Logitech G29 or G920 for $399.95 with Free Delivery from LogitechShop

90

Hi all,

Been waiting for this to come up for a price under $400 so I can use it with my PS4,
out with the old G27, in with the G29 for $399 delivered.

I actually ended up buying it from DickSmith, they pricematched it after I asked nicely… I had a $50 gift card to use, otherwise I would have bought from LTS.

  • shifter cost how much?

        • Logitech lost the plot. I wanted the G25 back in the day. I'm sure the newer wheels are more solid and accurate but they ditched the option to use the shifter in sequential mode with the G27. Now they've made the shifter an addon and made the wheel more expensive. That means it's not as attractive to a casual gamer. They've gone from a hardcore product with some mass appeal to a product only true die hard fans will touch but against competition that makes better wheels for the price. I know that if I wanted a wheel without the shifter I'd just buy something cheaper.

        • @syousef:

          what is sequential mode?

          yeah, greed corporate aholes just forcing us to give them another $500..for minimal new features

        • @tyler.durden:

          G25 had a dial that you turned. Normal H-pattern stick shift or bump it up to go up a gear, bump it down to go down a gear (sequential mode)

        • @syousef: Oh dang, that would have been nice. I was happy with my G27 not knowing about that feature, hah.

        • @Alzori:

          There is a hardware hack involving rubber bands that'll give you sequential shift but I wouldn't recommend it.

      Too much

      WTF .. it doesn't come with the shifter?
      Logitech should be focusing on compatibility for their old wheels instead of how to scam people out of more money. Thankfully there are 3rd parties who are doing this but it is far from perfect from what I hear. Just seems like such a rip-off..

      • I heard that logitech have tried but it was a limitation on the consoles end.

          "Best" comment on Reddit thread here leads to this extensive Neogaf post that suggests it's actually related to licensing issues with the 3rd-party software that, er… 'drives' these wheels. They're not licensed to be used for PS4.

          If all that's true, it would be expensive to sort out the legalities and there's not a lot of incentive for Sony or Logitech (other than goodwill I guess). Seems it's not as simple as flipping a couple of configuration switches, anyway.

          It's certainly frustrating - I've got a perfectly good G27 and tbh this bollocks just puts me off buying any racing games for new consoles, I'll probably stick with PC. No way I'm buying another $400 wheel when the G27 is fine and I've even got a battered old Driving Force GT that still works!

        • @SuperMatty:

          I read somewhere that you can get an adapter to fool it into working.

        • @sabaramo: If you're talking about the M4 Converter yeah I heard about that. Haven't had a lot of time to investigate but it seems like it's not that great. Input lag, large deadzone and limited force feedback. example Video here

          Pointless info: just realised my really old wheel is actually a non-GT Driving Force bought well over 10 years ago for Gran Turismo 3 on PS2! FFB on that one is stuffed tho - it did some hard miles :)

          @SuperMatty:

          It would be in logitech's interest not to pay for the licensing for g27.

          This would force g27 owners to pay almost $500 for another new g29 (with minimal new features).

          It's all about greed.

          That's why I am sticking with pc racing…

        • @tyler.durden: It's easy to interpret as greed but I think it's possible that it really is a legal nightmare that could turn out far more expensive than it's worth, for which the incentives to rectify it are very low. As frustrating as it is for me, I can see why nobody wants to pay to sort it out.

          Ideally if it was a licensing issue, Immersion Company (who apparently hold the rights to the software) could license each individual end-user for a nominal fee. I'd pay, say, $10 to be licensed to use MY G27 on PS4. I don't think that's the way they do business though and the software and OSes involved aren't really set up to support such things.

          It's certainly a positive side effect for Logitech that they can sell the same stuff all over again for the PS4, though. Like you, I'll probably stick with PC for more 'serious' racing stuff.

          @SuperMatty:

          I am sure if they wanted to give it support they would have been able to work something out.

          At the end of the day it is all about money.

          There's nothing to gain for logitech to give support for g27 and they would lose money to pay for licensing.

          By not giving support, it's a win for them…

          ====

          yeap I don't trust logitech after this issue.

          If the new wheel had like new features and new buttons or something that stops g27 from working on ps4
          then that would be understandable.

          But from what I read the features are really minimal
          and the g27 is still a perfectly working wheel with all buttons and shifter that is needed to used on ps4.

          So to give logitech another $500 just to get ps4 support is riddiculous.

          Also they are even more greedy by not bundling it with a shifter.

          Why would we trust them again?

          Then next ps5 need buy another wheel etc..

          No thanks.

        • @SuperMatty: I am with you mate. Also have a G27. Just wishing Forza was on PC …

  • Just in time for Forza 6. Must try and contain the impulse to purchase this…

    • It's a great wheel, I have the G29 and am loving it. Hate that Logitech didn't support last gen of wheels though.

    • But the wheel won't work on XBOne… Oops. Was thinking of the G29. 920 does..

  • Can I have your old G27? :D
