booked SYD <-> London all within NSW school holidays 2/7/2016 to 15/7/2016 for $999.

  • Any chances of Jan/Feb flights popping up again SYD->LON? Made the mistake of not purchasing when they first appeared!
