Think boost has more data than posted

If you are with telstra and want to keep your number (transfer), you must call them to get a blank sim - these packs will not work.

    • This, or just swap with a different carrier between packs, plenty of cheap Vodafone/Optus deals about.

    • This is incorrect. You just need to notify Boost that you'd like to use a starter kit instead of a blank sim and they'll happily do a number transfer for you. Plus, while the number transfer is going on you can continue to use your old Telstra sim until it stops, at which point you simply swap in your new sim.

In fact, this is how you register a new Telstra sim on the Boost network so that you get access to the Telstra 4G network at Boost prices instead of only 3G if you use a Boost sim.

      • So what I am getting at is, grab one of these starter pack, call up Boost request for a transfer from Telstra account over to Boost, and continue using Telstra account until it gets disconnects, then pop in the new Boost starter pack, and enjoy (4G coverage too?!)

        • Sorry, not quite.

          3G coverage:
If you buy a Boost starter kit you can call up Boost or just use their online chat service to transfer your number from your Telstra account, continue using you Telstra account until it disconnects, pop in the new Boost starter pack sim and enjoy 3G coverage.

          4G coverage:
Go buy a Telstra sim instead (I bought mine from Woolworths for $2), call up Boost or use their online chat service to transfer your number from your Telstra account, continue using you Telstra account until it disconnects, pop in the new Telstra starter pack sim and enjoy 4G coverage. Boost will repeatedly ask you whether you purchased a Telstra sim by mistake, just play dumb, they will setup the Telstra sim on the Boost network and you get 4G coverage. Obviously, you don't get the benefit of this OZ Bargain Boost Credit for half price but I think 4G coverage is a better bargain. Once your Telstra sim has been setup then you'll need to purchase a Boost prepaid recharge, $20 or $40 like normal. The $2 sim doesn't come with any included credit.

        • @TristanJ: but I heard that if you do that, you will get kicked off boost network? Anyway, I'll stick with my 3G…

        • @cloudie9: I think it might be a Boost rumour that they'll kick you off. I know quite a few people using a Telstra sim on the Boost network and not a single one of them has been kicked off.

[@cloudie9](/comment/3 it043856/redir): No need for Telstra SIM to get 4G on Boost network now "On September 29th 2015, Boost Mobile will be on 4G!" http://bst.st/4g

        • @TristanJ:

Excellent, I didn't know this. I had been using 4G on Boost for ages now via the blank Telstra SIM trick, no need to worry any more if I ever need a replacement SIM or they are about to cut me off :P

          @TristanJ:
Just realized that when I was trying to sort out JB mess, but that's a good news! However, 4G speed may not be full 4GX, capped at 50Mbps -

Boost offers 3G and 4G services, with typical download speeds of 2-50Mbps for 4G devices in 4G areas (not full 4GX data speeds) and 3G speeds in other coverage areas. Speeds vary for reasons like local conditions, device and content.

But still, at least its better than being stuck on 3G speed.

  • You're data allowances are quite off but still a good deal, grabbed another $40 starter to keep me going for a while, good to swap with these old $10 sims from optus/Coles Express :D

Why get 1x $20 Boost when 2x $10 Boost gives your more????

    • Because it's a starter pack only? If you want to use those, you have to port out and in…

      • -1

        Why?

I just want the data and calls. Don't care about the number.

Much better to buy many $10 Starter Packs than any $20 ones!

anybody know the expiry of these sim packs?

  • Are they nano only sims on the $40 1/2 price deal? The ad is a bit garbled. Edit - Oops, please ignore, clicked the wrong linky.

  • Hmm, received my $40 starter kit but incorrect version… I ordered Nano sim version but was instead given the multi sim, seriously, no one read the order details..?

    • What's the expiry my friend?

      • +1

My friend, it is on Jan 2017.

        • Actually, that is for the $40 multi-fit sims only and apparently the $20 is also around the same period, but if you to get the $40 nano sim version, they are part of the old stock and will expire on 4th Oct 2015, so only get nano if you want to use it soon but for those wanting to use it later, probably not a good deal to get nano version.

  • Has anyone ordered this already? How long did it take to arrive?

    • +1

It should be sent out from your nearest available JBs, mines sent via Toll Express.

  • I have always been a mobile post-paid customer so I don't really understand, but is it possible to use a deal like this to keep recharging your phone every month?

  • Does anyone know what this sale ends at JB Hi Fi?

    • A staff member told me he thinks it's the end of the month.
